This chapter of the movie contains the most well known scene in British action movie history, when Skellen has been identified as a friendly by the SAS Troopers and they see that he's okay his simple line Anyone seen the girl? when he gets a negative answer he simply says "Right, on me boys!" and what follows is that iconic sequence of Lewis Collins charging down the corridor with his SAS brothers spread out behind him, still gives me chills to this day. top class British cinema right there.

No he didn't, he started reserve selection but was asked to leave because they realised he could never operate, after that he served in the territorial parachute unit 10 para. His best friend is on a podcast on here, Lou from military intelligence is the title and was asked this very question and explained the whole situation. It was very near the end and they'd had meetings at the mod about it and had decided that he couldn't be allowed to continue in a clandestine unit which is what the territorial sas is considered as and was even more so at the time due to its secret role in ww3 if that had ever happened

Lewis was in the TA before he entered election for SAS, though he did continue to serve after getting rejected.

He trained Lew and became a close friend and kept in touch right up until his death. Lew did about 3-4 years in 10 Para. You don't make Sgt in that time- especially in the reserves.

According to Lewis himself those advisors were (obviously) serving SAS and the then head of the regiment Peter De La Billiere tried to get the film banned but once he learned it was going ahead anyway he changed his mind. He opened a few doors and at the start of the film where Hagan and Floyd go to Sterling lines, it turns out that really is the then SAS base...Stirling Lines!
The guys running up and down the ground level roofs are actors but the base is really SAS base.
Also once it came time to do the final assault DLB ordered the stunt team to stand down and he had is own men do the scene instead. So if anyone wonders why it looks so slick and real it is because the SAS troopers carrying out the assault are real SAS troopers, this is why at the end when Pete gets recognised by Steve, Steve raises his respirator up as he is just an actor but the other guys do not as they are still serving in the regiment.
That must have been cool feeling, Lewis running down the corridor leading a group of the best special forces unit in the real world, even if it was just a film!
Lewis also got to drink at Hereford with the boys whilst filming which was really cool...lucky b*stard! That came from Rusty Firmin who is ex regiment and also was at the Iranian embassy siege!

You can spot Edward Woodward (THE EQUALIZER) in this climatic scene. Lewis Collins anchored the movie as a Special Air Service commando who goes undercover and tries to stop a gang of anti-nuclear terrorists who threaten a massacre of the United States Ambassador and his guests and assorted personnel after having invaded the U.S. Embassy on the outskirts of London. I've read some complete bollocks on here- ranging from Lewis being a Sgt in the TA Para's- he was a Tom, to him passing Selection. He only did about 4 years in 10 Para, you don't make Sgt in the TA in four years- more like 8-10 years to build sufficient experience and pass the various NCO cadres. I know a guy who was ex-regular Para's and then he joined 10 Para TA. He was the recruit training team Plt Sgt when Lew did his basic training and P Coy. Geoff became a close friend of Lew, and maintained contact with him right up until his demise. Lew did NOT pass selection and was never badged as a trooper. 21 SAS would not waste a place on Selection so that a television actor could have a jolly- it would be a waste of time and money. Lew was rejected when he applied to attempt selection. The MYTH that he passed Selection came about because he did some 'training' alongside SAS guys as part of his research for his part in the film prior to filming. He did some tabbing in Sennybridge in the mountains- and that's about it.

It had nothing to do with him being, 'too tough.' Connery was hard as nails in real life, and George Lazenby was no powder puff either. Broccoli didn't like Lewis because he found him 'too aggressive' in his demeanour when he interviewed him. I think he came across to Broccoli as 'too try hard.' There are numerous true accounts about Connery which highlight his toughness. When he was 18-19 years old, he pasted 4-5 men in their mid to late 20's who were members an Edinburgh razor gang. Following an earlier confrontation in a snooker hall, which saw Connery humble a gang member who threw Connery's leather jacket on the floor, they found out that he worked on the door of a social club. They turned up and gave him abuse, and challenged him to come outside- believing he would be intimated by their numbers. Connery went outside and put the five of them away in short order. Michael Caine witnessed him batter 3-4 blokes in a London pub in the early half of the 60's. The blokes were shouting abuse at people getting up and singing on an open mic. Connery warned them to desist, which they did for a couple of minutes, then they started being abusive. Connery slammed his pint down and turned on the blokes. Michael Caine stood up and turned to help Sean, by the time he did so and put his pint glass down, Connery had knocked them all out- in seconds. On another occasion, he battered Lana Turner's Mafia boyfriend, who made the mistake of threatening Connery with a pistol at a film studio. He was jealous because Lana Turner fancied Connery, and they were working on a film together. Connery promptly disarmed the bloke and gave him a hiding.

@@taefravis No. He did NOT. He applied to 21 SAS(R) to attempt Selection, and they rejected him due to his high profile. They would not have wasted a valuable place and the money from the training budget so a well known tv actor could have a 'jolly.' He served in 10 Para for about four years as a Tom, and that is it. It's a MYTH that he passed Selection. I know the guy who was 10 Para Recruit Training Team Plt Sgt, he became a close friend of Lewis and maintained contact with him right up until his demise. Geoff B has told me Lew did NOT do Selection. The MYTH developed because he did some training alongside SAS blokes as part of his research to play the part of Skellen.
