    I have recently started practicing Buddhist Ideologies and Thoesis , I must confess the more I learn about this fascinating belief system I am amazed greatly , Growing up Christian I always questioned alot of the Bible and what I was taught, but finally at age 16 ,I started reading about Buddhism and it truly is an enlightening way of life

      I wouldnt say the Christian ist that bad... There is not an Tradition that ist that Professional... If you look at the Columbo the TV detective.... That Christian spirituality... Also Galileo must have been Christian... Uta abstract thinking... Its quite an art... But there was a Break between sience and Religion... That never happened in buddhaism and hinduism... Thats the main difference.

    There should not be any debate about this. Does anybody ask for permission to feel? Or to feel devotion? Can anybody restraint anybody else's enlightment? Not possible at all. Yet, men ( in all spheres) think they have the right to decide over women's personal experiences. Buddhism Is no exception. Shakyamuni stated equality. Men in the following traditions spoiled everything. We women should stop asking for permission. That's all. No war. Just the truth. Blessings!

      You basically say ALL men are (closited) rapists. If not of the body, of the spirit.What the fuck? How is that not just as sexist as you make men out to be? You speak of equality, and "no war, just the truth". But you feel okay generalising and judging 50% of our population. Us vs them. Yet you speak of no war.

      Shakyamuni didn't allow women to be nuns originally until his friend convinced him to allow it, he thought women were "unfocused" and not equal to men in "salutations" meaning women had to bow to monks and move out of their way if they were passing them and not vice versa.

  • @moonmissy

    I visited asia and spoke with a Theravada monk about role women in Buddhism, he said: “Because the Buddha allowing nuns into the monastic order, he predicted the Dharma will be extinct 500 years earlier.”
    I replied to him: “Of course, the Buddha was such an amazing Visionary and social Revolutionary of his time. He had the foresight to see that. During his time women were nothing more than a man’s possession. They had no social status. To elevate them to the priesthood, which is highest in Indian society at that time, was unheard of. Even acknowledging women are capable of enlightenment like himself. Even after 2500 years his own students and followers within his own religion oppose to this, effectively goes against his teachings. What hope does the dharma gets to not become extinct early when people are selectively applying it based on their own delusions? The forces of delusions are powerful indeed.”
    The monk was silent.
    Majority of Asian monks are taught and believe that women are inferior and need 7 lives of good deeds to become a man. Buddha said otherwise, she can be a Enlightened person in this life. So does becoming a man more greater than becoming a Buddha?

    • @moonmissy
      @moonmissy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      cloudyyo As the Buddha taught, all is created by mind and distorted mental capacities...if you want to reinterpret the Buddha’s teachings of equality in ability to become awakened.. it’s delusion. The Vinaya allows women ordination and the Nikayas talks of women becoming Arahats while being monastic students of the Buddha. Negating of the teachings of the Buddha is pure delusions to fit distorted views one holds about the world. The Buddha’s teachings transcends cultures and patriarchy dominance. He was the first major religious founder to recognize the equality of men and women in spiritual practice. What ignorance to keep denying it!

    • @moonmissy

      Robert Raghav I studied 6 years of scriptures.. its an oral tradition for 500 years before written down so I doubt very much the veracity of transmission because it’s incongruent with others teaching of the Buddha purported to have being said. Doubt and verifying it for oneself is the Buddha’s fundamental teachings so no, I don’t believe it just because its written somewhere. People need to learn to think critically and not take everything on faith, its called being blind.

    I'm not a Buddhist. But I've learnt some things from Buddhism. Understanding that existence is suffering, that suffering stems from desire and being compassionate are some of the core beliefs of Buddhism. Buddhism works for any living being with high iq and cognitive abilities. Many women(and men) do belong to this category. Sadly not all our fellow sentient beings fall into this category. That's why we place importance on compassion. Reducing pain in the world is a task of Buddhist. I personally have adopted a plant based diet because supply=demand and I don't want to feel responsible for animal suffering

    Interesting that even the ancient societies that are respected today had the same fatal flaw as barbaric societies we don't like. For example no one wanted to live in poverty with cut throat rulers who lived happily while their subjects suffered and died of the disease. Women didn't have any say in how their husbands controlled them. Yet in ancient Greek society there was democracy and Buddhists were all nature loving enlightened beings. People think those societies would be wonderful but women still had no real control over their lives and life would still be shit for them.

    That's not accurate, Buddhism have always accepted women, the own Buddha aunt (Mahapajapati Gotami) was ordained by the Buddha, of course, it was mainly focused on men because the Buddha was a man, but he never discriminated, he teached, guided and supported all nuns, all women have the same potential as man for enlightenment, otherwise he would never accept ordanaiting them, this patriarchal and sexist view is something that developed centuries later with the growing popularity of Buddhism and its adoption by different cultures.
    For those more interested, there is the Therigatha which is a collection of poems written by nun of varies background dating back to the time of the Buddha, reinforcing the ideia that women and men are equal in the potential of spiritual development.

    • @spacecat6022
      @spacecat6022 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Buddha didn't want to have women monks. He only accepted once his disciple Ananda pleaded for the women's right to become monk and then the Buddha accepted and recognized that women could be enlightened as much as men but he only accepted to ordain them by telling the women that a woman monk, even if she was in the Order for 100 years must respect a man monk even of a day's standing as her superior, a woman monk cannot scold or advice a man monk. He really made sure that women were under men by putting those sexist rules.

    I am not speaking against this monk. But sometimes learning Buddhism which alone is over 2550 years old in different countries can confuse or give wrong information of its past. The first Buddhist female monks were ordained by the Buddha himself Gouthama. She was none other than his step mother SANGAMITTA. There were female monerstries in India and Sri Lanka thousands of years ago.
    But with time with natural disasters Wars and invasions by other religions the destruction of monasteries to Colonisation to the introduction of other faiths the female Buddhist monk population dwindled.. Again this is how it was even with the males though to a lesser extent as more males became monks than women

    People need to stop bashing Christianity for being sexist, it was a worldwide thing back then and it’s not just a religious thing either. Pagans were sexist, buddhists were it was worldwide. The Greeks weren’t however that does not make the Greeks good, because they had giant orgies. And about those nuns she talked about. In Christianity there is a lot of controversy on whether Catholicism is a cult because they follow priests after Jesus had said we don’t need priests anymore he is with all of us. So those nuns are sheep who follow the pope instead of God. The bible is actually not sexist in the first place. People like to cherry picking the quotes about woman out of the bible and male them sound sexist. For example people will say “the bible says woman shall remain silent and should let men be the leaders.” However if they don’t cherrypick and read the bible properly, they will come across the story of Debra who was a prophet, an army leader and she definitely did not keep silent.

    • @GLamoRousCooKie
      @GLamoRousCooKie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Oh please. Very afraid of women "as a group" are we? That's because the truth is painful. Not only can women reach the same level of spirituality than men, women are more spiritual by nature. And they don't need an ordained religious system to be spiritual. It's men who create these religions and then usually tie them to government and governing bodies so they have "permission" to even begin being spiritual. Religions were invented for men and originally followed - and allowed to follow, only by men. Women are naturally enlightened, they are more empathetic, caring, and more in touch with their intuition and higher self. Women don't need a religion to connect to their higher purpose. Men do. Men are more animalistic and they need religion to keep them in check. They are also more egocentric and need religion to detach from their ego, while women give life and sacrifice themselves for others their entire lives.
