I feel like Sombra could've been so much more than the show made him. Him actually being the one to summon the evil trio at the start of season 9 would've been cooler than Discord disguised as Grogar, at least imo. He has the coolest image of all villains and his last appearance made me feel like he was very much nerfed in power and competency, I mean he had an entire possible timeline where he wreaks havoc on Equestria and wages successful war against Celestia herself. Now all we need is an explanation to Cozy Glow's youth and what led her to become so sociopathic that she, as a little filly, comfortably hung around and even equaled the two greatest monsters in Equestrian history in malice and cunning, because I feel like that is more disturbing than everypony acknowledged lol
First to like and comment. Sombra’s backstory should’ve been included in the series. The same goes for Queen Chrysalis. At least we know about Tirek’s backstory, but not in full. And we know about the Pony of Shadows and Nightmare Moon. The Storm King gave us one in the movie prequel comic.The Sirens gave us a backstory which was nothing like that in the comics. And we know nothing about Cozy Glow. There should be an animated special about the villains’ backstories based on the Fiendship is Magic mini-series. Discord should also be included.
I remember reading this comic after finishing MLP FIM and being so mad because of how Sombras potential was thrown out the window. He became my favorite after ther his first appearance because he just looked like an interesting villain, but his final appearance in season 9 made me rethink that decision, lol They really should've shown his backstory in season 8 instead of the comics bc i think not a lot of people know that it exists
They just didn't write him very well in season 9. He was done a disservice with that one. I agree that he should have gotten more screen time. Especially since now we know he isn't just a one dimensional villain.
@@kalywaterninja8507 judging by the fact that in this sombra reforming arc we a villain team up with the changelings and starlight wasn't anywhere nearby this probably could have fit as something in the 4th or 5th season or 6th if we wanted to stretch the time before the changelings reform. It would have been interesting to see this version of sombra and his backstory fully animated in some manner.
The only mistake here is from the princess who told him he can change his destiny. She knew about this in the beginning, but she didn't tell it. If she did it, it will be chances that Sombra will never be guided by his mother, be a better person than a king of darkness.
S3-S5 Sombra? Cautious and serious, and implied to be revivable through his horn. This Sombra? Still cautious and serious, and indeed revived through his horn. S9 Sombra? Suddenly campy and reckless; and revived by a random, non-horn-based ritual. No wonder I see the "S9 Sombra was a fake by Discord" headcanon everywhere.
I feel more as if Cadence is a distant relative since Amore probably had extended family who went into hiding in fear of Sombra after hearing of her death and Sombra's subsequent takeover. that and with new knowledge Cadence was a Pegasus before becoming an Alicorn. Her parents probably named her Mi Amore Cadenza since she bore a striking resemblance, which could also just be an old family tradition, like how every princess in The Legend of Zelda, is named, well Zelda, and since Cadence is an orphan she would have no prior knowledge of this tradition, but Amore could also be the last name in this sense. Destiny also knew, since she had the crystal heart as her cutie mark (with similar motifs around like Amore), despite the Crystal Empire, let alone the heart itself had been wiped from any recollection for a millennia by her first appearance. (as well as having circular highlights in her eyes compared to the more hexagonal of the Crystal Ponies, which then again could be a stylistic choice, or her heritage being muted through generations) That and she could be an orphan through a number of reasons, parents could've simply died when she young, possibly by some kind of curse Sombra's lingering shadow in the north put upon her family to make sure none of Amore's descendants come and take his place on the throne. If Cadenza is the last name it would be strange to refer to her as such. The "Mi" could also be similar to that of the German "Von" (which nobility tended to use) the Dutch "Van" and the Italian "Di". All three of which mean "Of" or "From"

No. The IDW comics are not always completely Canon but they are the closest thing we have to figure out these characters' pasts. However, I read on a reddit post this, "The comics are B-canon, according to Hasbro. In other words, they are canon except when they conflict with the show", (PaintedSnail). Additionally, the comics are approved by Hasbro before release.
