    In German, the other father didn't say "her best bags" (ihre besten Taschen), but actually "her vest pocket" (ihre Westentasche). "To know something like your own vest pocket" is a common expression in German, like the English expression "to know something like the back of your hand", which you can't literally translate into German.

    Taiwan using the number four is interesting since four is considered to be connected to death. Which makes sense for story reasons

    The danish name for Wyborn has always stuck with me, because I think it was really clever. In the danish version his name is "Willifred", but when it's said in danish it sounds like "Hvil I fred" which translates directly to "rest in peace". It manages to keep it's tone and also work well as a wordplay on his name. I think it's quite cool. Anyway, I really enjoy these types of videos with the language stuff. Keep it up!👍

    Translated: She's sweet, she's as beautiful as a doll. She is beautiful like the buttons in her eyes. The quote by the dad with the bag is a german saying. It means she knows you liker her own pocket.

    Hey! Spanish-speaker here, I'd like to add some information and share corrections:
    The title of the movie is «Coraline y la puerta secreta» ("Coraline and the secret door") in Latin Spanish, and «Los mundos de Coraline» ("Coraline's worlds"/"The worlds of Coraline"; I'm not sure which one is a better translation) in Castillian Spanish.
    Wybie's name wasn't changed not because the translators were lazy. At least when it comes to Mexican dubs (and translations in general) the characters' names are kind of sacred, therefore they are very respected and they're kept 90% of the time, even if they are wordplays or have some storytelling meaning. I don't know if this is the same in Spain.
    2:37 "An interfering boy" is a very Google Translate sentence. "You nosy boy" is a more appropriate and accurate translation for «[Oye, de verdad oí que te llamaron], niño entrometido».
    5:50 Here Coraline says "What does this smell like?!" («¡¿A qué huele?!»), not "It stinks in here".
    You used the Spain flag everytime, but the dub you show here was made in Mexico, it is used in all Spanish-speaking America. There is a dub from Spain though, pretty much every movie, series or TV show has both Latin and Castillian versions when dubbed to Spanish.
    Anyway, what a good video! The quality of the visuals and every other elements is something to appreciate and I love them. I've always wanted to look on more dubs for this particular movie but I had not did anything to accomplish that until now heh, thanks for that.

  • @terra17317

    0:47 This title probably stems from the superstition within east-Asian countries (keep in mind I’m mostly basing this off Japan) that 4 or any number that includes a 4 (usually as the last digit) is correlated with death. This is because (in Japanese) “4” and “death” have the same pronunciation, “shi” (this pronunciation differs between east-Asian different countries but is generally pretty similar).

  • @princessfriendly8910
    @princessfriendly8910 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think I like the names of the movie in the other dubs rather than the english one. Some of them are quite interesting and mysterious like "The fourteenth door". All the title "Coraline" tells me is that its about someone called Coraline. That could be about anything. "Coraline in nightmare land" gives you an idea that its a film about someone called Coraline who finds another land full of scary things. Its provides more context for what the film is about so I might be more inclined to watch it. And the fourteenth door or the hidden door are more mysterious titles that make you curious to know whats so special about this door and "Coraline and the mirror secret" , what is the mirror secret? You want to know also those titles just sound like very cool names for a movie.
