Trivia: The Beast Wars and Beast Machines toys existed first, not the TV shows. In the Beast Wars and Beast Machines toylines, the Autobots became Maximals and the Decepticons became Predacons and Vehicons. And in the Beast Wars and Beast Machines TV shows, the Maximals were the descendants of the Autobots and the Predacons and Vehicons were the descendants of the Decepticons. For examples, in the Beast Wars and Beast Machines toylines, Optimus Primal was originally Optimus Prime and Predacon/Vehicon Megatron was originally Decepticon Megatron. And in the Beast Wars and Beast Machines TV shows, Optimus Primal is the descendant of Optimus Prime and Predacon/Vehicon Megatron is the descendant of Decepticon Megatron.
I'm not going to name reviewers that I think you're better than, because for me, that's childish. However I will say, you along with the other reviewers within the Cool Table Network and Transformers & Such are my favorites and in my opinion... The best! The others to me sugar coat and say what they think people want to hear. You guys tell it like it is, if it sucks you say so. More than any other reviewers, you all have helped me make the best decisions and have saved me thousands. For that Mr. Bobby Skullface, I thank you all. Another fantastic and solid review!
Yeah, you’re _by far_ the best toy reviewer in the YT ecosystem. You’d win based on the refinement of your on-screen persona alone. Then you back that up with nuanced commentary and a good balance of objective and subjective criticisms while always being sure to note the difference between the former and the latter. the designer of this line is out of this world, i know its not the most popular line, but the work here is phenomenal, cat faces , bot faces, 100%accurate in bot, 80% in chetta, butterfly joints, toe pivot,wrist hinge,if it had an abb crunch it could mats the figuarts articulation lol ,unfortunate paint chipping but, TONS of paint,this is a real masterpiece, kudos to the team that did this, im completely blown away... and their dinobot???? oh my god this line gets from best to bester!!!! we dont even get a waist swivel with mp-11 mac!!!!!

The characters were in beast mode a lot in the show because the Energon levels on the planet hurt their robot modes. The majority of every episode they were in beast mode so having the cartoon accurate model for at least the face is as important as the robot mode. Great review dude, (You could even say it was Purrrfect) I saw that thread in the Café and you are number one to me. I've jumped from reviewer to reviewer and you are the only one I ENJOY watching.

That's a very interesting question about beast modes; I imagine responses would be all over the map. I can already think of a few people who would be overjoyed at the thought of Dinobot and Megatron looking like real dinosaurs..For me, there's just too much character in those faces to give up. A more realistic cheetah head (or even a less cartoony stylization) might look great on a shelf, but he just wouldn't be the same goofy a-hole to me.

Goofy legs on the back are indeed show accurate, even the pointed pieces that come up behind the head are. Hate the pipes eyes though, Primal's were painted. Glad you got ahold of this one.

Love the positive attitude, Bobby! Being critical of a toy doesn't mean it has to be a negative thing. It lets us learn more about the toy and what we should be expecting with the money we paid. Your reviews have grown from strength to strength. Great job.

Realistic or cartoon accurate, it is hard to make a robot turn into an animal like a Cheetah. I agree that the cat mode could've been a bit more cohesive and lock together better, but overall, it's pretty good. It's also a lot better than any other previous version of this character. He's a cool cat, just like Mr. Skullface. Nice review.
I found out the hands can unpeg at the wrist like Marvel Legends so if a and becomes a pain to grasp the gun handle try pulling the hand off. And for the tail gun I unpeg the tail from the underside until I get him to hold it then plug it back into the yellow handle.

I personally, as a Beast Wars fan, prefer the cartoon accurate look for the cheetah. Does it look dumb, yes, does it look graceful, no, but that was Beast Wars. Plus I think it's safe to say they phoned in the animal modes on Optimus Primal, Cheetor and all future Beast Wars MPs because we should all know the main show is the robot mode and it's the mode everyone will display the most. Not to mention the fact you are taking an organic shaped animal and turning it into a robot. Granted they are robots essentially wearing their alt-mode as padding. As for the MP bots that turn into cars and such. I believe in some instances like MP-10 the right choice is to go screen accurate with some real world touches. The MPs that are based on real world cars I would say are okay having real world car alt-modes. Like Prowl and Jazz are clearly a Fairlady Z and a Porsche, while you have Bumblebee being sort of loosely based on a VW Beetle in my opinion. You could really make the argument that Bumblebee is a VW Beetle just as easily as you could that he isn't. But at the end of the day I believe what counts is whether or not the choice to make the alt-mode based off a real world vehicle/whatever detracts from the aesthetics of the robot mode. Because as an MP you want both modes to look good right? I don't feel the MP cars loose anything in bot mode from being real world cars, but bumblebee kinda does a bit, which is where I would have said screen accurate would have been the better choice to satisfy both modes. To conclude this long winded opinion of mine, I believe the robot mode should take priority and if being slavish to a real would car mode affects the look or the transformation that drastically, then going screen accurate with some real world touches is the better option.

They really should have used the gold paint on the head crest and painted the eyes. Would have looked much more vibrant.
Be it G1 or BW, Takara's direction is now more towards show accuracy in the expense of realism. And given how well sales are going, fans seem to be supportive of this approach. 3rd party offerings seem to fit more for the bill of highly detailed realistic stylized design preferences

I'm not a huge BW fan, but the pre-production photo's made him just interesting enough for me and so I picked him up. The whiskers are an issue in bot mode as they get bent in all directions and eventually they will break. Overall I really like this cat. The loose 'ab' crunch in cheater mode is a bit of an issue and one which could have easily been avoided by a simple re-design of the 'tail gun' allowing the side flaps to tab into the back locking the two halves solidly together.

I think they will do a Toy accurate Cheetor, because they did it for Primal and basically it would be the same mold as Tigertron (which will happen for sure).

On the Subject of making Beast Wars figures more animal accurate, I wouldn't mind seeing that from Takara so long as it was part of a different line of Beast Wars figures. I'm a personal fan of what Takara is doing with the current Beasties with making them as close to accurate to the animation because that has a very important place in my childhood. Granted, I don't actually collect BW transformers but I'm just glad that Takara is making these guys with the the level of detail they deserve.
TL:DR
If Takara had a separate line for realistic Beast Wars I'd like to see that but for now I'm quite happy with my crappy CGI model transformers come to life.

I'm the dude that made the initial post in the Cafe and I can assure that it was 100% genuine. I'm a huge Beast Wars fan, not too big on G1 stuff but you're so articulate and meticulous in your reviews that I find myself watching every one just to keep in the know for friends that do collect those other figures. You've quickly become my top reviewer choice because of how detailed your reviews go and how objective you are. It's refreshing compared to those who do get free figures or samples from companies and talk them up as a part of getting said free figure.

Hey Skullface, great review! I bought this guy and while I don't regret buying, I don't feel great about it either. Its the cat mode, it feels half-assed. I'm a whole ass or not at all kinda guy! I dunno, your right though, bot mode nails it so maybe it'll grow on me.

The thing is, a BW alt mode's accuracy to the cartoon is a different ballgame than a G1 alt mode. In BW, they spent half the time in alt mode, emoting and being their characters. That wonky cartoon animal face IS their face, so to make that inaccurate wouldn't float the character.

It's funny that there's a handful of reviews of this that say the cheetah mode looks like it "stepped right outta the show". NO IT DOESNT!!! What the heck were they on watching Beast Wars. The CG cheated like a mofo when it came to Cheetor, Dinobot and Rattrap. That's why I personally think MP Beast Wars, beyond Primal, is a terrible idea. Cheetor was a stretch and the Cheetah mode suffers for it and Dinobot will be no better, if not worse. Now I'm not a Beast Wars hater, in fact I love the TV series, it's the best written Transformers fiction to date. There's just no way to do those CG models in toy form justice.
Good video! Not a huge fan of BW myself but I've been quite impressed by these first two MPs; I'm interested to see what Dinobot looks like. Also, Bobby have you ever considered uploading the instrumental to Solid Unit? I'm sure you've been asked before but I thought I'd ask too. I can't get enough of the beat!

i grew up watching beast wars and i loved it but i really wish takara would focus efforts on doing as many of the original g1 bots. as much as I appreciate this effort on this guy, want moar car bots yo. personal feelings aside I think this is a very good rendition of the character. I always though the model in the show was a little off, and I think they nailed the look of it.

Other then the back legs and the cut on the back in beast mode this Transformer is incredibly well done, both in bot mode and beast mode it seems like it popped out of the screen directly into your hands. We need to understand that transforming an organic animal into a mechanical robot, engineering wise, is a very hard thing to do, I'm not saying that from car or weapon into a robot it's easy but ultimately it's mechanical into organic against mechanical into mechanical. I agree that the the biggest (not to say the only) issues become apparent in beast mode but most ppl will just display him in bot mode so if we have to sacrifice something let it be in beast mode. I bought this TF Beast War Masterpiece and I love it, it's one of those rare cases when if there's a company that is able to do it better I wont be bothered by it I will just buy another and probably keep both. Thank you for a great review and let me congratulate you on the skits, I've been watching a lot of your reviews and the skits are great, again thank you.

I ask because 10th Anniversary Megatron already seems to be a VERY good representation of Beast Wars Megatron, so an MP BW Megatron will have to be something really different or unique to stand out from the 10th Anniversary one.

Great Review. My Cheetor was tight as well, so I'm worried about the paint chipping as well. This is definitely more "toon" accurate in my opinion.

I think that while MP primal and cheetor are overall excellent figures I only see them as slightly higher than the recent generation versions of Waspinator, Rhinox, and Ratrap which aesthetically and transformation-wise are not much more complex. I just recently acquired off of TFW2005 a 10th anniversary Optimus Primal that minus lower articulation and not as accurate look or transformation looks just as good as mp primal in botmode. In regards to cheetor, I feel like changing the beast mode takes away the charm of the character. This toy overall screams cheetor in a way that a real cheetah can't imo. great review as always Skullface!

Good review. Agree that this is a bit lacking in beast mode. I feel Primal was similar, though not as bad. For me, it misses one of the requirements of Masterpiece that is very rarely discussed - it should be a "Master" piece. Traditionally a Masterpiece (or Master's Piece) was something that a tradesman produced to prove they were skilled enough to be considered a Master in the field. It should be the best they can possibly do. I feel that a lot of the G1 MP stuff hit's that mark - they look like a damn near perfect representation and I can easily accept that it's "as good as it gets" (or close enough to that). Sure, there may be a better Optimus than MP-10 at some point, but the improvements are probably going to be pretty minor and delving into the realm of nitpickery or individual preference..
I don't feel the same level of design brilliance and mastery with these Beast Wars MP's. I honestly feel that given another few years of design development, material development and general maturity on the thought process, a better version of this could be produced. It's a good Journeyman effort but I'm not sure it qualifies as a Master Piece. Clean up that kibble, fix up all the gaps and lines and bot parts hanging off the back and this could be worthy of a Mastery.
I'm keen to see some of the 3P's come into the Beast Wars arena and start throwing some alternative ideas and designs around, shake things up a bit? They often come at things in a new and unique way and come up with stuff Takara hadn't thought of.

In Beast War's defense, they have a much harder task in front of them. Cars to Robots is much easier than Animals to Robots. They have to use the same pieces and have them proportioned for different body parts on different anatomical frames. The kibble on the robot back is supposed to be there. that was handled perfectly. I think you are being a bit harsh on your "Masterpiece" qualification given that this is the first time anything like this has been attempted. Drawing an analog to MP-1, it came out with full intention of being a show accurate representation of the character, and was classified as a masterpiece. Along comes MP-10 and is outright better. I dont think comparing G1 to Beast Wars is a fair comparison. Apples to Oranges. Both are fruit, both are about the same size, shape and cost, but are fundamentally different.
Andres Lugo I do recognise that and in a sense agree with it. It's actually kind of my point. MP-1/4 was an outlier, created for the anniversary and was definitely the first of its kind. I don't really think of it as Masterpiece. Sure it's in the MP line technically but it's been surpassed but MP-10. When you talk about the Masterpiece Optimus, most will automatically think MP-10. Likewise, does anyone think MP-5 counts as an actual masterpiece, aside from the name? It fails to meet that "best of the best" criteria of what an actual Master tradesman' work should be. BW MP are absolutely better than MP-5, but they're kind of in the MP-1 territory. Takara and 3P could absolutely do better. But the big thing amongst Takara fan boys is to glorify every official MP and gloss over flaws. I like the official MP stuff. I'll enjoy Cheetor but it could be improved (I lack the skill or knowledge to do so, but I'm sure other designers could) Likewise I think MP-36 is the best Megatron yet but he's not perfect. Paint chips are a problem. Bobble heads just a little large, adult diapers pulled a little too high, feet a little too narrow. He's the best so far, but could better. Substantially better. MP-10 could be improved but the improvements are minor detailing. Cheetor, Primal, Megs - the improvements could and should be more substantial. Guess what I'm saying is " Great job, for now. Look forward to seeing them get even better as time and techniques improve" I get that's not a popular opinion but it's how I personally feel
Starganderfish okay, thats fair. im only very recently enjoying Masterpiece transformers so i wasnt paying attention to the earlier ones. i started with beast wars so im used to robot kibble hanging off animals and i forgive it. especially when they can produce something so show accurate even when the show itself cheats. i see your point tho
do u think Takara don't make the rest of season 1-4 characters cuz they feel 3rd party is doing that for them?
i think they will stick to characters that make fiscal sense. So we'll probably see a BW megs and a Car Robots Prime before we see a MP Runamuch and runabout, for example

Both modes suffer a lot for the sake of making a robot into a cheetah and vice versa. I'm almost thinking a set of hypothetical MP action figures would be better here for the sake of having an accurate cheetah and robot mode. They did the best they could.

5:20 That is cynical to a fault seeing how much work went into Primal's paint job and it still looks good for a fan of the show. I love you man, but this is one of the few examples where you failed to account for your bias. (Never seen Beast Wars)
