I'm very confused on the timeline here. When did the prince that destroyed his home live, and how much time passed until the unicorn invasion happened? That would define whether Zargothrax went from 0 to 100, or it was a long road to villainy that eventually ended with him as a galactic overlord.
"Zargothrax: Master of Nightmares, Keeper of Celestial Flame, Sorcerer, Bound to the Darkness, Wizard King, Chaos Incarnate" is going to be hard to fit on a business card.
Angus: "You destroyed Dundee, raised havoc, killed innocent people and kidnapped the princess! Why!?" Zargothrax: "You took my favorite weaving basket spot to build your kingdom."
I mean, he is understandably frustrated with an u just and corrupt use of eminent domain. Setting into motion an interdimensional plot to kill the king and his descendants across multiple timelines might have been a bit of a knee-jerk reaction though.
I never heard anybody say HE killed the unicorns, only that he raised them from the dead. Might be they got killed when his home (and theirs) was destroyed to build Dundee, and he just wanted them to be able to exact their revenge as well.
I think the guy in the cloak is Ralathor. He looks more like Ralathor did in the first album, which is where that scene takes place. I don't know who that guy is, but it's probably not Proletius.
I think that's Proletius, Ralathor is the one with the wizard staff who freezes Zargothrax in liquid ice. Plus that pistol was the starting fire for launching artillery onto Zargothrax's position, which would make sense for that to be Proletius' job since he's the leader of the knights of crail, while Ralathor is just a mysterious hermit.

OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! Gloryhammer! The backstory of Zargothrax! This is so cool! What an amazing sight to wake up to! Extremely awesome animation to go along with. Huge fan of P.A.R.T.Y. so this is like a dream come true! 😼
Wow... to see the Unicorn Invasion of Dundee played out in an actual visual is truly awesome. I hope you get the ability to do far more visual storytelling. This was incredible
They absolutely crushed this one, this is easily my new favorite song from Gloryhammer! The animation is beautiful as well, everything about this video is perfect.
Animation is so perfect for the Gloryhammer stories. It’s exactly like I pictured it in my head. I’m also sold on Sozos, I was skeptical at first but this song absolutely rocked
This is amazing, while I had some reservations with Sozos from “Fly Away”, they were pushed away with this song, I pray you guys keep making bangers like this one, anyways great job gentleman!
Pretty much this; In Fly Away, he seemed to be faltering; Maybe even intimidated. Perhaps he didn't quite embrace the cheese of Gloryhammer (or power metal in general); And he seemed to be scared of embracing belts. But here, it seemed like he has finally adapted to the style and has the energy of a power metal singer; Needing to be held back so he doesn't belt everything.
That moment when you realized that Gloryhammer can literally be a TV show. Yes it's nerdy but nerdy cool, and I'm sure some Jocks will be jamming to Gloryhammer at the gym
to be honest it would be more original than most of the stuff already out there and be far more entertaining. I'd watch the fall of the kingdom of dundee to the invasion of unicorns, or the end of one season as it sets up for the next season having a time skip to the future and the rise of the chaos wizards with the first few ep's sort of showing a divided perspective as dundee rebuilds and thrives over the centuries mirrored by the chaos wizards gaining power and acting in secret with the attack of the chaos wizards being the second or third ep
Hell yeah, 1:36, 1:50, 2:00, 2:11, 2:22, and of course the entire sequence from 2:32 till the end are some of the most satisfyingly animated action sequences I've ever seen! It makes me wish that there was a whole gloryhammer animated series in this style! Alex Henderson is a paragon of the medium!
I award the most epic moment in a metal music video to the "oh yeah" at 1:09. -The undead unicorn rising to its hindlimbs with lightning striking in the background. Perfectly fits to the song. Just fantastic. Great song!
This looks like such a good concept for an animated series that I would have loved as a kid. The extended plot would be that the clone of Zargothrax is far more evil than the original and Zargothrax and Angus often have to work together as an unlikely pair to stop him. Angus because he's the hero. Zargothrax because he wants to prove that he is the greater evil genius.
1:39 gotta love the unexpected keychange! I generally think that this is a much more musically refined piece than their previous songs (except for the album ending tracks) really showing how far they've come as songwriters
[Dungeon Master]: Alright, you died sneaking over a fire trap. Re-roll a new character. [Me]: Alright, I guess I'll roll an Orc Blacksmith. [DM]: And your name? [Me]: Laser Goblin. [DM]: Get out.
I can't put words on how much I want more of this ! Everything is amazing, the animation, the music, the animation, the song, the animation. Did I say animation three times ? YES I DID !!
A few details I noticed in the Animation: -When the clone of Zargothrax got awakened at the start one of the skeleton crew members of Alestorm from the animation for P.A.R.T.Y could be seen in the tank -When Zargothrax' Clone defeats the group at around 2:00 only Angus McFife is not vaporized - Pre- minute 2 Angus McFife uses the old armor design (possible hint at it being the Thomas Winkler version of Angus McFife - Post- minute 2 Angus McFife looks younger and sports a new armor (maybe hinting at the switch of Lead singers) - Zargothrax' Clone looks at the new Angus McFife in confusion, maybe wondering why he looks different now.
I don't think that's how it is. For the last few frames you start to see Angus' helmet disintegrate too. Keep in mind they're technically different people. Thomas Winkler played Angus McFife I and Angus McFife XIII. Sozos Michael played Angus McFife II. At 2:15 you can see the tomb guards readout which says "Paternal DNA match confirmed" So 2:00 was a TPK. The Angus after that point was the son of the Angus who died.
You are mighty indeed. All of your songs motivate me. I will go to you performance in Mexico City. This song in particular is one of my favourites. Best regards from Mexico
1:13 why is there a statue of Angus with the Hammer when this is also depicting the Unicorn invasion of Dundee, which happened before Angus I had gotten the hammer?
I don’t know why I didn’t see this before (2 weeks ago) I’m obssesed with the song and the video and more because it inspires me to fight for my dreams and more now in a specific moment in my life HOOTS!! 🇲🇽
I've always thought that Gloryhammer songs lend themselves tremendously to animated music videos, and there has been a disappointing shortage thus far. Glad to see that finally being amended. And to see Alex Henderson getting to work on more official music videos. Despite a recognizable style he's good at making it fit the tone of whatever he's making, in this case a lovely blend of dark, epic and goofy. Excellent use of color too, both striking and matching the artwork of the corresponding album where any given event takes place. I would not be against an animated series or something along those lines in some likely distant future.
The structure of this song is an amazing subversion of expectations, just like the 4th album's story: It starts with the first verse of the chorus, like many GH songs. Then follows a verse, the bridge, and the chorus. After that, the second verse has nothing to do with the first one, but that's ok. GH has shown us this many times, sometimes they become the most memorable part of the song (Legendary Enchanted Jetpack anyone?). Then, after that, the bridge would come... wait, is that the chorus? Without the singer? And, finally, the bridge. Or was it the chorus all this time? Mind. Blown.
Okay not going to lie, that was absolutely awesome. Animation was awesome, I like the story of this album so far, and new guy Sozos is starting to hit his stride.
Okay, so if i understand correctly: Story shows us time before history of Gloryhammer songs, but is direct continuation of Legends From Beyond The Galactic Terrorvortex ( Album ends with message about Zargothrax awaken, and at 0:30 clone "rewinds" timer, to show us what happened in past). Zargothrax was weaving baskets, but his land was conquered by Dundax and his kingdom. We've learned his motives, his history, and fact that he, knowing or not of his future, made a clone ( 0:52 ). We've seen his downfall, but his clone, with his memories and greater power annihilated entire original squad ( 1:53 - 2:00 ) And while new form alone lacked power to unleash original form, ( 2:25 ), new young prince, full on hopium decided to avenge his ancestors, and (While fighting with last Angus corrupted by knife of evil? {2:44}), he provided lacking juice to free Zargothrax ( 2:59). I got it correctly?
That would make sense if the terrorvortex album didn't end with a zargothrax dieing and sending a signal to wake up the clone. Assuming its the original and the clone only woke up after the he died, than he would have already been free from the ice and it doesnt work. If this is the story, we are seeing some weird time loop stuff happening because of the paradox with the signal. From what I can see, the only way this works is if the clone was the one who went through the terrorvortex and died, while the original was doing something else in the background during the second album. Thats my head cannon at least, with the clone model being used in what looks to be a scene depicting the volcano from the terrorvortex album. 1:58
I know almost nothing about the story but on a musical level, this is fantastic. I feel like a song with these lyrics should be embarrasing but the entire thing is so uplifting that it isnt
Soo... Zargothrax was the victim of the Kingdom of Dundee. And his clone went back to time in the orginial galaxy, where Earth was destroyed, and helped to himself to get free from ice. Did I get it right?
Almost, the clone itself didn't travel through space and time, it was always lying hidden and dormant. When zargothrax dies at the end of the last album, his death triggered an interdimensional signal to wake up the clone in the year 1022
More his clone was awoken in 1022 in the original universe and downloaded the memories of the original Zargothrax (including the terrorvortex memories with 666 errors), but the music videos have always has a bit of artistic licence.

The Brotherhood didn’t control their robots. A common theme for their songs. Someone fucked up and now everyone dies. Glad they’re a multiverse so they just move on to the next one and try to fix it? O.0

OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! Gloryhammer! The backstory of Zargothrax! This is so cool! What an amazing sight to wake up to! Extremely awesome animation to go along with. Huge fan of P.A.R.T.Y. so this is like a dream come true! 😼
The fact the esoteric symbol is a 2D projection of a d20 is a nice touch here.
Wow... to see the Unicorn Invasion of Dundee played out in an actual visual is truly awesome. I hope you get the ability to do far more visual storytelling. This was incredible
I love that zargothraxs origin story is laterally angus bulldozed the field where he weaved baskets.
Dude built a bridge over his weaving spot and decided to be a generational hater to angus
From the music video they didnt even destroy his home, it looked like they took extra care not to, and Zargothrax still got pissed.
🤘brutal 🤘
God, i cannot say how much i love the little detail of it being the original zargothrax you can see in the crystal at 2:58, only to reveal the clone.
Where?
I never noticed that. Good eye!
That moment when you realized that Gloryhammer can literally be a TV show. Yes it's nerdy but nerdy cool, and I'm sure some Jocks will be jamming to Gloryhammer at the gym
i know i will
to be honest it would be more original than most of the stuff already out there and be far more entertaining.
I'm the one jamming to this shit 2 days in a row. Lifting shit with THE PRINCE OF FIVE MUST DIE.
I'm listening to this while running on a cross trainer....its happening😮
i literally train everyday while listening to them. Am i the jock? 🤨🤨
This animation medium works a lot better than the live action videos
Hell yeah, 1:36, 1:50, 2:00, 2:11, 2:22, and of course the entire sequence from 2:32 till the end are some of the most satisfyingly animated action sequences I've ever seen! It makes me wish that there was a whole gloryhammer animated series in this style! Alex Henderson is a paragon of the medium!
it really brings Glory hammer to life
I feel like the Live action videos have their own campy uniqueness to them.
we need this but for the older songs.
The main advantage of animation is that you can have anything happen if you can explain it to the animation team.
We NEED this level of animation for Maleficus Geminus. The finale needs the same treatment!!!!!!
That’s actually a fucking genius idea, I would absolutely love to see that
1:39 gotta love the unexpected keychange! I generally think that this is a much more musically refined piece than their previous songs (except for the album ending tracks) really showing how far they've come as songwriters
For real, they're doing some cool things in their new tracks. Not just a keychange at the end anymore! KEY CHANGES IN THE MIDDLE!
We need a GloryHammer videogame with music from the band throughout.
that or an animated series
But which side would we play as?
[Dungeon Master]: Alright, you died sneaking over a fire trap. Re-roll a new character.
[Me]: Alright, I guess I'll roll an Orc Blacksmith.
[DM]: And your name?
[Me]: Laser Goblin.
[DM]: Get out.
This Video Kicks ass, I hope more of the previous story is animated
Zargothrax has major Darkseid vibes and I am enjoying it
Mad props for including iconic scenes from the first three albums!
I’m so happy for Alex Henderson, his DK video was great and now he’s made official videos for Alestorm AND Gloryhammer
The dude is incredibly talented, and I love that he uses his animation skill to make these ridiculous music videos
Sozos is killing it so far. It's different, but in the right way. Absolute solid job man.
I can't put words on how much I want more of this ! Everything is amazing, the animation, the music, the animation, the song, the animation. Did I say animation three times ? YES I DID !!
I hope the synthwave version will release too. (3:26) Would be awesome.
Great song, amazing animation, i want more. Songs, animated series, movies, games... bring it on!
I love that Zargothrax can pull the: “From my point of view the -Jedi- Prince of Fife is evil!” 💀
Please god, for the love of all this is holy, do a lore-accurate album like this. Idc which. This animator is crazy good.
This was absolutely perfect. The music...incredible. The animation...awesome. The lore...epic.
This slaps! Can't wait for the new album.
Things that looked pretty DnD to me.
0:17 Clone
0:41 Druidcraft
0:52 D20 summoning circle
1:02 Create Undead
1:12 Firestorm
1:17 Fireball
1:28 Scrying
1:38 Shield Twice
1:52 Contingency
1:59 Basically Firestorm again
2:00 Polymorph
2:24 Time Stop
2:50 Major Image
A few details I noticed in the Animation:
-When the clone of Zargothrax got awakened at the start one of the skeleton crew members of Alestorm from the animation for P.A.R.T.Y could be seen in the tank
-When Zargothrax' Clone defeats the group at around 2:00 only Angus McFife is not vaporized
- Pre- minute 2 Angus McFife uses the old armor design (possible hint at it being the Thomas Winkler version of Angus McFife
- Post- minute 2 Angus McFife looks younger and sports a new armor (maybe hinting at the switch of Lead singers)
- Zargothrax' Clone looks at the new Angus McFife in confusion, maybe wondering why he looks different now.
I don't think that's how it is. For the last few frames you start to see Angus' helmet disintegrate too. Keep in mind they're technically different people. Thomas Winkler played Angus McFife I and Angus McFife XIII. Sozos Michael played Angus McFife II. At 2:15 you can see the tomb guards readout which says "Paternal DNA match confirmed"
So 2:00 was a TPK. The Angus after that point was the son of the Angus who died.
Zargothrax' Clone is actually noticing the magic hammer, realizing he could trick Angus into breaking the ice for him.
I am happy. Such a great age for power metal, this is a fantastic song and an awesome video. I WANT MORE!!!!
More animated music videos like this, please!
You are mighty indeed.
All of your songs motivate me. I will go to you performance in Mexico City.
This song in particular is one of my favourites.
Best regards from Mexico
If "The fire of Ancient Cosmic Destiny" had a video like that, the universe couldn't resist!
This has to be the best animated video for a song I have ever seen, Gloryhammer needs an animated show
Finally a million questions answered by a music video and not even a song. Well done this is amazing. ❤
Glory hammer awesome band and amazing video with excellent guitarlist and fantastic drummer 🥁 🥁🥁🥁🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎤🥁🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🎵🤘🏻🎵
Thanks!
I think we can all agree the true villain, the ultimate start of darkness, is imminent domain laws.
THIS IS SO AWESOME! I HAVE NO WORDS! SIMPLY GLORIOUS!
I cant really express how this song actually sounds great and how the video emphasizes it
Now, are we having baskets handmade by Zarg on the merch or what :DDDD This was awesome!
So, you're telling me you DON'T have a Zarg-handwoven basket at home yet? And you're calling yourself a fan? Pff...poseur.
I would pay for one of those.
That ruled. Amazing to hear Zargothrax's humble origin story.
1:13 why is there a statue of Angus with the Hammer when this is also depicting the Unicorn invasion of Dundee, which happened before Angus I had gotten the hammer?
I don’t know why I didn’t see this before (2 weeks ago)
I’m obssesed with the song and the video and more because it inspires me to fight for my dreams and more now in a specific moment in my life
HOOTS!!
The structure of this song is an amazing subversion of expectations, just like the 4th album's story:
It starts with the first verse of the chorus, like many GH songs.
Mind. Blown.
They just know how to craft a good god damn song. I can't stop listening to this one lmfao.
Okay not going to lie, that was absolutely awesome. Animation was awesome, I like the story of this album so far, and new guy Sozos is starting to hit his stride.
Okay, so if i understand correctly:
Story shows us time before history of Gloryhammer songs, but is direct continuation of Legends From Beyond The Galactic Terrorvortex ( Album ends with message about Zargothrax awaken, and at 0:30 clone "rewinds" timer, to show us what happened in past).
Zargothrax was weaving baskets, but his land was conquered by Dundax and his kingdom.
We've learned his motives, his history, and fact that he, knowing or not of his future, made a clone ( 0:52 ).
We've seen his downfall, but his clone, with his memories and greater power annihilated entire original squad ( 1:53 - 2:00 )
And while new form alone lacked power to unleash original form, ( 2:25 ), new young prince, full on hopium decided to avenge his ancestors, and (While fighting with last Angus corrupted by knife of evil? {2:44}), he provided lacking juice to free Zargothrax ( 2:59).
I got it correctly?
2:34 symbol on Zargothrax clone's chest is kinda reversed version of symbol on Thunder Striking Wizard Trasher.
This is the Zargothrax backstory. That's SICK! I love this worldbuilding!
The runes at 2:21 say "abandon all hope ye hwo trespass upon the fortress of crail"
How gratifying that they continue to write not only great music, but also accompany it with no less epic stories.
"Damn, that guy built a castle next door. I better invade his kingdom with undead unicorns... In about 1000 years time"
at this point I will be almost 2000 years old, perfect moment in life to begin conquests I think.
Got to see this live all the way back in January on the munich world premiere. Just as awesome as I remembered it!
Hail Hoots!
Alex Henderson does some amazing animation for an amazing song. Thanks for releasing this!
Soo... Zargothrax was the victim of the Kingdom of Dundee. And his clone went back to time in the orginial galaxy, where Earth was destroyed, and helped to himself to get free from ice. Did I get it right?
That seems to be one interpretation
Almost, the clone itself didn't travel through space and time, it was always lying hidden and dormant. When zargothrax dies at the end of the last album, his death triggered an interdimensional signal to wake up the clone in the year 1022
More his clone was awoken in 1022 in the original universe and downloaded the memories of the original Zargothrax (including the terrorvortex memories with 666 errors), but the music videos have always has a bit of artistic licence.
Yup! "This is getting out of hand, now there are two of them!"
I thought that the clone was from the original galaxy.
If I am not mistaken, this dude also animated Alestorm's P.A.R.T.Y... 😄 Amazing job. And the song is total banger, so happy Gloryhammer lives on.
Chris knows how to find great animators. This artist also created the animation for pirate party by Alestorm. Heard this song at their concert. Can't wait for the new album🤟🤟❤
i was somehow reminded of Alestorm's PARTY video & i now know why. this Gloryhammer video was really awesome & very well animated.
i just discovered this band a few days ago and its becoming one of my favorite band ever. The lore is awesome, funny, and very complete. cant wait to discover the new album!
Can we just take a moment to realise how useless the re-animated statues guarding the fortress of crail were...
Just like the actual knight of crail
They at least tried
To be fair, the fastest thing around when they were created was probably a unicorn
Don't underestimate the power of Angus' epic mount...
The Brotherhood didn’t control their robots. A common theme for their songs. Someone fucked up and now everyone dies.
Glad they’re a multiverse so they just move on to the next one and try to fix it? O.0
This new co-operative work with Alex Henderson, first Alestorm and now Gloryhammer, is something I hope continues! It is beyond amazing!
Would anyone else watch this show animated like this?
Absolutely PHENOMENAL. Always a giant fan of this animation style... can't wait to see y'all live in Chicago!!
It makes me want to see an animated gloryhammer show that maybe is sort of like he-man with this animation but the stuff in each song is covered in an episode or two with each disk covering maybe one or two seasons
OK...
BUT THE ANIMATION IS GORGEOUS!!!!
there's genuinely not a bad song by these guys. very impressed.
Ok, I have to say this is the first of their new songs I really like. This is awesome! Now I'm really looking forward to the album and more new songs.
Two absolute legends combine their power to make some absolutely phenomenal work.
