@code4broke Make sure you reach the stage of "minimum viable product" first, where all or most of the base game mechanics are locked in and it's playable. Once you have that, make a copy and continue tinkering with it. And so on, and so forth. And in another few years, you'll have the next great thing, I'm sure of it. And I'll even buy it from you. 😂
I've been lethargically laying in my bed all day because I've been feeling pretty rough emotionally, but I think seeing this vid pop up in my notifications has been the boost I needed to get up
I remember the good old pre-internet times where you would buy games from a magazine called Fullgames that would give you the CD with the... guess what... full game inside. Just install and that's it. No early access, no DLC's, no microtransactions, nothing. Just the finished game. And you would have the CD, the game was yours, not some sketchy fake ownership thing. When internet came, it was even better for a while because you could download patches and if there was bugs from the not-so-finished game, they would be gone. Great times. Now we are on the verge of a third great war and the climate is collapsing
For years my autism has been starved with lesser trinkets that merely serve to remind of what could be, playing endless games with thousands of mods at a time for hours uncounted. But finally i see something that can feed my ever growing hunger forbeing a dude in a fantasy place that does stuff and figuring out random crap that i probably would have realised if i wasn't a mere mortal that is unable to comprehend the genius of things beyond mind. This project may finally give me that sutenance i forever seek, the experience of playing for 200h and getting nothing done but fucking around until i realise that i can press R to open my character screen and dront need to find a guy to rob or store employee to bother just to wear the fance new pants i got off of a corpse.
As an optional side quest, i humbly beg thee to consider adding something quite convenient compared to the more obvious and straightforward way to do something, but make it out of the way or somehow slightly outside of what people would realise to look at so that only big brain nerds who read will use it while the rest of us will suffer and the get that magical moment of "oh- well thats convenient. Would have been nice to know before i wasted my time" while fully knowing its our fault and not the games.
Oh and ive watched the dev logs, i love your project and watching you work on this genuinely brightens my day and reminds me of how life and its struggles are worth their pain and suffering in diamonds if you have something you are suffering for, whether a dream, a loved one or both.
Add elves, magic misile with cool blue color, explosion anime spell with super cool pixel art magic circle (cool means simple + few runes + glow), AND I WILL SEND YOU 200 USD no joke. And I will happily buy the game lmao.
I broke the cookie the fortune was fire, im not okay but im gonna be alright (burberrys) keep hustlin playa, cant wait until the first pre-alpha public test in 2048
Great video and great series! I like a good recap just to show the timeline and as a way to see how incremental development is. People sometimes give it the time it deserves, but even then they tend to simplify how it happens
I watched all your videos in order after I found your channel from the hating goblin video, it was nice to go over again :) Can't wait for more updates.
I think having the Ai almost act in similar fashion to races in world box would be a cool feature. Imagine villages, items, and wars all being features the ai randomly decided to do. Like if the world was alive
Really cool to see your process over the years, I'll def keep watching your updates! P.S. Whenever your game takes off and you start your company please hire me for a janitorial type job! (I have no skills ^_^)
Stan Lee said, "If you have an idea that you genuinely think is good, don't let some idiot talk you out of it" If what you’re doing is your dream than no matter the cost it’s worth it
Been watching your videos for a while now, I know this might never happen, but if you ever replace the human model from the OG British hooligan, you should make a small/rare chance for a house with one of them to spawn in or something. Idk that'd be funny and a cool reference to where you began. 🤷♂ Anyways, keep up the good work, love how it's coming along!
I'm glad you managed to find a performant solution to your world chunking. That's what broke mine when every solution I made, made me realize that 100$ is super cheap. And dont get me started on the path finding. Whats that?
Why can't you have passion for a small project? I'm a huge fan of snes jrpgs and am working on my 3rd rpgm project and still have tons of passion for it even though none of these are my dream project.
You absolutely can, I just can't stomach excluding content or features just for the sake of keeping the scope small. It's getting excited about those ideas that makes me passionate.
@@code4broke If you're cool with working on something like this for several years, then I commend your work ethic. I can't imagine putting so much time into a game and end up with very little after years. If I can't get an idea I have playable and fun within 6 months, I usually drop it and take a few weeks (sometimes months) off to reevaluate.
Was the isometric style just an artistic choice or for performance? I think keeping it just as a sprite might be harder then using 3d models, but could greatly improve performance down the line. You could have giant battles with hundred of humans/goblins that way.
You said you were inspired by Kenshi but the entire time i watched this video I was getting Myth: The Fallen Lords flashbacks the artstyle is so much like it especially the bombs and blood exploding
I think you made the right call by starting the game. Hope you get to finish it the way you want it to be done. One minor correction. Most youtubers dont say "work on something small that you dont care about". They say make something small that wont kill your interest if it fails.
It’s not about the eternal pain, the ever increasing feature creep or the decline into madness. It’s about the patreons you made (and slaughtered in your videos) along the way.
I’m new! I appreciate the recap. Two suggestions: All the personal costs you should be ailments characters can suffer. It’s only fair. Also, can I get a Whoa Bundy?
would it be possible to add a inventory menu with the character with blocks on different parts of the body to add equipment with option to remove the blocks to have a better view of the character aswell as a status menu that shows their health condition and a character model on the side with each body part in either green, yellow or red based on the amount of injuries with a + for healing/improvement and - for infections etc and maybe even adding visual body scars and tattoos
Code4Broke in 2026: I added npc modifiers to my kenshi roguelike project zomboid-like rimworld warband minecraft diablo dream game
Two non-"kenshi-like" thumbnails in a row?? This project has come so far ❤
Don't worry, I can still fit it in the title
@@code4broke As I'm watching the video I see the title update
Don't quit, you are making a legendary game.
Thanks brotha

Based and magnum opus pilled project
I know I keep commenting about how I want to touch you and stuff but this game has been coming along really nicely 👍
"3 years" but started in 2018. Truly a Code4Broke video :)

Kenshi is one of my favorite games of all time. If you could make a gritty realistic fantasy version, I would buy a beta of that instantly.

Пока я жив, я буду ждать эту игру
Thank you Czar Putin

Bud, not very often I catch a stray Desert Rose Band reference in a game dev vid, I'm subbed.
AMAZING!!! Keep grinding homie!!
I love the recap type stuff, helps someone new like me discover your project! cool stuff dude
2:06 as a kid I never knew this trick. How many hours I spent waiting for my computer to restart after my game crashed and I couldnt tab out
That's pretty slick! Definitely one of the most intriguing games I've seen in a "I'm making my own game" youtube video
Also got that advice when I started game dev. I don't think I'd be able to work on something I wasn't really into. Great video man.
Love your videos!!!
I watched all your videos in order after I found your channel from the hating goblin video, it was nice to go over again :)

The world needs more Kenshi like games. Good luck, it’s looking fresh so far
Holy hell, the difference between now and then, you are amazing brother, keep at it!

I am new here. I hope you acomplish this dream, man. You should add a stray beep to the game, it would be funny if it was a cannibal too
the legend is single-handedly saving gaming with this one

i may not live to see this game complete but watching it being made is interesting enough
I'm low key excited for this game coming out hopefully before my kids have kids lol. You've got 6-10 years sir!
One must imagine Sisyphus drunk.... or high.
always hyped to see the progress mate! lets go!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
been following this for a while and its only been getting better and better

0:48, ah, a fellow man on the spectrum, I see
Im genuinely excited for the next dwarf fortress kenshi mount and blade diablo rimworld
I love this so much. My only request. When this game comes out, PLEASE let us play as the Goblins. I'm begging.
That I can do
Seeing Eric Bugenhangen horsecocking that weight like nothing in the begining of the video gained my respect. Sub.
Very interesting video and I'm loving it so far but I had to stop and express my fear of how you say Diablo.
I'm glad you managed to find a performant solution to your world chunking. That's what broke mine when every solution I made, made me realize that 100$ is super cheap. And dont get me started on the path finding. Whats that?
Sisyphus The Broke. I shall watch you toil with interest till the day you are Sisyphus The Broken.

i want to see this game in steam early acces :))))

Me: Seeing funny videos of you suffering while making videogame
go at you're own pace man, that's what i learned...

Ah yes, shamanic game developer visions

When will you add prosthetics that make it easy to steal from prosthetic merchants?

Why didn’t the alcoholism increase the total cost? Where can I find this Free alcohol!
Honestly seeing a recap makes me more excited to see what a final product would look like.
Looking great! What would you say was the feature so far that brought you closest to the "fuck it, I quit" moment?
Definitely the chunk generation and loading
@code4broke I feel that. I did a project in unity a few years ago in college with chunked terrain and it nearly broke me too.

kenshi was 12 years in development don't give up!
ill forgive the recap video but next video better be another 6-minute-long rant about how much you hate goblins
Banger video and the games looking great, can't wait for the alien technology arc to really speed up dev time.
I'm sure this has been said before, but this project is sick. Love the vids and it's inspiring.
