My headcanon is that Batman: Dark Tomorrow, Superman: The Man of Steel, and Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis are all in one universe that gets destroyed in a crisis event
No one's gonna mention the fact that Aquaman's harpoon claw curls into a fist when fighting? Thus showing that a different character model existed before the harpoon was added.
The devs were probably going to use the 1994 version of Aquaman, but not use the harpoon hand, then someone at DC was all "Nuh-uh" and forced them to change it last minute.
This is one of those games, that if anyone actually tries to defend it with something like, "This isn't too bad." or "People are too harsh, it's fine!" I would question weather said person, was indeed, human.
I think they even made a Green Lantern movie game too that seems to have the same terrible mechanisms. And yeah, DC kept hiring this same studio despite negative reviews even back then.
Actually, a lot of super heroes just don't mention their parents. Superman and Batman had their parents woven in to their backstory… I think Spider-Man (Marvel) lore briefly mentions his parents, but I forget if they are dead, or just live elsewhere. Hulk's dad is still alive to my knowledge, as are Jimmy Neutron's (if Iron Man and Batman are super heroes, so is J.N.), and Raven's. The parents of the kids in Big Hero Six (movie that came out) are alive. Pretty sure the parents of the Flash, Shazam, and most of the Lantern Corps. are alive. Batman Beyond's Batman's parents might be alive, I'll have to look into that.

The funny thing is that communicating with and controlling sea creatures would actually make for a pretty good game if done correctly: You could summon an octopus or squid to unlock doors, go through tight spaces to get something on the other side, or blind something with ink; summon a crab or lobster to cut stuff; use a whale or dolphin's echolocation or a shark or ray's electromagnetic sense (yeah, that's a thing, look it up) to find stuff; the possibilities are endless and it's a shame they didn't take advantage of this more. I can't imagine why they'd make a game set entirely underwater and then not go out of their way to make it look good! I understand that this is a console generation behind Endless Ocean and its sequel Blue World, but even still, why does everything underwater look so depressing? Have these people never SEEN a coral reef before?

The Justice League cartoon's interpretation of how he got his hook hand was much better. He had to cut it off to save his newborn son from dying in lava.

Just so you know, this version of Aquaman was raised by dolphins. The one following you in the game may well be his mom. No, seriously. He called it _Mom_ or _Mother._ PS: I've seen videos of this game before, and honestly thought it was a N-64 game til you showed the case. The graphics are that bad.

I had this game when I was little and I remember not being able to figure out what to do or where to go. I remember the awkward camera control and not being able to control aquaman properly. And I remember the graphics being absolutely terrible.
@@raafmaat I think it was below average. There were some high graphics games in this era, and even the average graphic were a bit cleaner. (If anything, the hair didn't bug out)
I'd have to say that your hunch that the same people being involved probably has an effect on at least how the games stories are. All three games commit the same sin story wise. You need to be familiar with that character and what was happening in the comics around the time these games came out to know anything otherwise you're going to be completely lost.
Aquaman's powers in actuality: Superman level strength, speed, and durability. Able to command legions of deep sea creatures telepathically. Able to breathe underwater and swim at speeds up to 150 miles per hour. Can only be hurt by Atlantean forged weapons or the arsenal used by Black Manta. Carries the Trident of Neptune which gives him the power of Poseidon (Greek god of the Sea).
Hook hand worked in the justice league cartoon where his brother tied him and his newborn son to an active sea volcano and he freed on hand but couldn’t free the other and had to rip it off to save him and his son. Then later when the brother is using a device activated by the stolen trident that would melt the ice caps and flood the world. Aquaman knocks him into a ledge. Then instead of helping his brother up, he just picks the trident up and walks away. Then we see the brother fall to his death. Needless to say, I love this cartoon.
The editing in this video is fantastic and watching this is worth it alone for that. Everything else is just delicious eye candy and ear butter. Good on you Rerez for getting me fat before I even got to eat my Thanksgiving dinner. GGs.
My opinion of Aquaman is that he's actually cooler than people might think. I mean with the ability to talk to aquatic life, you command a shark, a megalodon, a mosasaurus, or even the FREAKING KRAKEN! Near invulnerability would be cool too as well, you would be (almost) unkillable. Also with the ability to control the WORLD'S OCEANS will allow you to create tsunamis and maelstroms/whirlpools even bigger and more powerful than any other on the planet. Heck, you could even pull a Moses and part seas with it if you wanted to. Not only that but his trident sprays powerful jets of water. Powerful jets like that can cut through steel in fact, they are used for that exact purpose in real life as they can be used to cut out specific shapes from steel to use for all sorts of things. If a water jet that powerful can cut through steel, then you can definitely bet it will cut through flesh and bone as well, making Aquaman's trident a pretty strong weapon. The general design of him sucks, I mean the short, somewhat curly hair isn't really fitting for someone aqua-themed, neither is the lack of facial hair. His 1994 redesign looks like it makes more sense than his original look. Not only that but what the heck does the generic superhero outfit colored orange and green have to do with anything aquatic? Sure, the suit has fish scales and maybe the green can be compared to seaweed, but it just looks silly. He should be wearing something similar to his evil counterpart, Sea King, who actually looks kind of cool. I'm not saying Aquaman should copy Sea King's outfit directly, just change some things that look like they would make sense for a good character as opposed to an evil character. I know this was a kind of long comment, but I just had to get out everything I actually wanted to say about Aquaman.
Otaku_GameFan yep xplay was my first thought. I can still hear Sessler ranting about how the only graphical effort used in the entire game seems to be the mullet. And the no dialogue cut scenes lol.

Actually, this Aquaman isn't based on the 1994 comic redesign, but very close! It's actually based on the Justice League variant where it's not his arm that gotten eaten off, it's where he cut off his own arm to save his kid. The subtle difference is the hand. Rather than the harpoon, it's the hook

Hey, the Aquaman hook hand comics were awesome. In fact, they deserved a way better game. Peter David decided to up his telepathy to include talking to stuff like a giant alien skull ship buried under Atlantis, and he led a team of water based heroes to fight off an entire alien invasion all on his own, no jla or Superman needed. He also redefined his morality and made him a badass, like when he hit a US naval base with a tidal wave to free a friend of his they held captive. Aquaman was a boring character and the redesign made him interesting. The hook hand was controlled telepathically and could be a hook, spin like a drill, fire an unbreakable cable that let him swing around like Batman, or morph into a hand shape. Hook hand Aquaman rocks. His origin at the time was simple. Atlanteans feared a prophecy of a blond haired wizard so they abandoned him as a baby on mercy reef to be eaten by sharks. Only his instinctive use of his powers saved him until he was adopted and raised by dolphins. Simple.
Wow. This game sure sucks. It made me lose orientation so hard when you were desperately trying to determine what is what, I am not sure if I'm still in my home country or on Mars.

Also, you immediately get lost in both games: with the hair and with the story(seriously I only got like 2% in ecco)!

I had this game when I was little and I remember not being able to figure out what to do or where to go. I remember the awkward camera control and not being able to control aquaman properly. And I remember the graphics being absolutely terrible.

I'd have to say that your hunch that the same people being involved probably has an effect on at least how the games stories are. All three games commit the same sin story wise. You need to be familiar with that character and what was happening in the comics around the time these games came out to know anything otherwise you're going to be completely lost.

Superman level strength, speed, and durability.
Able to command legions of deep sea creatures telepathically.
Able to breathe underwater and swim at speeds up to 150 miles per hour.
Can only be hurt by Atlantean forged weapons or the arsenal used by Black Manta.
Carries the Trident of Neptune which gives him the power of Poseidon (Greek god of the Sea).

Hook hand worked in the justice league cartoon where his brother tied him and his newborn son to an active sea volcano and he freed on hand but couldn’t free the other and had to rip it off to save him and his son.
Then later when the brother is using a device activated by the stolen trident that would melt the ice caps and flood the world. Aquaman knocks him into a ledge. Then instead of helping his brother up, he just picks the trident up and walks away. Then we see the brother fall to his death.
Needless to say, I love this cartoon.

My opinion of Aquaman is that he's actually cooler than people might think. I mean with the ability to talk to aquatic life, you command a shark, a megalodon, a mosasaurus, or even the FREAKING KRAKEN! Near invulnerability would be cool too as well, you would be (almost) unkillable. Also with the ability to control the WORLD'S OCEANS will allow you to create tsunamis and maelstroms/whirlpools even bigger and more powerful than any other on the planet. Heck, you could even pull a Moses and part seas with it if you wanted to. Not only that but his trident sprays powerful jets of water. Powerful jets like that can cut through steel in fact, they are used for that exact purpose in real life as they can be used to cut out specific shapes from steel to use for all sorts of things. If a water jet that powerful can cut through steel, then you can definitely bet it will cut through flesh and bone as well, making Aquaman's trident a pretty strong weapon. The general design of him sucks, I mean the short, somewhat curly hair isn't really fitting for someone aqua-themed, neither is the lack of facial hair. His 1994 redesign looks like it makes more sense than his original look. Not only that but what the heck does the generic superhero outfit colored orange and green have to do with anything aquatic? Sure, the suit has fish scales and maybe the green can be compared to seaweed, but it just looks silly. He should be wearing something similar to his evil counterpart, Sea King, who actually looks kind of cool. I'm not saying Aquaman should copy Sea King's outfit directly, just change some things that look like they would make sense for a good character as opposed to an evil character. I know this was a kind of long comment, but I just had to get out everything I actually wanted to say about Aquaman.

Actually, this Aquaman isn't based on the 1994 comic redesign, but very close!
It's actually based on the Justice League variant where it's not his arm that gotten eaten off, it's where he cut off his own arm to save his kid. The subtle difference is the hand. Rather than the harpoon, it's the hook

Hey, the Aquaman hook hand comics were awesome. In fact, they deserved a way better game. Peter David decided to up his telepathy to include talking to stuff like a giant alien skull ship buried under Atlantis, and he led a team of water based heroes to fight off an entire alien invasion all on his own, no jla or Superman needed. He also redefined his morality and made him a badass, like when he hit a US naval base with a tidal wave to free a friend of his they held captive. Aquaman was a boring character and the redesign made him interesting. The hook hand was controlled telepathically and could be a hook, spin like a drill, fire an unbreakable cable that let him swing around like Batman, or morph into a hand shape. Hook hand Aquaman rocks. His origin at the time was simple. Atlanteans feared a prophecy of a blond haired wizard so they abandoned him as a baby on mercy reef to be eaten by sharks. Only his instinctive use of his powers saved him until he was adopted and raised by dolphins. Simple.
