    Great vid! Rod actions and reel speeds for popular baits and tactics would be a good one too

    Not boring at all. Diving deep into topics like this is very helpful and interesting.

      +Les L Thank you for watching this also. Leaders aren’t flashy or cool but selecting the right one can be very important. Good luck fishing.

    I lost a couple heavy pike spinners using "heavy" snaps. Since picking up musky fishing, it's been straight split rings for me. Definitely not a boring topic. I love everything musky. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work.

      Your using the wrong snaps then mate, stay lok snaps only. If u find u fight a fish at it has opened, put a split ring at the clip point of the bait

    Love this ...great stuff ... very exciting! Doug Wegner notes that steel leaders to bucktails enables/imparts best allowance for vibration while fluro muffles vibration. Great content thumbs up.

    Aug. 2024. Thanks for the vid. I was fishing skip crick (jump river) today all decked out in latest and greatest. Didn't catch anyting. Fella upstream from me caught a 30" musky on a fake worm and fluoro. I hade to net it for him haha. My observation: watet was clear 5-8ft deep and they could see my leader. Realistic? I don't know

    Fantastic video guys, learned something new. I always use floro on most applications so, I'll definitely be adding some solid wire and wire strain leaders to my arsenal for my glide and D&R

    if you place your hand behind the line / leader when showing thickness, the camera will focus on your hand and make the line visible. thank you for your knowledge. keep doing you.

    Let me ask you John. For a Muskie fisherman on a budget...please recommend one leader type, for each fishing application you described here in this video - Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall and Trolling....material type, length, and connection: swivel or no swivel. Thanks.

    • @johnbette3381
      @johnbette3381 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Joe Fish, if you are on a budget you cannot go wrong with a Solid Wire 12 inch leader (ST174). That will cover you on most general Musky Fishing applications with your average sized Musky Lures, and get the job done at the least expensive price pretty much year round. For trolling applications I would go with a 90# 36" Coated Wire leader (ST090C) Also going to be the least expensive and work well with most any lure out there. The longer length and coated wire helps protect the fish if it were to happen to roll up in your line or leader as well as prevent being cut off. I hope this helps, Thank You, John / Stealth Tackle

    Leaders should be at least 30cm, musky can easily slack line take a bait further than that little wire leader. If u have a glider paused and it takes it from behind, ur getting cut off. Two leaders you need are titanium and fluoro, titanium works best for the gliders and jerkbait and things of that type because its alot stiffer than fluoro, also it doesent kink and lasts ages. And fluoro u can use for any other application.

  • @richardhall1485
    @richardhall1485 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you recommend swivels on the line tie end of the leaders for crankbaits ? or not?

    • @TeamRhinoOutdoors
      @TeamRhinoOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry we've been away from TH-cam for a bit. If you are casting the cranks you probably wouldn't have to. Some smaller cranks run better without just because the swivel adds extra weight to the setup and can throw off some of the little cranks.

  • @michaelgordon2650
    @michaelgordon2650 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What is the verdict on when to use a swivel? Surprised it was not discussed on this lesson.

    • @TeamRhinoOutdoors
      @TeamRhinoOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bucktails and tail rotating top water would be swivel for sure. Many others would be personal choice. We kinda felt like this video was getting long and the subject matter is important but not very exciting. We do have John Bette with Stealth Tackle on our podcast every 3 months or so and cover topics like this when he's on. Good Luck fishing

    so you recommend fluorocarbon for musky unless you want the stranded leader?

    • @TeamRhinoOutdoors
      @TeamRhinoOutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +John Eaton not necessarily. We recommend different leaders based on the bait you are using and what your preference is. If you are using a glide bait or rattle bait a fluorocarbon leader isn't your best option. If you are throwing a bulldawg most anglers use a fluorocarbon or the stranded leader. The size and weight of your bait would usually require a higher pound test on your leader choice. I hope this helps.

    • @johnbette3381
      @johnbette3381 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      John, some people do not like or are not comfortable using Fluorocarbon so that is when you could use the Stranded Wire as an alternative so that you still have a flexible leader. Thank You, John Bette / Stealth Tackle
