Dream Team is back. Like peanut butter and jelly sammitch. Like beans and rice. Like Simon & Garfunkel. Anna & Nik on a tennis court. Great to see you two again.
I saw Anna makes a great progress comparing last year. Her swing is much more fluent than before and stronger, but still need to accelerate the racquet more once the racquet is dropped to hit the ball. Good luck, sweet Anna!
1:23 I switched myself to a Semi-Western grip after using Eastern for 4 months or so. Felt weird at the beginning, now I automatically grip the racquet Semi-Western without thinking about it. I find that tennis is a lot like riding a bike. Some movements seem impossible at first, yet become completely natural over time.
I never thought Nick could get spanked by any youtube tennis player...and then comes Anna and does it literally. I was falling off my chair when I saw this. Loved it. Cheers to Anna! Missed the Nick and Anna videos! Another great video Nick! MM
Let's just pray that no redpill men come on here complaining about double standards. If any MGTOW or redpill guys see this- they will have Anna prosecuted and imprisoned for 10yrs+.
Thanks Nick again, I tried to switch from E to SW yesterday, and the forehand was a lot easier, more powerful and precise, and the best thing is my arm doesn't feel tired anymore.
I actually think her FHs at 2:12 are the best she hits (and miles better than she was 6 months ago). She opens her hips, accelerates and finishes weight forward. And she's accelerating her racket through the finish. She has so much tension in her swing in so much of the rest of the video, like she's trying to steer the ball.
Hi, always enjoyable to watch Anna learn and progress, but please don't try to be perfect; be yourself and try your best to achieve the goals that Nick set for you. As your Coach, Nick said, stay in tense to put the ball in the right place. Keep up progressing Anna.
I hit with eastern, once I tried semi and I liked the balls, but was wired and I had the feeling that my wrist was not at the right position! I continue with eastern like Roger the great and pistol Pit!!!💪💪✌️
had to switch from eastern to semi western because eastern put too much stress on my wrist. my flat shots aren't as powerful but it's been very consistent with topspin
Anna gets good inspiration from Nick. She is moving well but little hunched & needs to relax more on her hand & take back. She is very keen & is improving fast.
You are a great coach Nick. I love watching these because I dream of teaching a student like Anna. She is really dedicated and making great progress each time, great job. Only thing I would do a little different is not teach a concept like this quite so early, would wait until she is hitting hard and accurate returns first, it's just easier then. Also a backboard for extra practice and to get to that point quicker. Looks like so much fun, love it. 🙂
I just taught myself (with the help of TH-cam!) and switched to a semi-western forehand yesterday, and immediately I found that I was hitting much harder with a larger percentage of balls not landing long. Many balls were wedging themselves into the far fence. I also found I was able to aim better, whether cross-court or down the line. Definitely everyone is different, but I’m glad I didn’t wait much longer to incorporate this grip!
Nice simple with the necessary details as always ❤ If you may make full western as i think gives the most deadly forehand like fritz and see the Last match of the young Shang Juncheng vs Mc Donald
I can’t hit SW. I grew up playing tennis since at the age of 4. Been playing E my whole life feels natural to me like the ball is hitting off of my hand. The problem with that is the touch is awesome and power/drive is there, but adding topspin is a little harder compared to SW. Swing is so much smoother and relaxed too.
I am planning the opposite. I am in big trouble with my western grip forehand. I just can't find a way to get it more constant. Is so hard to hit the ball on time and in the lower part of the ball because if you don't do this perfectly then the ball just goes straight to the net. What can I do?
I have switched from E to SW recently. It felt weird for a couple of weeks then I wondered why I'd waited so long. SW has instantly improved my FH with the extra baked-in spin. No downside either, on low(ish) balls I just use a reverse finish. The extra bonus for me is being able to use the same grip on both the FH and OHBH. Especially handy on returns of serve.
Yeah, unless you are really good with it and have the best technique in the world, you're just always at a disadvantage playing Eastern, best decision I ever made in tennis
The loopy back swing feels cumbersome. What about a Jack Sock style back swing where the wrist is more neutral instead of extended so that the back swing can be less loopy?
Alternate title: Anna spanking me and telling her she's getting a little funky again 😂 ---- I was doubting my semi western grip, this definitely made me happy to stick with it,, never really thought about elbow health! Thank you for this video!
Nikola, you said you "didn't want to overload," but I cannot understand why anyone would teach someone from ground zero grips that have a very low upside (eastern grip). Same thing goes for teaching someone a closed-stance forehand. There's a thing called "primacy" when it comes to learning, which states one tends to revert back to the original way they learned, and also the difficulty of relearning something. In the case of grips, from eastern to semi-wester, from incorrect to correct (from the perspective of having the highest potential for a powerful, accurate forehand).
@@IntuitiveTennis Except no good players use an eastern forehand grip these days and most players primarily don't hit forehands with an open stance. There's nothing wrong with either, except a good case can be made that they both have relatively low ceilings for potential.
I've started playing tennis 6 months ago and my coach taught me forehand on continental grip. Is it a good idea to switch for semi-western grip or will I struggle much? 😄
Bro, you should definitely switch. You’ll get more topspin and consistency. If you can’t get comfortable with it you could also go to a eastern forehand.
Mussel memory you got to hit thousands and thousands of forehands. So there you have the answer you got to practice the way you want to play. You got to put the time in if you want to win. Watching a TH-cam video is nice but you actually have to spend the time on court every day week after week. You can not hit once a week and expect results.
She's a bit mesmerising but once I regain composure I really gain a lot from these videos - thanks. I need to change my grip, I need to additional topspin as Im hitting way too flat and sending too many balls long
