Got to give you your props on this one, my friend. Did everything you did, worked perfect first attempt. Thank you. I was able to whip up 5x perfect leaders with swivels and snaps.

great vid, definitely have to make some of my own. I started using all steel for everything musky!

So I'm planning on going after musky and went with this setup. However, I tested this bending method on 120lbs and it always broke before the weight was off the ground at the back bend that he tells you to make at 3:55. I think this is because when the weight is on the line it's actually trying to straighten it out causing it to over stress the wire and breaks way before reaching its max tensile load.
I corrected this by eliminating the back bend and rather than wrapping the wire away from the eye I started my wrap a little low and wrapped towards the eye.
I didn't have a scale but I was able to lift the 120 lbs off the floor and it only broke when I jerked/bounced the weight a couple times. It is far stronger this way and only uses maybe .25" more wire so it's not much larger. It's not as easy to make it look pretty and is more technical to do.

Great video! Thank you very much! I have been using steel leaders only for a while for a number of reasons but you have solidified my belief even more with your experience. I've been cutting and shrink "tubing" the abrasive spot on the leader... Thank you very much!

Hey Hans, Thanks for all the great videos. Trolling at Chautauqua and Waneta , we run long leaders (7 strain) and we hang pencil weights were the main line and leader are connected. I helps catch a lot of floating weeds , along with rod tips below the water surface. Due you have floating weeds in the Buffalo Harbor in the late season ? If so , how do you keep your lures running clean ? Thanks. Dan

How do you store the long ones for trolling? Just roll em up?

What kind of snaps do you like the regular or the circle lock type? Also what length leader for trolling vs jigging? Thanks BP

Mustad stay lock size 4 and mighty mini swivels in 225lb. I use 15 inch leaders for casting and 36 inchers for trolling. Same snaps and swivels for both.....easy peazy

Yup.....just not as risky using Flouro to troll. But I use single strand steel for everything
