Sombra's weapon was terror and as the episodes show the thing most people fear is other people. Being turned away was Twilight and Spike's greatest fears as an example. There are real world examples of incredibly powerful rulers ruling through such dark means, literally pitting the people beneath them against each other, everyone too terrified of each other to finally turn on the man who has enslaved them (Joseph Stalin is one such example.) The only counter to this is the power of love. Love is this strange power, it's not just liking someone else but having faith in them against all the odds. To trust implicitly without reservations that the other person would never turn on you and never betray you. The exact opposite of Sombra's power. The shadow ponies and Sombra, dark king of shadows are kept at bay with a yearly positive affirmation of communal love, "platonic love." There's no other pony who could, or should have ruled over the Crystal Empire other than the princess of love. It had to be Cadance. Just like it took Twilight, the princess of mystery, magic, bonds and friendship but literally the twilight to take the place of both the Princesses of the Sun and the Moon. Twilight literally bridged the gap between day and night.
Though Cadence was only created to promote the Mattel toy line I do believe she earned her cutie mark through discovering her talent for love related magic, such as when Twilight has a flashback. It’s hard to accept the comics as canon bc they just make things more complicated and usually don’t make sense in relation to the show.
Twilight's cutie mark _looks_ like the element of magic. Yes, her magical abilities are strong, but she was also destined to become the princess of friendship. It's perfectly plausible that Cadence got her cutie mark by simply being loving and kind. Celestia may have recognized the crystal heart and acted accordingly, who knows.

My theory would be that she was the old crystal empires baby but it was around the time sombra took over so they rushed her away before he could get to her and take over

This would explain why cadence never mentioned her parents because if it became public knowledge that her parents earth ponies it might invalidate her claim to the throne, another part of this reasoning is that if it was revealed that she was a Pegasus before ascending it might invalidate her marriage to Shining Armour since he is a unicorn. Again this was only a theory in a book which was never finished but I found it interesting.

Of all the pony characters in my little pony friendship is magic, Cadance is my favourite along with Twilight, sort of Fluttershy, and Starlgiht after she reformed, but my favourite character is Spike just because I find him cute a lot. Just not all the episodes though anyways. Twilight is also the pony that took care of him too (well sort of Princess Celestia too as mentioned in the comic story of when Twilight tells the other main five of how she got Spike), which I’m also thinking (this is mainly based off some fan fiction stories about Spike), that Twilight and Celestia were kind of adoptive mothers to him (even though it was confirmed in sparkle’s seven that they are adoptive siblings, I still think Twilight and Spike are adoptive mother and son along with Celestia too) which is why I consider Twilight my favourite as well. But anyways back to Cadance, after watching the season 4 episode, Equestria games (which is now mainly my favourites of the episodes), I feel like there should’ve been more episodes with Spike and Cadance together after the third time that they were together, which is times they are a changeling just because I agree the second one with them wasn’t that good due to Spike being whatever and also since Twilight and Cadance get along, they should’ve had a bit more for Spike with her too next to Twilight. Also (in some other fan fiction stories with Spike and Cadance together), it was likely that Candace also foal sitted Spike as well, some time after Twilight hatched him and was of course at the school for gifted unicorns.
