Still brilliant after all these years.
R.I.P. Lewis Collins...🙏🇬🇧
Films of this era have so much more gritty realism to me. Maybe it’s nostalgia but all the super clever explosions in HD today can never compare to this 😊
"Slowing down a little, Peter? COME ON MAN,. MOVE YOUR ARSE!!"
Brilliant, love Lewis Collins
RIP Pete Poslethwaite
The Bond producers should hang their heads in shame after not giving the James Bond role to Lewis Collins. RIP Lewis. You would’ve been an incredible Bond!!
What should of happened is serious Peter Skelton Films to carry on from This. Bond was too Jokey. LEWIS / BODIE Was THE FUCKING BOLLOCKS AS AN ON SCREEN PRESENCE!👌
Too violent,Lewis had the looks and the swagger
Here Here.....
The panel said no
Yup
This chapter of the movie contains the most well known scene in British action movie history, when Skellen has been identified as a friendly by the SAS Troopers and they see that he's okay his simple line Anyone seen the girl? when he gets a negative answer he simply says "Right, on me boys!" and what follows is that iconic sequence of Lewis Collins charging down the corridor with his SAS brothers spread out behind him, still gives me chills to this day. top class British cinema right there.
Fcuk Me lad's I'm starving.......
The Brits do these kinds of movies brilliantly.
Damn right we do.
We do the real thing pretty well, too.
Collins would have been such a great Bond
Not with a haircut like that he wouldn’t ! It looks like he’s got a dead squirrel on his head !
@@SpookyFox1000 It was stylish back then plus there are these things called hair dressers.
This film reminds me as a child , loved this film and the sound track and also the real embassy hostage siege in may 1980 .
It was a message, when this Movie was released, Her MAJESTY'S Forces Won the Falklands 🇫🇰 War.
Lewis Collins actually passed the SAS Selection. He wanted to be in the Territorial SAS. They wouldn't let him in because he was too well known in Europe. RIP Lewis from one of your fans across the pond.
@@speedbirdconcordeBOAB He also made Sergeant.
No he didn't, he started reserve selection but was asked to leave because they realised he could never operate, after that he served in the territorial parachute unit 10 para. His best friend is on a podcast on here, Lou from military intelligence is the title and was asked this very question and explained the whole situation. It was very near the end and they'd had meetings at the mod about it and had decided that he couldn't be allowed to continue in a clandestine unit which is what the territorial sas is considered as and was even more so at the time due to its secret role in ww3 if that had ever happened
@@robdean704 Lou has been debunked actually and according to someone to actually know, Rusty Firmin Lewis did pass selection and aced it! Rusty is ex SAS and not some arm chair appointed expert. Rusty was at the Iranian Embassy and spoke to guys he knew in the regiment who were in charge of selection when Lewis was there.
Lewis was in the TA before he entered election for SAS, though he did continue to serve after getting rejected.
@@Biggles2498 No he did not. He served in 10 Para as a private soldier. There is a PR photo which was associated with, 'The Professionals,' depicting him as a Para Sgt. How do I know? I know a bloke called Geoff B- ex-regular Para, served in the TA Para's and was 10 Para Recruit Training Team Plt Sgt. He trained Lew and became a close friend and kept in touch right up until his death. Lew did about 3-4 years in 10 Para. You don't make Sgt in that time- especially in the reserves.
Always gives me a giggle when she flies back through that door after a burst of 9mm, you'd think a 50 cal just hit her lol
I agree, Rod’s own body weight took him out of the window when shot, yet Frankie being shot looked as though she had lost control of her jet pack.
@@MrCardinal1965 jet pack😂😂
50. cal would cut her in half.
You obviously never fired a smg, it's really not like the movies 😮😊
Loved the credits at the end of the film where it said Military Advisers - Anonymous.
My dad picked up on that when we saw this at Odeon Leicester Square ( he'd done 18 years in the "Kate" )
According to Lewis himself those advisors were (obviously) serving SAS and the then head of the regiment Peter De La Billiere tried to get the film banned but once he learned it was going ahead anyway he changed his mind. He opened a few doors and at the start of the film where Hagan and Floyd go to Sterling lines, it turns out that really is the then SAS base...Stirling Lines!
The guys running up and down the ground level roofs are actors but the base is really SAS base.
Also once it came time to do the final assault DLB ordered the stunt team to stand down and he had is own men do the scene instead. So if anyone wonders why it looks so slick and real it is because the SAS troopers carrying out the assault are real SAS troopers, this is why at the end when Pete gets recognised by Steve, Steve raises his respirator up as he is just an actor but the other guys do not as they are still serving in the regiment.
That must have been cool feeling, Lewis running down the corridor leading a group of the best special forces unit in the real world, even if it was just a film!
Lewis also got to drink at Hereford with the boys whilst filming which was really cool...lucky b*stard! That came from Rusty Firmin who is ex regiment and also was at the Iranian embassy siege!
I like how he grabbed the spare mag and used it to reload. You don't see that in movies hardly ever.
They are not in a movie bud this is the real McCoy

Fun fact: The raid scene was done using the real SAS, they offered to the director to do the scene instead of stuntmen.
Those were really SAS guys in the action scenes check the credits no names
If this situation arose today, I wonder if the government of today would have the guts and balls Thatcher had to act. I seriously doubt it.

If you pull a lion tail....
If this happened in today’s world the police would handle it until they were no longer able too or the government cabinet cobra team decides otherwise. Can’t afford to upset the do gooders of the world.
It’s also worth noting the situation would have to get seriously out of control before military action is aloud to proceed and that would mean the police admitting they’re no longer in control or would be able to
SAS Officer: "Synchronise watches, zero nine four seven mark!" .
SAS Soldier: Gimme a chance, actually if we're going to go down the synchronisation route we probably should have done it before we got in the helicopter and left the ground, and what about everyone else? You need to get us to synchronise altogether!"
It’s a good film though dude
It's a real treat watching real SAS dudes performing the take-down of the target rather than stuntmen trying to 'make it look real and exciting'.
Found this movie a bit on the boring side when I first saw it all those years ago, although quite exciting in parts, then watched it again some time later, and again etc. Grew to love it.
First watched it on boxing day 1985 as an 8 yr old. I also found it dull at the time but as an adult who understands the dialogue, it's a cult classic.
Never seen a positive review for this film but personally, I like it. The film definitely has a great music score, by Roy Budd.
Those negative reviews are commies and members of the Peoples Lobby!
Remember seeing this film when I was little, always remembered the music score. I looked for this film for many years, decades. Then it was on tv and I managed to dvd-r record it around 10-12 years ago. Now, I bought the Blue ray of the film from Amazon last month, and I like it.
....of Get Carter fame! Fantastic musician.
This film is remembered for Lewis Collins , the James Bond who never was.
Great tension in this sequence. 'Just aerial observation.' lol.
Great to see how well planned and organized their plan of action was. Now all you need is leadership with a pair of balls to use it when necessary. I wish we had this kind of leadership in the USA now, instead of all these damn crybabies.

Love it, such a good film, love Lewis Collins, RIP
I do too, absolutely electrifying. Who Dares Wins!
RIP Lewis Collins
Part of the grittiness of this scene is due to the lack of ornate cinematography and nice spotting of Roy Budd's score.
7.00 mins - Fuck me lads - nice to be recognised...
Unfairly maligned by movie maven Leonard Maltin, THE FINAL OPTION (aka WHO DARES WINS) is a rip-roaring superthriller from start to finish. You can spot Edward Woodward (THE EQUALIZER) in this climatic scene. Lewis Collins anchored the movie as a Special Air Service commando who goes undercover and tries to stop a gang of anti-nuclear terrorists who threaten a massacre of the United States Ambassador and his guests and assorted personnel after having invaded the U.S. Embassy on the outskirts of London. Also in it was Richard Widmark. Great movie!

Didn't Lewis Collins pass selection in real life? RIP
Yes he most did but not for a Commission.
@@Biggles2498 No he did not. It's BS. He was rejected by 21 SAS (R) because of his high profile. I've read some complete bollocks on here- ranging from Lewis being a Sgt in the TA Para's- he was a Tom, to him passing Selection. He only did about 4 years in 10 Para, you don't make Sgt in the TA in four years- more like 8-10 years to build sufficient experience and pass the various NCO cadres. I know a guy who was ex-regular Para's and then he joined 10 Para TA. He was the recruit training team Plt Sgt when Lew did his basic training and P Coy. Geoff became a close friend of Lew, and maintained contact with him right up until his demise. Lew did NOT pass selection and was never badged as a trooper. 21 SAS would not waste a place on Selection so that a television actor could have a jolly- it would be a waste of time and money. Lew was rejected when he applied to attempt selection. The MYTH that he passed Selection came about because he did some 'training' alongside SAS guys as part of his research for his part in the film prior to filming. He did some tabbing in Sennybridge in the mountains- and that's about it.
Can you do that again , it was s bit fast for me
They seldom ever take prisoners those boys.
Double tap on the objective.
They only took one at Princes Gate, and that was only because there were cameras on them.
@@BedsitBob It wasn't because of camera's. From one of the SAS team on the embassy job that I met on a number of occasions, they were in the process of dragging the one terrorist who escaped out of the building by hiding amongst the hostages back into the building to give him, 'The Good News.' As they were hauling him towards the building, Met Police officer's appeared- so the SAS troopers were unable to do the business least it cause problems.

Great Movie but dedicated to the worlds best special forces, sorry green berets.
I always felt a little bad for Frankie Leith (the girl). She totally hesitates because she sees that it's Skellen and she has feelings for him. That moment of hesitation saved Skellen's life and allowed the other SAS to dump a magazine into her. You can see his look of sadness at her body when he sees that she didn't shoot him when she saw him.

It will be fantastic that Lewis Collins played as James bond 007 but producer Albert Broccoli turned down because his too tough
It had nothing to do with him being, 'too tough.' Connery was hard as nails in real life, and George Lazenby was no powder puff either. Broccoli didn't like Lewis because he found him 'too aggressive' in his demeanour when he interviewed him. I think he came across to Broccoli as 'too try hard.' There are numerous true accounts about Connery which highlight his toughness. When he was 18-19 years old, he pasted 4-5 men in their mid to late 20's who were members an Edinburgh razor gang. Following an earlier confrontation in a snooker hall, which saw Connery humble a gang member who threw Connery's leather jacket on the floor, they found out that he worked on the door of a social club. They turned up and gave him abuse, and challenged him to come outside- believing he would be intimated by their numbers. Connery went outside and put the five of them away in short order. Michael Caine witnessed him batter 3-4 blokes in a London pub in the early half of the 60's. The blokes were shouting abuse at people getting up and singing on an open mic. Connery warned them to desist, which they did for a couple of minutes, then they started being abusive. Connery slammed his pint down and turned on the blokes. Michael Caine stood up and turned to help Sean, by the time he did so and put his pint glass down, Connery had knocked them all out- in seconds. On another occasion, he battered Lana Turner's Mafia boyfriend, who made the mistake of threatening Connery with a pistol at a film studio. He was jealous because Lana Turner fancied Connery, and they were working on a film together. Connery promptly disarmed the bloke and gave him a hiding.
I love this movie!
