Generation 6 was definitely the easiest generation to complete so far with the only really time consuming set of Pokemon to complete being all those regional moths...

Would you attempt a full living dex as crazy as this including even the optional forms? How far are you into your living dex?

I'm working on a living dex thats probably just as crazy. An origin mark dex, having everything that can have a pentagon, everything that can have a clover, etc. about halfway through the gameboy vc games, thankfully gba-3ds i have save files already so i wont have to start from scratch on those and those will go much faster. gotta get through the time crunch before pokemon bank closes. about 50% complete on everything all together

Me personally i didnt catch all the scatterbugs and spewpas but i DID catch all Vivillon forms. However, I used my spare 2DS as a vessel by constantly changing its region by using european and japanese console nands. It was a fun night that night trading to my main xy copy all of the vivillon patterns from my 2ds. Also I did manage to get every furfrou trim from GO by definitely totally travelling across the globe (no i didnt)

I wish I was more ordered like you are in attempting this challenge. I had nearly a complete origin living dex and you had to go and make me self conscious about them being in matching balls 😂
Don’t let that get to you! We all make different rules for our living dexes! Even for me, I’m totally fine having some of these Pokémon in cherish balls even though some can be caught in pokeballs in later games!
I have a regular Living Dex already but if I ever started a insane Living Dex + Forms it would be my life's work that I would leave to my descendants because I would never finish it in my lifetime 😂

Lol! I want to go on record as saying you are a bad influence. So, I did something similar with my Living Dex. Started last year and started cycling out all the Pokemon I had with ones from the first game they became available. I didn't do Pokeballs only though as I started trying to match colors to balls as soon as that was an option (love using Soak to catch a Blue non-water type in water centric balls easier xD) anyway, I had finished my goal late last year. But now, with time running out, I have decided to future-proof my Living Origin Dex by going on this journey AGAIN and making sure to get a male AND female (where applicable) of each pokemon so that if they add anymore cross gen evolutions later on, I will still have Gen1-Gen7 pokemon available from their Origin games without missing out. So, my Living Dex consists of Origin Dex, Shiny Dex, and Pokemon Go Dex. With soon to be an entire dex of just backup Origin just in case. Anyway, thank you for the entertaining videos and pushing me to go even further (beyond) than I had before. Also, my Shiny Living Dex recently passed 700, so I am super happy about that.

@ThedomiNATION do you feel the backup Origin Dex is going a bit far? I feel like it is, but then I look at how many cross gen evos we got just in SV and then I am like.... yeah, OCD to the maximum. I still wish that they would bring gen1-7 ports to the Switch (or even Switch 2) BUT I NEED them to give us Origin Marks for Gen 3, 4, and 5 plus make them retroactive. Might be wishful thinking but it can be done. They could even sell us the games again and I am willing to bet a large portion of the fan base would buy them when it means not being cut off from those original games/generations going forward. And don't get me started on the fact that Spinda can't be sent to/from BDSP or GO. Lol

Was there a way to tell if your eevee in gen 1 was female before sending it up? I have been stuck getting a gen 1 female eevee for a bit. Can't bring myself to do a Brock through walls again til I know if it's possible.
The same way I got bulbasaur to be female as they have the same gender ratio! You can use this site to see what stat a 0 attack eevee will have at the level you receive it! pokedream.com/games/goldsilver/stat.php

The mention of Gen 3 gave me PTSD thinking about how long it took me to transfer everything from my copy of Emerald up to Home. That grind was soul crushing with the limits they set. I got impatient and was just changing the date and using another Gen 3 game to exploit the daily reset. It would have taken a full month to do 100% legit.
Yeah it’s crazy how they tried to limit how many Pokémon you could transfer a day. At least they fixed it in HGSS which is what I mainly use for transferring!

When X and Y first came out I just did hundreds of Scatterbug for Scatterbug trades over the GTS until I got all the Vivillons. I only got like 5 with me as the OT from trades with friends but I at least got them all in Pokeballs.
That’s really impressive getting them all from GTS! Especially since the online will be shutting down in a couple weeks!
@@ThedomiNATION honestly scatterbug was the most overpowered Pokemon in X and Y as a collector because as soon as I got access to the daycare and Maison I bred and hatched thousands of Scatterbugs and traded em for more Scatterbugs. Then you hit the Maison and cashed out. Sure most of your trades would net you common patterns but you’d get plenty of rare places cause it was such a low effort trade which was also likely to be in a Pokeball cause it was so basic. And if you struck gold and got a rare pattern you could very easily trade it for legendaries. All before the second gym

Zygarde 10% is technically considered a Generation 7 Pokemon because it was introduced in Sun and Moon. Other than that, good job with your Living Dex. I have been doing a Premier Ball Living Dex, and I'm caught up as far as I can go.
You could argue that with so many Pokémon lol but you can still catch 10% zygarde from gen 6 and the way I categorize living dexes is by species and not by form as that species of Pokémon was first discovered in Kalos!

I finished my own Original Living Dex with pokeballs only around one months ago. I end up getting pokerus faster than finding a shiny xd
At the end I got a shiny clamperl from Ruby (while searching for female relicanth) and a shiny comby (while looking for white flabebe), so all good :D

Just between you and me, the person I traded with told me the vivillon was duplicated from the original event one they claimed. It would’ve been great if it wasn’t but that was the best I could do after searching for so long. But it’s a legit event vivillon just a copy of another one that’s out there somewhere…

I don't have something as crazy as an origin, pokeball only, living form dex, but I do have a nearly complete living form dex! Furfrou is one of the very few mons still missing

Funny enough the copy of Y I bought was pre owned, and had both vivillon, as well as the cherish ball torchic evolved into a Blaziken.

Quick question on the Vivillons… if you trade eggs and receive an egg from, say, a Japanese language copy, does it have the “Japanese” language mark on it or ENG mark (assuming you transferred over to English)? Hopefully that makes sense what I’m asking!
Language is separate from region! So you’ll have to get a scatterbug egg that says it’s from Japan in order for it to be an elegant pattern!
If you’re talking strictly language tags (like for Masuda method) I think it depends on who hatches it and not who bred for the egg!

I have a complete OT living form dex, except for Furfrou trims, which I'm waiting for Legends Z-A for. I also have a nearly complete shiny OT living form dex. I'm missing Furfrou trims, which I have enough shinies of to change when Legends Z-A releases, and most of the rest I'm missing are SWSH only gen 8 Pokémon and shiny G-Maxes. I have G-Maxes as separate entries in my non-shiny dex and plan to do them same for my shiny dex because if I want to use them, sometimes a G-Max is better and sometimes a D-Max is better, as well as wanting to be able to see both in games instead of just G-Maxes. I don't feel like optional forms for the Vivillon line or Mothim are necessary for either dex, nor do I feel like every single shiny Alcremie is necessary (just one of each sweet). Any other shiny I don't have hasn't been made available yet, and any other form I don't have is unboxable (for now at least). For both dexes, OT is when possible, and for the shiny dex, shiny is also when possible. Finally, I have both Vivillon events and a cherish ball dex of every legendary/mythical and shiny legendary/mythical available in events, whereas my main dexes are in non-cherish balls when possible. I'm hoping Legends Z-A has OT Pokeball Vivillon and gen 6 mythicals available, so I can separate those events from my living dex; bonus points if they can all be shiny as well.
As a sidenote, I also have unavailable shinies through gen 7 registered in bank and home because of the QR system in USUM, like both Keldeo forms, both Hoopa forms, Ash-Greninja, Pokeball Vivillon, both Magearna forms, etc.

Working through Kalos currently on my own origin form dex, personally leaving some pokemon til later gens like Keldeo, Meloetta and Vivillon fancy to have them in Pokeballs, thanks for the inspiration to redo my living dex before Bank goes down.

Legends: Z-A will likely have AZ’s Eternal Flower Floette as part of the story (the ‘A’ is designed like the Ultimate Weapon from a side profile)
That’s assuming they actually let us obtain eternal flower floette in legends ZA but if they do, it’s not a big deal to move everything over by one lol. I just did the same thing for the different mothim forms!
That’s true, yeah. I was just thinking that having a placeholder gap would make sense (but that’s just me)
Plus, given the links to AZ in the game’s title and how Eternal Flower Floette has an exclusive move (Light of Ruin), it would make sense for her to be obtainable at some point…
The only way we’ll know for sure is if ‘Light of Ruin’ gets added to HOME’s Move Pokédex
I'm doing the same challenge and basically following along. My gen 6 dex is almost complete except for the Vivillons. Can you really change the region on your 3ds without any problems? I always thought you'd lose your online access, poke bank and everything if you changed the region. So can you actually get poke bank back if you change your location back to your default?
You should be able to change your region without losing any software. I originally thought that you had to format your 3DS every time but Echo told me you can just change it in the settings. So you won’t lose anything! It would as if you just moved! However you can only have access to so many locations due to the 3DS’s region locking.

27:55 did you get an esper for each gender in case of a scatterbug/mothim situation
Espurr gender works the same as every other gender of a Pokémon meaning they aren’t separate forms! It’s like how male kirlia is capable of evolving into gallade but the gender of kirlia doesn’t make it a different form!

If you have a North American 3DS you can set your region to Saudi Arabia as I did in this video. If not you’ll have to either trade for one or hope for someone from the sandstorm locations to add you in Pokémon go then send you gifts from the locations so you can send the postcards into scarlet and violet and catch them there!

Even though I completely agree that a fancy vivillon from x and y is definitely cooler than what I'm about to say, there might be a possible that anyone who reads this could transfer a scatterbug/spewpa from x and y all the way up to scarlet and violet to evolve into a fancy pattern vivillon, although I have not tried it yet.
As I explained in the video, scatterbug and spewpa have the same forms as the vivillons. This is stored internally and causes the scatterbug/spewpa to evolve into the correctly assigned form they need to. So any scatterbug and spewpa caught from X and Y even sent into Scarlet and Violet, will always evolve into what pattern vivillon they were assigned based on the region the 3DS was set to when the save file was created when they were generated!

oh man going out and sourcing foreign consoles and carts for vivillions is crazy dedication. i did all the vivillions a similar way last year but used custom firmware to change my consoles region to get them all on one console.

I feel like after the 3ds servers go down, there'll be new fan servers similar to wiimfi, and there may be a new "dns exploit" so you might be able to get all your gen 6 mythicals to say "From Kalos" someday! Though it might require a modded 3ds, I think it'll be fairly legit when it comes to home flagging pokemon. As long as those fan servers come online before Bank also shuts down. Can't wait for Alola!
Well all my mythicals are from the original gen 6 events and I care more about those ones than having them specifically say from Kalos! The whole point of this challenge was to actually catch every Pokémon from their older generation they could be obtained from! Not necessarily the specific regions! That’s why my sylveon says it’s from Kanto!
@@ThedomiNATION Yeah, I was just saying, just in case you might want to update it and make it "More Perfect", since all the rest of your gen 6 pokemon do say "From Kalos" (aside from the fancy scatterbug/spewpa). We could possibly be expecting "Legit" (along the lines of the dns exploit) Mythicals in gens 6-7 within maybe a year or two.

the form your region is locked to
It will evolve into whatever form your region is locked to. The form is determined when the egg is received which is why I traded for the eggs of the other regions instead of trying to breed them myself. If I tried to breed them myself I would only get polar pattern

You would likely need a second system to do it on and be able to trade to a main save. That’s what I did. I had a second system I changed my region on, then traded the scatterbug to my main 3DS
Now working on Gen 8. I've decided to do everything completely except getting the extra Scatterbugs and Spewpas. I am planning to get all 126 Alcremies though, one of each form (non Gmax and Gmax both). This will take an eternity farming for all the sweets, but at least everything is obtainable in your own copies of Sword/Shield. Have fun with generation 7!
Following this challenge and the last thing I have to do for gen 6 is collect all the vivillon forms (trying to do this in X and Y over PoGo, if at all possible) -- is anyone willing to trade Vivillon eggs?
I am looking for: Elegant, Garden, Meadow, Monsoon, River, and Tundra.
I can trade Ocean or Polar, but can also change my 3DS settings to get these forms, if you're looking for them: Icy Snow, High Plains, Modern, Sun, Archipelago, Jungle, Savanna, Marine, Continental, Sandstorm.
Can't wait until you do generation 7 but now I have to go back and catch these spiupa and pupa

for inkay.. you actually dont need to take the switch out from the dock.. you can just turn your joycon/procon upside down in order to evolve inkay
Yeah I was actually gonna explain in the video that you could use the controller but between having my gyro controls turned off and having both joy cons and pro controller connected, I was having too many issues with it 😅
For the Zygarde form debate, I would personally say you would need 4 Zygarde for bonus completion. According to Bulbapedia, Zygarde with Aura Break and Zygarde with Power Construct are internally considered to be different forms from each other. Really the only difference between the Zygarde ability forms and Greninja’s ability forms is that Zygarde has an item that lets you change it.
The counter argument would be that home doesn’t list the Power Construct 50% and 10% Zygarde as separate forms from the Aura Break 10% and 50% Zygarde. So it would be weird to list battle bond greninja and own tempo rockruff as separate but not power construct zygarde. So maybe we could treat it as another optional addition but idk it seems a lot weirder than the other ones…
I'm only missing the elegant, trendy and savanna pattern, can someone help me with these? I'd only need one egg for each pattern 🙏🏼

People think that takes longer than it does I guess. Every time they add new regional variants I move everything down and it only takes like 10-15 minutes to do
@@ThedomiNATION yeah that’s fair. Would you qualify that version as Kalos region? Or would you see it as Lumiose City or whatever the new region name will be in Legends?
It doesn’t really matter region as I said in the video when I mentioned the hoopa and volcanion. I just care that they are obtained from the earliest generation of games they can be obtained from. So it would be a generation 9 floette but since that’s the earliest generation you’d be able to catch it from anyway that would be fine. As for whatever region it will be from, it’ll just be what the game says it’s from. Which is more than likely either Kalos or some other name we don’t know yet like how they called old Sinnoh, Hisui.
with new legends games. It might be possible to get a new form of the starters final evolution. So should we get an extra starters from past games?
If that’s the case I will revisit x and y. If I wanted to get extras of Pokémon in case they get new evolutions/forms, I would essentially have to catch extras of every single Pokémon!
The zygarde thing, it's more akin to the different Oricorio forms than Melloeta, there are 4 boxable forms of Zygarde just like there are 20 boxable forms of scatterbug

aura break zygarde and power construct zygarde are actually considered different forms within the game's code, and using the zygarde cube changes its form, not the ability directly
I’m now realizing that my Shiny Male Pyroar I got in my X is rare, found him randomly while looking for a Riolu 😂
That’s crazy! It took me like 40 minutes just to find a regular male litleo! Granted I got pretty unlucky with the odds but still!
I ended up region changing my Japanese 2DS to get the European Vermillion. Since it was running custom firmware, I was at least able to still use my NA copy of X/Y and didn’t need to hunt down another cartridge.
Fourth playthough of black and white has been killing me. Hopefully catch up to Gen 6 by the time the Gen 7 video is up.
Good luck! Playing through those games 4 times was tough but at least they were very linear pokemon games to play through with barely any backtracking!

I am doing a similar challenge, Bird Keeper Toby's Master Dex Challenge, and I have been stalled out on Generation 3 but have made progress in Gens 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. I do need to go over my progress exactlt, but I do know I have every Vivillon form available including the event distributions because I was a very active XY player.

@@ThedomiNATION Think of it was your Origin Dex with additional challenges from every game you can connect to the mainline series. There are optional stars for so many different things.

Pokémon got gender variants in later generations, so I think the best thing we could do to be prepared is to catch both genders of all the Pokémon that have gender forms, not just variants. Eevee for example got a gender variant with the Let's Go releases in 2018 if I'm not mistaken.
Eevee is the only example of a Pokémon getting a new gender difference post gen 4. They also don’t really do gender differences anymore so it’s unlikely they would add more for later generations of already existing Pokémon

But what if they bring out more gender variants after Bank closes? Then we can't get back to the old games to get the Pokémon from as far back as possible.
feel bad you’ve gone through six gens and no shinys along this journey, currently doing my own living dex from their home regions and found 2(3) shiny pokemon and pokerus in emerald
Every stream I do so many people are like “I found x amount of shinies doing this same challenge!” Or what I got a bunch for this gen was “I found a random shiny where you’re at right now when I was completing gen 6!”
Hopefully I can find something in gen 7 I would love to get one before gen 9 comes around 😭😭
I am about to finish my gen 1 origin form dex. Just making my way through Legends Arceus for H-Growlithe line and H-Voltorb line. Then on to Gen 2!
Trying to get this dex before the 3DS servers shuts down is most likely not happening. Hopefully we can still use the WiFi exploit for Gen IV and V, otherwise I’ll be forced to catch them in later games. Also, no copy of Pokémon Ranger to get that special manaphy so probably just catching that one in Legends Arceus as well. Have to accept that I can’t catch every Pokémon from those games. Still debating on the Pomeg glitch for Deoxys in Gen III, but not looking forward to beating the game 4 times to do so.
Really just sucks these Pokémon aren’t just naturally obtainable in their original games. Only thing we can hope for at this point is all these games being released on Switch 2 as virtual releases, and unlocking mythical events like virtual Crystal did for Celebi.
I really hope they do the virtual console release like with celebi in Crystal! As for the dns exploit, that will for sure work after the online gets shut down for the 3DS! Those exploits are for the DS whose online shut down so many years ago! The way it works is Nintendo simply shuts down their servers, they can’t hack into our systems and disable wifi for them! So the fan made servers that the dns exploit uses will still be up and you’ll still be able to connect to them! There’s even a chance that there will be a dns exploit for the gen 6 and 7 events once the online shuts down!
As for manaphy I think you can get a manaphy egg from the gen 4 dns exploit! So you could still get it from gen 4!

Hold back would be a great move instead of false swipe
Hold back performs exactly the same as false swipe. On top of that, it’s an event exclusive move that only 7 Pokémon have ever been able to learn in the entire series

The markings work great! And it would break the consistency of having none of the Pokémon nicknamed if only the scatterbug line was nicknamed!

Also if you want to do 150% I would say you should make 4 zygarde. At least that's what I did make for mine 2 as 50% and 2 as 10%. While one if each has the ability that makes it be a 100% form
Did the same for darmanitian I think is the English name? The fire gen 5 ape since it's the same case as Greninja I would say
So I got a few comments on zygarde and event though you can change the ability with the zygarde cube, according o Bulbapedia, internally, it is considered a separate form. So you’re essentially changing the form with the cube. I would classify it as a non required form like the scatterbug/spewpa and mothim. So I’ll probably go and catch a couple more when I make the gen 7 living Dex video.
As for darmanitan. Zen mode is only a temporary battle form like a mega evolution and the ability that allows it to change does not consider it to be a separate form. As you can simply use an ability patch for that ability change! So having two of each darmanitan wouldn’t really count the same way.
And for furfrou, I guarantee the different forms will be boxable once legends ZA comes out! This is because the pc issue reverting the forms was fixed in gen 7 but bank still had the issue. Home doesn’t have the issue as you can bring in the separate forms from GO without them reverting! So unless they for some reason reintroduce the pc issue that gen 6 had, we should be good!
@@ThedomiNATION yeah that's what I meant I hoping that they don't bring back that PC issue because I rather want mine to be from XY instead of home especially since I try to get all of them as shiny as well meaning I need 18 from go and the shiny is so hard to get with a trim from go 🥲

I would try to look around online on Twitter or Reddit or other sites and see if you can find people to trade eggs with before the online shuts down! Either that or use the Pokémon go postcards for SV
It's sad that Pokémon like Spikey-eared Pichu and Eternal Flower Floette are stuck in old games and can't be traded. I hope that we at least get Eternal Floette considering the new Legends game literally has AZ's name in it (I know it's technically Z-A not A-Z but it's still interesting)

I might do it in the Region of origin so all the Pokémon in the hisui Dex will be caught In hisui or everything in the sinnoh platinum Dex will be caught in Sinnoh or hisui

I’d recommend grabbing a spare Xerneas, Yveltal and Zygarde from XY in case the give new forms in Legends ZA and we lose bank connectivity before ZA to HOME connectivity is released
That would makes sense, but on the other hand if I want to get extras in case they add new forms or evolutions, I would have to catch extras of every Pokémon just to be safe 😭

This Is a sub category of a living dex, a forme dex. (Catch every forme of every pokemon) the normal living dex only requires every individual species so you won't need both a female and male venasaur for example. If you want to start a living dex I would definitely suggest just doing a normal one instead of a forme.
