This is kinda the master dex with much less steps. Which is fine. For me I like the challenge but this exists for less hard-core collectors. Everyone wins

IMPORTANT MEW DISCLAIMER: if you go for the glitch mew in virtual console keep in mind you will need to reset the save file an absurd number of times for the correct trainer ID and name yourself GF so it matches the official distribution mew from the original games. If not it will not transfer to home and unless you want your OT to be GF for everything, I'd recommend making an exception for mew if you can't get it from a pokeball plus.
I used a Japanese emerald Version with the old see map to get a new with my name on it used signs that look almost identical to the nick name

1. Mystery Gift in Gen 4, mainly Heart Gold/Soul Silver
2. Mew glitch from Virtual Console
3. Mew from Pokeball Plus
4. Mew from Gen 3 mystery gift event.

The fact that you have to jump through so many hoops for the mythicals and even then you can't fully complete the living dex without both spending tons of time and money on old games and waiting on the good grace of the pokemon company to hand out certain pokemon is why I'm personally sticking to doing my living dex in gen 5 exclusively through emulators. Through a mix of glitches, dns, and distribution cart roms, it's even possible to do an origin dex there. Maybe I'll end up doing that.
We should be able tp figure out a way to get all the gen 6 and forward mythicals at some point.
@ndbshsshbsba If you have a hacked 3ds and at least one actual gen 5 cartridge then yeah they could still be transferred to home
I started doing a similar challenge back when sword and shield came out, with an extra challenge being I want to get every alternate form and also getting everything in Pokeballs. I’ve been working on it on and off ever since. I was sort of getting burnt out after doing BdSp and Legends Arceus back to back, but I saw your original documentary back in August and it gave me a huge burst of motivation to keep going. All I have left to do now is Johto and Hoenn and then I’ll finally be done. Long live King Ricky!

This is my favorite way to play the games! (Although I think the role-play aspect of building a team and like bonding with it is the most fun part, completing pokedexes and collecting pokemon is the most rewarding part)

Wolf about a year ago I was doing the Bird Keeper Toby Pokémon Home Master Dex challenge but it was so complicated and expensive but I still have that desire to complete the Pokédex after all these years. I took a year off from playing bc I got burnt out but now I’m back into it and your videos inspired me to do your origin dex so I just wanted to say thank you. I’m going to get the DS and 3DS games out of the way first before Nintendo shuts down support then move onto the switch games

I also did an origin living dex, and it was a long journey, btw, the dns-exploit works for the gen 4 games too!
Honestly mysticals should be the only exception for using the dark arts because gamesfreak loves using timed events for some reason
I've felt bad about using my Powersaves to get a few of the mythicals I was missing, but after watching this video, I don't feel bad about it anymore.
I love it glad to see I'm not the only crazy one. iv been working on the exact dex with the extra detail of catching all non legendary in regular pokeballs also trying to complete for shinies too
Note that the Pokemon Bank app (the one needed to transfer from an to the 3ds) will not be able to download after the start of March
I've been essentially working on this project since 2019 and I'm only up to Gen V and with the looming threat of Pokemon Bank's closure I worry I might not be able to complete it in time...
Not me making 1 living dex per generation.
While I definitely respect keeping your OT the same across the board, I’m doing something a little different; naming the trainer after the version of the game they’re in. Ex: FRLF OTs are Akairo and Midori (Japanese for Red and Green), HGSS are Aurum and Argenta (Latin for Gold and Silver) and so on with a different language. My head canon is basically I’m the Pokémon Avatar and reincarnate into a new body every new game lol.
I love this, I’m thinking of doing something similar as it lets me have a little more trainer personality in each game. Although my Celebi I’m catching in Crystal will be with the trainer name Austin (My name) so I’m deciding which to do

Just binged this series as had started doing the living dex myself recently. Great series mate and love the idea around the Origin Dex. When is the next set of videos coming for your journey? I am guessing you've just taken a break - haven't seen what's been happening of late!

I'm currently starting this journey with four differences:
1. Rule 2 is appended:
The final evolutions of starters, fossils, version exclusive and trade evolutions can have different OTs. This is also because I have siblings that also played Pokémon but now dont, so I'm doing as if we traded eachother - also nice to preserve their names in this way.
2. Not only do the Pokémon have to be from the original region, they also have to come from the original game the region was introduced in - no remakes (apart from Gen 1 and 2 remakes ofc)
3. Only Pokéballs can be used.
4. You have to finish as much of the Pokédex as possible BEFORE you beat the champion.
This gives it a bit more challenge but also a bit more fun. Its also nice to see the final time in the Hall of Fame and knowing that thats how long it took you to "catch them all".
The easiest region you can complete this way is obviously Unova, as there are no duplicates like in all the other Gens. I finished that some time ago and now, I'm going to go through all the rest starting with Hoenn. It's already daunting but I know that at the end, I will have an origin dex I can look back to and be proud of.
I might do this! ive already done something similar with the legendaries and mythicals, for the mythicals i just hacked in them using wondercard files from the old events, expect the gen 4 and 8 ones, in which i used bdsp events and an old POGO quest i still had
No wayyy I follow you on tik tok because I finish my masters in teaching this year and now find you are a fellow living dex enthusiast. We must have the same neurodivergent brain.
I know I’m coming in pretty late but for most of these you only need a game from each region and a ditto, any Pokémon you get traded can be bred with ditto to get a Pokémon with your trainer id
A note is that you can catch manaphy in pla then transfer it to bdsp and breed it for a phione with a ditto to get it from sinnoh
im doing a similar living dex challenge, but doing it in each generation and only transferring up pokemon when its either impossible or unreasonably hard to get a pokemon in a given generation (looking at you gen 3)
A tip for those who have a 3ds, you can homebrew and inject those old events related to the mythicals in gen 4/5/6/7 with pksm if you want a slightly easier alternative:)

The Mew glitch in Gen 1 works to catch a Mew…but it is not transferable to pokemon bank. So if you absolutely need a Mew from Kanto…you’re gonna want that Pokeball Plus in Let’s Go
There is a glitch you can perform that tricks the game into thinking that the Gen 1 3ds vc mew is a gamefreak event mew, i was able to do that and transfer my mew to pokemon home.

So I'm curious what if i transfer lets say haunter from pokemon R/B/Y to Pokemon S/M and traded it there will the gengar still say its from kanto? Or alola?
The one requirement preventing me from doing this is the same OT. It would have taken me A LOT longer to complete, as I continued from previous owners saves. I've also used different OT names to distinguish plays of different games within a generation. I'm doing a 2022 BKT MasterDex challenge. Currently focusing on the Ghost star right now.

With the dns servers it's super easy to get the mythicals in gen 4 (except manaphy egg which you need a pokemon ranger that has never claimed the manaphy egg)
I have all the games and am currently working on a "global national dex", catching all Pokémon available in each main series game. 😁

These living dex stories are literally making me learn how to rom hack Gen 3 to be able to make a living dex with all 1k+

What do i do if i dont have pokemon bank or transfer on my current Ds etc
@Soldier627 okay thankyou, I have a few systems ranging from ds lite to the 3ds, I just never downloaded bank or transfer and only recently wanted to do an origin living dex (I've done most in newer games).

It will if you do a glitch called 8f I think to change it trainer Id to gf’s one from an event and then it will transfer out
Yep, log's is right, you can use the 8f glitch to make Mew legit. You can even manipulate it's personality values to make it shiny :)

I’ve been working on this! Only caveat being that until Gen 6 there weren’t enough characters for my name lol, so every Gen before that is the “canon” trainer name :)
You can actually still receive most event pokemon from gen 4 too, Using the fan dns connection you can download and receive those events, no cheating device required. (Dosent work for gens 6, 7,)

you actually just need one of scarlet or violet since you can go online and get version exclusive spawns in your own game. The only thing is the box cover legendary, but I've traded with someone since you get an extra in the post game. So no worries
For zarude and hoopa i use the one i've got from pkmn go cause they can have my OT
I started this in 2016 anc ompleted it in march last year, I played through every game while getting the dex of each generation

I have a problem, all of my pokemon have the OT: Cain. However, a few say “OT: Caintastro” because that is my pokemon home name and my scorbunny for example, is the home one because it has the HA and i think thats cool, and i made my pokemon home name “caintastro.” Is this still fine?
Im about to just go through the games and try to complete every living dex for that region dex.
There only two event raid walking wake and Iron Leaves

How do you get the trade evolutions tho do I need two consoles
Heads Up you can not transfer the gltched mew from gen 1 unless you duplicate the OT name and CODE of the event mew nintendo gave out in japan, however this is still not legit since people know you cant get a mew in gen 1. So the only legitamite mew that says from kanto would be the poke ball plus one. However you can buy the japanese one new and it will be an english mew if connected to an english game.
Next is the shiny dex. Then the perfect Pokédex with both genders registered on every Pokémon that can have both, all abilities and moves registered and all special forms like gmax and mega including their shinies as well! I’m getting close to the shiny dex and the perfect dex! I think I’ll have it done this year!
Especially the terra types! (Only 18 per Pokémon)
@@bidoof_ lol that would be next level cuz it’s 18 per Pokemon then 18 more for it’s shiny. Then there’s alcremie who has 63 forms by itself… yeah that many Pokemon won’t even fit into Pokemon Home lol
For the gen 4/5 ds games you could just use the dns if you have them.
You can actually get all the gen 4 mythicals in gen 4 using the void glitch, so if you really want them to come from their original game it’s 100% possible

@@lanadelphox They can indeed be transferred through, but you need a little extra setup to get the Arceus to be considered legal tho
Just so you know, getting a Mew from Gen 1 VC is impossible since you cant transfer it up with your OT. You need the Poke Ball plus or a Mew from JP Emerald (name limit is five characters).

I remember watching your original video 2 years ago. Saw this is the latest video you posted over 10 months ago. I also hate how mythical Pokémon just get tied into timed events. They should each have their own quest at the end of the story to be able to catch them. Recently the Teal Mask came out and there is a side quest to catch a Bloodmoon Ursaluna. It’s super fun and interesting and should be the standard on catching mythicals even though it is not one. Or heck, they did it in Legends Arceus. Can’t figure out why GF won’t just do that for future games.
Also, holding out hope that all GBA, DS, and 3DS games get a switch port that eliminates all these extra costs and steps.
I would like to do this, but I've recently heard about them taking away support for Pokémon Bank and Transfer for older consoles. Is that happening soon? Or is it staying functional for the 3ds?
As long as you have an account, Bank will stay open. They haven’t announced any bank closures

My kanto mons are from FR/LG, I didn’t want the gameboy color or let’s go mark on them. Plus it’s more annoying to transfer them up so it’s a bigger flex imo. I used something to unlock the island event to get that Mew
FR/LG Mew is a huge flex
that's from hoenn... you can't get island mew on fr/lg only on emerald.

Arceus and the Azure Flute is available in DPPt if you have a DSi and an android phone using a mobile hotspot. I was able to get Arceus, Shaymin, and Darkrai in Platinum using the same DNS hack that gives you the Mythicals in Gen 5
I'm doing this but instead of using the same names I'm using the cannon character names! I think that should be an alternate version. That is the living cannon dex!
Does Pokémon Home distintos between a Pokémon caught in the GBA games vs the 3DS/Switch remakes?
Bank and HOME both count the Mew Glitch as illegal and won’t let it into the Switch, so Mew does have to be the Pokéball Plus one
Not any longer if you follow the glitch to convert the trainer ID to GF and the trainer code to a specific number. Watch Austin John Plays' video on it, works perfectly to get the glitched Mew from Virtual Console Red/Blue into Home.
Origin dex starter here, where should my roselia originate from and so forth my roserades?
"My journey through all the regions" felt so real! It is exactly what I'm planning to do, with almost every game possible to me with my homebrew 3ds (aka only one version for the 3ds games due to space and ignoring Switch till I have them). It will be impossible for me to have mythicals legally, but otherwise I'm planning on playing and beating every single version of the games (with maybe after completing my living dex, completing the dex in all the versions too).
Unfortunately last time i did one was...semi legal, so for a fully legit one...I've barely started RBY.
I finished RBY awhile back! I'm just starting GSC right now. For RSE I'm using PKSav to debug the event items in so I can get the legendaries. I feel that it's semi-legit, because it's lost to time. I still go through the effort of catching it and everything so....
@Keaton yeah, i believe it's definitely valid to 'hack' the events in, if one doesn't want to catch the pokemon in a different gen or pay god knows how much money... good luck!
My own 'semi legit' turned into copying Pokémon and skipping a bunch of processes (like tree Munchlax) so I felt bad enough to never admit i have a living dex lol

I am going to attempt a living dex in home of all regional dexes in the games. I however am just gonna go with let's go games as my kanto and have meltan and melmeltal at the end of that.. Or at least I think I will.

started my living dex journey the day I saw this. Now on gen 5, not doing all.in game trades/gift pokemon (I did for gen 1 2 and 3)
I just have some questions:
1. Do I need to stay paying a subscription in pokemon home constantly (month by month or by year) in order to not lose my pokemon?
2. I must not take off the pokes once they're in pokemon home, right?
3. What to do once living dex is completed in home?
