This is a superb video lesson for OHBH. One of the best tips is the idea of imparting more topspin if your drive BH is “off”, but without trying to guide the ball. That always helps you to get the BH back on track.
Would be even better if Safin had match recording of before he started training with you and match recordings of post training to see the improvements. :).
Such a great lesson. Safin’s follow through question is exactly the one I’ve had. I heard a coach somewhere say it stresses the wrist if you ‘stop early,’ but I hit mine that way and have never noticed any problem. I totally get what coach means when he says trust the shot though. When I trust, my wrist stays looser on the finish and I get more topspin.
Very nice work on Safin's backhand Nik!! 👍👏🎾 I really like his technique, and his variety of shots are coming along just fine! I was able to get some valuable information also. Keep up the great work gentlemen. 🎾🎾
Hello Nikola very good tips on variation. He uses a lot of flat backhand as you showed him which looks fantastic but by training topspin balls he will add variation to his game
Great video Nick! I seem to struggle on those on the run backhands and end up making a lot of errors on that shot. Any tips or upcoming vids on that would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Nick! Do you have any tricks for how to make sure the elbow doesn't lead when you hit the shot? I've used the shot for a while but lead with the elbow a couple times and had some serious tennis elbow which makes me anxious every time I go out. Would appreciate any pointers you have!
why is it so hard to find a coach like this that works with you on the same side of the net? Every single coach i've ever had doesnt leave the baseline on the other side of the net. All they do is hit balls, make a few comments, and get their pay day.
Just a thought, but throughout this series you've been encouraging him to rip his strokes more, to be more aggressive with the stroke...I don't think I've heard Safin grunt once...I wonder...is his racquet too heavy? I mean, you're an experienced collegiate player and you use a relatively light Pure Drive. Safin, I'm pretty sure, is using the tuxedo pro staff...Is it the 12oz version?
His backhand is certainly D1 caliber. His serve and forehand however is not up there yet. But the biggest problem is his footwork which can’t be improved in short term. I think his best approach should be focus on the serve and serve + 1. Safin is tall and could do a much better serve in your way. High percentage 105+ mph 1st serve might be his only chance to D1. I believe it is possible with you being the coach since you have a great serve with simple mechanics. Great lesson by the way!
Hi Nikola, thank you so much for helping us improve our tennis skills with this masterpiece one hand Backhand tennis coaching video, allows please me say I am intermediate tennis player, one hand Backhand, I was thinking if you can make a video how to hit using the same grip for both forehand and backhand like ATP Pro player Nicolas Almagro please? I am thinking to switch to this technique as when I switch grip 180deg for backhand grip from forehand I usually get wrong position, ball go long, plus wrist unstable position don't help as well so would be great to see how to do it,pros and cons please, 🙏 love your Intuitive Tennis channel, thanks in advance,Ad
I don’t recommend. Berasategui and Kohlschreiber are the only ones I know of that used same grip for FH and BH with western/hawaiian FH grips. Close to impossible to pull off.
@@IntuitiveTennis Thanks a lot Nikola, really appreciate it your help, I tried to hit with same grip FH one hand Backhand, I can square better racket at contact, when I hit I feel wrist firm, motorcycle grip, knuckles side 1, also have a bit time to hit as grip is ready, only problem is forehand, racket stay close but still can hit a top spin high over net shot, what should I do Nikola? I feel positive the change but you don't recommend, I don't know what to do..
@@IntuitiveTennis thanks a lot Nikola again, any chance to send you a video? If yes how and well much do you charge for the coaching video review 🎾? Regards🙂
For Safin that uses a forehand and a one-handed backhand do you recommend any wrist strengthening technique for his wrist or his arm? I would assume just using the right arm it would tire. Or from using it over time it gets stronger won’t need any strengthening
Is it true that when one got high ball it tends to be hit back also relatively high? I always struggle to hit those kind of balls lower over the net and the rallies become so much pain in the ass because of that! xD
I think this is natural. How else would you create depth in these defensive balls. I think the trick is to play a few of these high spin balls, and when you get a good deep one, run around the backhand and attack on the next shot - or, if the opponent doesn’t create much pace, try to attack his ball as a swing volley, because else you will be playing moonballs forever.
@@supermuskelmann8557 yeah, I definitely don't want to moonball forever! but it happens on forehand too, I even think that it's more frequent on FH than BH. The other problem is that all courts that I play on are very limited behind the base line so I can't even back up as much as I want to LOL
@@golllaur if you can’t back it up you can try to take it on the rise that’s another option but you have to time it wisely and be good at it. That’s what I do if I know I don’t have time for the ball to drop in my hitting zone I take it once it bounces up to my hitting zone and the opponent freaks out lol but it’s really hard and depends on the situation
@@hafadaze9046 yeah sometimes I'm able to hit it back right after it bounces near the baseline and with a full swing LOL )) I can't do a reflective type of half valley though.. you know like placing the racket exactly behind the bounce spot? but then I have to be right at the baseline - if I'm 1-2 meters away it doesn't work so I have to hit the ball relatively high already

You need to find a new coach! If they aren't doing what you want and need, move on to the next, until you find a good match!
