Honestly Xenogears is a game that deserves a remake. Especially everything on the second disk. This is a game that, for all its greatness, was very very obviously not finished.
nah, they should just remaster it and then complete what was cut/scrapped in the same style so it all blends together. remaking it would take more time/money

Not only dis I play this game over and over and over for years but, I played it so much that the game disk wore out and I had to buy replacement disks. At one point, I wanted to plan for the future and bought 5 copies and put them in storage. I still play the game whenever I get the itch on my ps vita.
Well how about *Final Fantasy VIII Remake - AI Generated* looks also quite nice, if you overlook the creepy smiles that is😉😅 Fascinating what AI can do(also worrysome i guess)

I wouldn't even need the upgraded graphics, just finish the story so that these characters that I came to love would have the full closure that they deserve. Still this is gorgeous to look at and it's always nice seeing others giving this game attention. I'll keep dreaming for a rework/remake of Xenogears. Cheers to you for this!
I can only imagine the effort to put all these things to work together (3D bg, 2D sprites, minimap etc etc) and I know how much passionate Vitor is about Xenogears, that's why he could make it. Let me correct you on that. Scientifically speaking, music (ear), smell (nose), anything visual (eyes), and taste (tongue) will cause you to remember things associated with them. The brain use these senses to "attach" certain memory to certain things, for future reference or to recall easily memories. There is of course more to it than just that but to stay on topic: this is not just music, it has to do with all 5 senses. That's why some have tears when eating cookies remembering their grandma. Some have tears when hearing music because that particular music is associated with some childhood memory. And so on...

Squaresoft was really juggling between Final Fantasy 7, Chronos Cross, Legend of Mana and Xenogears back then and the last two games lost out majorly to the first two, Chronos Cross eventually got delayed in favor of FF7.
They made the Xenosaga games, but honestly I don't think they wanted to touch the original story because of the religious story parts. Japanese companies in general are very conservative, so they didn't want to ruffle any feathers. They never released this game in Europe because they feared backlash for the parts of the story that contained religious themes.
Not in bad blood stage. More like "whom are you working with now?" Another reason. Still remember Harada said higher-ups in Bandai Namco unwilling to give Xenosaga remaster solely "because it's a niche title". You can assume based on that alone why Square Enix pushing their other more known titles rather than Xenogears

Absolutely wonderful remaster, captures exactly what I want from a Gears remake. If there's one more scene I'd want to see in this style, it's gotta be Grahf's introduction.
I'd easily drop 500€ on a collector's edition of a good, faithful HD-2D remake of this game. I'm not even joking. Xenogears has remained one of the greatest games of all time for me. I know it'll never happen, and I don't even know if it makes sense without anyone of the original team at the helm, but one can dream.
Great to see so much passion of into reviving at least part of Xenogears. This is one of my all-time favourite games. I really wish it could get remastered/remade someday. Thank you for this small taste of it!

Amazing how music can trigger so many memories.. Instantly brought me back to Christmas break 1999 - I was 13 and had just got Xenogears for Xmas! I still remember chilling up in our families game room and playing this all night! I can't believe its already going on what 24-25? years since then? Insane.
I love the concept of having the world be "photorealistic" while the character models are old-school pixel art. This is the way. Edit: omg I just realized at the 0:49 mark that his shadow is 2d!!!
Sublime effort! Love that the sprite is effected bay the sun light, and that final shot gave goosebumps! If i may give a recomendation, I would preserve the original camera point of view and the angle snap so that the sprites can ben seen and animated in they original percepective.
possibly the greatest J-RPG of all Times, yes better than Ocarina of Time. Square Enix there are no excuses....even if a Remake would take 5 years, this title is inevitable there are too many Fans demanding it.

Never played a Xenogears game but I would play the hell out of something like this. As a proof of concept I love the blend of 2D pixel art with 3D environments. Crazy that it really hasn't been done before at the scale of a full sized game! Good luck to you man, hope you end up where you want to be!

At best, it can be seen as a "proof of concept" to what such a project may potentially look like if Square ever chose to release it in a way similar to Star Ocean 2 R.
Omg the soundtrack of this game always takes me back in time and gives me joy. Not sure what it is but I love this game with all my heart. Along with Valkirie Profile, Lunar Saga: The Silver Star Story Complete, Wild Arms and Chrono Chross... Pure magic
The greatest game of all time. Never got the same feeling as I got from playing Xenogears as a kid. A true masterpiece it is a huge shame Square & Mono won't collaborate just to recreate and complete the second disc. I love FF7 but Xenogears is a plateau above, regardless of the sales etc, Xenogears is definitely better.

Yeah, I would like to see a Xenogears remake in the vein they did Star Ocean second Story remake on thee current gen consoles! (Especially Switch LOL) I mean lets be real you can't SERIOUSLY change too much other then dealing with the slowdown and making the graphics better because we sure as hell can't make it like Xenosaga or Xenoblade (that would RUIN GEARS identity) but the 2D and 3D were IMPORTANT for it's identity largely cause majorly it was good at SCALE! Especially battlewise where 2D meant On-Foot enemies, 3D meant "Get in your FUCKING GEAR" with the ONLY 2D enemy I could say EVER was a threat to you in your GEAR was Grahf for "obvious reasons!" Hopefully we DON'T go too whatever 3D polygon Front Mission's Trilogy remakes have been doing! (Speaking of when we going to get a Front Mission 5 Remaster SQUARE! You OWE us US fans for STIFFING us the BEST Entry SQUARE! You still owe us for LEFT ALIVE & EVOLVED SQUARE!!!!!) But it WOULD be great to actually GET everything that was cut to turn DISC 2 content into an ACTUAL DISC 2! (As in, instead of "Tetsuya Takahashi-Sensei presents Disc 2 Story time cause we ran out of budget money" we got to go THROUGH what was TOLD to us, especially getting to ride Elly's previous life's OMNIGEAR for the short time we have with her before HAMMER RUINS EVERYTHING! Seriously still not happy Elly got DAMSEL-ED for the entire final dungeon! Better to say she got "Aerith" as every time I looked at her Rods in my inventory, it dawned on me that "Dear god, I can't use her for the final battle" After how long Disc 1 felt, something tells me Takahashi-Sensei went TOO hard on Disc 1 and realized too late how e very thing was formated meant he was out of budget and had to make that story time segment and only what TWO dungeons and two SECRET DUNGEONS before the final one! It's VERY telling he avoided this situation popping up again, especially the ELLY thing with how none of the future Xeno games separated you from the Heroine for too damn long! Xenosaga only took Shion away from you for a single battle, and well can't really SAY she counts depending on if you feel KOS-MOS is the Fei/Shulk/Rex/Noah of Xenosaga, though I feel BOTH her and Shion share the main character seat instead of her being the "Elly/Fiora/Pyra-Mythra/Mio" of the story! Xenoblade had Fiora come back right around the End potion of the Mid-game at least and she never leaves again! Pyra/Mythra leave for a single chapter and come back WITH an upgrade Super mode at that! and Mio NEVER leaves your party! Mio specifically felt like Takahashi was like "yeah sorry about the whole ELLY in the endgame of Xenogears thing, here's a Silver Haired Cat girl version of her that never leaves you LOL") and maybe INCREASE the difficulty of the enemies as you progress and get more party members and points THEIR SUPPOSE TO BE WITH YOU to add in a SWITCH system in battle cause this game gave you ALOT of characters and only THREE slots in battle! I would also LOVE for my two favorite party members to have GOTTEN their Omnigears (poor Maria and Esmeralda! Maria just got FORGOTTEN about once her part of the story was over and even her "revenge" ended at the end of Disc 1 with Solaris destruction that page ended that Disc! ) Hell why not just give you a FULL party of Four characters/GEARS-OmniGEARS in battle since MORE POWER (but yeah I almost forget how "Traditional" they get with remakes! Even Final Fantasy 8 Remake Trilogy made DAMN SURE you're stuck with three at a time because that's how it was in OG FF7! At least Rebirth gave you a FFX Battle party swap function. But Star Ocean Second Story gives me HOPE the PS1 Square games would get the same treatment! Of course it's a PIPE DREAM with Takahashi-Sensei being over at Nintendo now (though since Second Story that USE to be a PSX entry got a REMAKE on a NINTENDO console as well, same with Tactics Ogre Reborn which was ALSO a PSX AND PSP entry! and Chrono Cross and Front Mission 2 & eventual 3! Who's to say Xenogears might not! Though seeing how Takahashi felt COMFORTABLE tying in SAGA with BLADE! I think it's sad to say he knows Square will NEVER let Gears see the light of day AGAIN! Even though SAGA was made BECAUSE Square SCREWED him over in those "other episodes" for GEARS, then he had to try again with Nintendo and got VERY lucky with Blades (as much as I love GEARS and SAGA! Yeah it was for the best he FULL FINISHES the story rather then put it into parts like Star Wars! It's why all three BLADES games feel like COMPLETED STORY'S that you could IGNORE the existence of the others and see them as STAND ALONE! Even 3 despite the fact it's entire story is structured around 1 & 2 as even 2 doesn't tie into 1 till the VERY END with the reveal 1 was happening in the SAME TIME as 2! So 3 is essentially both XC1 & XC2 "sequel" rather then XC2 being the sequel LOL) and I think it's a good idea to keep it that way! Hopefully no new "Trilogies" with XC4 as everything involving Klaus and the Zohar should be finished I say! Hopefully its in a whole new WORLD since "Earth is kind of BACK" after XC3! Well that's my rant! Good Video by the way! Just got me HUNGRY for a Remake of GEARS as I'm playing Second Story R as I was skimming through youtube LOL
I was already a young adult when this game came out in 1998. I played it so much that I sorta missed work a few times! Still, 26 years later, a lifetime later, hearing that music makes me cry a little because of HOW good that game was! I still will find a track or two on YT and play it, because not only was the story so mind-bogglingy insane, for the era, the graphics and play were so much more, it was such a blend! Then like I said, the music, no PS1 game should have had music THAT good, but it did, they went hard, and all this time later it STILL goes hard and the emotion in the music is palpable. I just hope Squeenix doesn't try to squash this, even if it is never released, a video/demo of the major parts in this fashion would be an incredible journey to experience!

This game even after everything I played after is my absolute favorite. Every rpg I ever bought was because of xenogears.

Never played a Xenogears game but I would play the hell out of something like this. As a proof of concept I love the blend of 2D pixel art with 3D environments. Crazy that it really hasn't been done before at the scale of a full sized game! Good luck to you man, hope you end up where you want to be!

Naturally. It isn't meant to go anywhere. Reading the description, it clearly states this will not ever be released. It is purely for educational purposes.
At best, it can be seen as a "proof of concept" to what such a project may potentially look like if Square ever chose to release it in a way similar to Star Ocean 2 R.

Omg the soundtrack of this game always takes me back in time and gives me joy. Not sure what it is but I love this game with all my heart. Along with Valkirie Profile, Lunar Saga: The Silver Star Story Complete, Wild Arms and Chrono Chross... Pure magic

The greatest game of all time. Never got the same feeling as I got from playing Xenogears as a kid. A true masterpiece it is a huge shame Square & Mono won't collaborate just to recreate and complete the second disc. I love FF7 but Xenogears is a plateau above, regardless of the sales etc, Xenogears is definitely better.

Yeah, I would like to see a Xenogears remake in the vein they did Star Ocean second Story remake on thee current gen consoles! (Especially Switch LOL) I mean lets be real you can't SERIOUSLY change too much other then dealing with the slowdown and making the graphics better because we sure as hell can't make it like Xenosaga or Xenoblade (that would RUIN GEARS identity) but the 2D and 3D were IMPORTANT for it's identity largely cause majorly it was good at SCALE! Especially battlewise where 2D meant On-Foot enemies, 3D meant "Get in your FUCKING GEAR" with the ONLY 2D enemy I could say EVER was a threat to you in your GEAR was Grahf for "obvious reasons!" Hopefully we DON'T go too whatever 3D polygon Front Mission's Trilogy remakes have been doing! (Speaking of when we going to get a Front Mission 5 Remaster SQUARE! You OWE us US fans for STIFFING us the BEST Entry SQUARE! You still owe us for LEFT ALIVE & EVOLVED SQUARE!!!!!)
But it WOULD be great to actually GET everything that was cut to turn DISC 2 content into an ACTUAL DISC 2! (As in, instead of "Tetsuya Takahashi-Sensei presents Disc 2 Story time cause we ran out of budget money" we got to go THROUGH what was TOLD to us, especially getting to ride Elly's previous life's OMNIGEAR for the short time we have with her before HAMMER RUINS EVERYTHING! Seriously still not happy Elly got DAMSEL-ED for the entire final dungeon! Better to say she got "Aerith" as every time I looked at her Rods in my inventory, it dawned on me that "Dear god, I can't use her for the final battle" After how long Disc 1 felt, something tells me Takahashi-Sensei went TOO hard on Disc 1 and realized too late how e very thing was formated meant he was out of budget and had to make that story time segment and only what TWO dungeons and two SECRET DUNGEONS before the final one! It's VERY telling he avoided this situation popping up again, especially the ELLY thing with how none of the future Xeno games separated you from the Heroine for too damn long! Xenosaga only took Shion away from you for a single battle, and well can't really SAY she counts depending on if you feel KOS-MOS is the Fei/Shulk/Rex/Noah of Xenosaga, though I feel BOTH her and Shion share the main character seat instead of her being the "Elly/Fiora/Pyra-Mythra/Mio" of the story! Xenoblade had Fiora come back right around the End potion of the Mid-game at least and she never leaves again! Pyra/Mythra leave for a single chapter and come back WITH an upgrade Super mode at that! and Mio NEVER leaves your party! Mio specifically felt like Takahashi was like "yeah sorry about the whole ELLY in the endgame of Xenogears thing, here's a Silver Haired Cat girl version of her that never leaves you LOL") and maybe INCREASE the difficulty of the enemies as you progress and get more party members and points THEIR SUPPOSE TO BE WITH YOU to add in a SWITCH system in battle cause this game gave you ALOT of characters and only THREE slots in battle! I would also LOVE for my two favorite party members to have GOTTEN their Omnigears (poor Maria and Esmeralda! Maria just got FORGOTTEN about once her part of the story was over and even her "revenge" ended at the end of Disc 1 with Solaris destruction that page ended that Disc! )
Hell why not just give you a FULL party of Four characters/GEARS-OmniGEARS in battle since MORE POWER (but yeah I almost forget how "Traditional" they get with remakes! Even Final Fantasy 8 Remake Trilogy made DAMN SURE you're stuck with three at a time because that's how it was in OG FF7! At least Rebirth gave you a FFX Battle party swap function. But Star Ocean Second Story gives me HOPE the PS1 Square games would get the same treatment! Of course it's a PIPE DREAM with Takahashi-Sensei being over at Nintendo now (though since Second Story that USE to be a PSX entry got a REMAKE on a NINTENDO console as well, same with Tactics Ogre Reborn which was ALSO a PSX AND PSP entry! and Chrono Cross and Front Mission 2 & eventual 3! Who's to say Xenogears might not! Though seeing how Takahashi felt COMFORTABLE tying in SAGA with BLADE! I think it's sad to say he knows Square will NEVER let Gears see the light of day AGAIN! Even though SAGA was made BECAUSE Square SCREWED him over in those "other episodes" for GEARS, then he had to try again with Nintendo and got VERY lucky with Blades (as much as I love GEARS and SAGA! Yeah it was for the best he FULL FINISHES the story rather then put it into parts like Star Wars! It's why all three BLADES games feel like COMPLETED STORY'S that you could IGNORE the existence of the others and see them as STAND ALONE! Even 3 despite the fact it's entire story is structured around 1 & 2 as even 2 doesn't tie into 1 till the VERY END with the reveal 1 was happening in the SAME TIME as 2! So 3 is essentially both XC1 & XC2 "sequel" rather then XC2 being the sequel LOL) and I think it's a good idea to keep it that way! Hopefully no new "Trilogies" with XC4 as everything involving Klaus and the Zohar should be finished I say! Hopefully its in a whole new WORLD since "Earth is kind of BACK" after XC3!

I was already a young adult when this game came out in 1998. I played it so much that I sorta missed work a few times! Still, 26 years later, a lifetime later, hearing that music makes me cry a little because of HOW good that game was! I still will find a track or two on YT and play it, because not only was the story so mind-bogglingy insane, for the era, the graphics and play were so much more, it was such a blend! Then like I said, the music, no PS1 game should have had music THAT good, but it did, they went hard, and all this time later it STILL goes hard and the emotion in the music is palpable. I just hope Squeenix doesn't try to squash this, even if it is never released, a video/demo of the major parts in this fashion would be an incredible journey to experience!
