I am a Mormon and we do not believe that homosexual behaviors are right HOWEVER, we also believe that everyone has a choice to do and practice what they want.
I am a Christian and I support gay marriage with all my heart. God taught us to LOVE EVERYONE! The ONE VERSE that far-right Christians point to is somewhat out-dated. See the New Testament as an "update" if you will. Plus, it doesn't explicitly lambast and condemn homosexuality, rather it condemns sodomy, AND I QUOTE: "A man must not lie with another man, as he lies with a woman, for it is an abomination."
So not only are they mis-remembering/misenterpreting the verse, that is the only thing they cite to justify their homophobic message. It's an absolute fucking disgrace.

The idea that homosexuality is a sin stems almost entirely from a single verse in Leviticus. However, Leviticus 12:6-7 strongly implies that it's a sin for a woman to give birth when it commands her to make a "sin offering" afterward. I don't see any Christians protesting outside maternity wards, so maybe that's a tacit admission that the Bible is no longer relevant in today's world.

I have found a lot of truth, and I know that within my short lifetime, I will hardly learn even half of what's beyond the physical. Picking up the bible and saying it has all the answers is easy, and that's why it seems so appealing to many, but please, don't fool yourself that it's got everything you need. It might have some hinted truth, but christianity's mission is to make people obey.
The path to the truth is long and complex, and it is not for just anyone, although everyone can walk it. The real power of the human mind is concealed, because if everyone knew it, the world would be a kingdom of havoc. However, that doesn't mean it's a bad thing, it means that humanity as a whole is selfish and if everyone used it, the chance of someone doing something colossal and destructive is too big. It's in our genes to be skeptical, and only a handful of people are open minded enough to master it. Humanity can function without it, but once you discover it, it makes everything better.

I'm a gay teen thats in the closet to my family. I'm scared to come out to my dads side of the family because they were EXTREMELY homophobic since they lived in the most christianity place in Portugal. When my uncle (on mu dads side) came out to his mum, he ended up with a broken leg. Also my dad stopped talking to him. My dad passed away last year due to cancer. However, on my mums side they are completely supportive of gays and see nothing wrong with being gay.

Sparten7F4 Just because they do not follow every sect does not inherently make them cherry pickers. Some sects simply do not believe in all the moral of the Bible (like the Old Testament in many sects). You can be a follower of something without agreeing with everything it says.
I like Katy Perry, but does that mean I have to enjoy everything she does? Of course not, point again being you can believe in/like something without 100% agreeing.
Of course you also fail to factor those christians who actually realize things had different meanings in the days certain parts of the Bible was written, such as the Leviticus passage. Again this makes her being a "cherry picker" a moot point considering 1: you d not have to 100% agree with something to believe in or follow it and 2: You fail to consider many of the possible factors.

There are some things in the Bible I don't think are accurate (ie. creationism, viewpoints towards women, etc.). All I do is love everyone as themselves and accept everyone. If my friend were a different religion, I wouldn't try to stone them; I'd just say it doesn't matter and move on.

They're born gay. Gay is not contagious. Even if it were, what's wrong with if? Is it hurting two consensual people in a relationship or anyone around them? Is it because they can't reproduce? Then what about old people and infertile people?
I'm from a Christian household, from a straight family. And I'm agnostic. I have no set religion. I believe in a higher being, or maybe more than one, but I don't agree with everything in the bible. These are my arguments against some of the most common homophobic arguments.
Why are people who hate homosexuality so obsessed with sex? Whenever they start ranting about how much they hate it and why it is wrong, it always comes down to sex. There's no mention of love, only sex. Could it be that people obsess about the things they crave the most? Love would not and could not ever harm anyone.
It's to dehumanise them, to make them 'other'. Homophobes don't want to know that gay couples love and support each other and go round the garden centre on Sundays, and they don't want anyone else to either. If you classify someone's sexual experience as faceless unemotional boning you can write them off as 'immoral', even though there are very few things that a gay couple can do that a straight one can't.
That's also why these people are against gay marriage. There are millions of gay couples who can't wait to tie the knot and start a family and a happy future together, and that goes against the self absorbed promiscuous fairy stereotype that's so convenient for the christian right.
It all started in the bible, where someone clearly mistook 'something that I find personally deeply unappealing' with 'something I should ban for all time for everybody.'.
Christianity is based on two things that I've noticed - tearing down human self-esteem, and fear.
We're taught that we're all worthless, dirty sinners, and can only find worth through Jesus. If that isn't a kick in the crotch of self-esteem, I don't know what it. The threat of hell serves both purposes. It's a pathetic tactic to provide a threat so vile, even when there's not a shred of evidence to support its existence, people are frightened into listening. It's also quite a shock to the system for kids to hear from their parents and preachers that they deserve to be burned in hell for eternity.

I've never even understood the concept of hell. Punishment is for modifying behavior. We ground kids when they don't do their chores. We put people in jail for a time when they break the law. In extreme cases, they're in for life, but when they die it's still over. Once in hell, you're just stuck for eternity, so what is the point of it? The only point I could fathom is that God is not the King of Kings, but the King of Sadism, and a really sick fucker.
I would just like to point out one thing: Christianity, in and of itself, is not based on hate and fear. Christianity is based off of the new testament of the bible, which is all about acceptance and love without judgement. Christianity as a religion is not at fault. It's stupid people that twist the words of the bible while they "preach" and those that follow them blindly that are at fault here.

But we're addressing fear and self-loathing here. In the New Testament, something worse than everything in the Old Testament put together was introduced - hell. No matter how many millions God slaughtered in the Old Testament, when they were dead that was it. In the New Testament, infinite punishment for a finite crime was put forth. We're told that we either believe in Jesus or we'll burn in hell for eternity. What part of that is love and acceptance, and how could you actually state that it isn't based on fear? Fear is the cornerstone of Christianity. I should also add that nearly ever rule in the Bible carries a death sentence as punishment. I'm just not feeling the love, particularly since there's not a whit of evidence to demonstrate any of it is even true. I can't believe parents actually teach their kids that they deserve to burn in hell as sinners unless they believe in Jesus. That would kick the legs out from anyone's self-esteem.
