    Sounds like the beginning of domestication to me.

      @puneetsapaliga229 5 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    • @RikkuTakanashi
      @RikkuTakanashi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      That is a cool idea, though not really one that's needed. They already share a symbiotic relationship and trying to hard too domesticate them might ruin the delicate relationship they have. The ants provide natural pest control and eggs, the humans take only a few of the eggs, never too many, and not only allow and encourage them to live in their veritable paradise, but make them convenient pathways. And the egg loss is really no worse then what they'd might naturally lose. I also like how he returned the majority of the ants he knocked off while getting the eggs. It really is teamwork at it's finest.

    Ants are great. Water and air pathways to keep soil aerobic and pest control. Garden in sustainable ways using natural systems and ecology, that's what I teach on my channel also.
    We get into trouble when we try to kill everything. Then we need to replace the function of that which we killed, and we create unsustainable systems requiring inputs.
    For example, kill a pest. You just removed the food source of the predator of that pest. Now you need to do its job, every time. Wonder why you always have pests? Because you kill them, and sabotage the food supply of the natural balanced nature solution (predatory insects).
    Love the video, it's how I teach gardening.

      People who watch channels like BBC earth arent the problem at all. The problem are second world countries like the USA, China and India who allow the use of certain poisons and weed killers to maximize production.

    • @CanadianPermacultureLegacy
      @CanadianPermacultureLegacy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@wldqq totally agree. Unfortunately our sphere of control is limited. • @ashgcy
      @ashgcy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Canadian Permaculture Legacy Just remember it’s always important to NOT introduce foreign species into the ecosystem however, for example in Australia the introduction of cane toads to combat cane beetles had a severe negative impact on the surrounding ecosystem. I’m not saying it’s bad to rely on the natural processes to protect our crops, I think it’s could be an amazing combatant against pollution and the like, I’m just saying we should probably do it with caution and with enough prior knowledge before we introduce species

    • @CanadianPermacultureLegacy
      @CanadianPermacultureLegacy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ashgcy absolutely, great point and thanks for mentioning it. We basically destroyed our chestnuts with chestnut blight. I have dog strangling vine choking out trees because someone brought it here as an ornamental.
      Now that being said, for invasive lists there is a lot of stupid stuff out there. For example, any pioneer plant like seabuckthorn will top most invasive lists. Why? Because our planet is dying and these plants build soil. Infact sometimes the reason they are listed as invasive is because they build fertility so fast that they disrupt local plants that grow on dead soil. Well, we are full pants-on-head stupid here aren't we.
      Ben Falk has a great podcast on this, "invasive to when?".
      But yes, I agree 99% of the time, but with some common sense applied too. We do need to heal the planet, and we need to move past sustainable. What are we trying to sustain? We need to move towards regeneration.

    I wonder if like, people back in the day or hell even people in some areas now use these grubs “glue” to make things. How strong is it I wonder? It’s got to be waterproof. Just like people use army ants mandibles to bite down on wounds to use as sutures. So interesting!
