Joy's debut was a special album, all the songs are remakes of popular korean songs from late 1990 until early 2000. The music video was short in Jeju Island, Joys birthplace and where the family of her mother still lives today. Everyone in the video is a Jeju native and they portray their very own lives/culture! Even the little girl is no actress, just a sweet little girl and the family with her at the end is her actual family. You got the concept of the MV/song pretty much right! The beginning relates to the two prologue videos released, that depict the start and happy times of her relationship - the boy on her phone is meant to be her ex-boyfriend! She also released three live videos of other songs from the album - Je T'aime, If Only (featuring Paul Kim) and Happy Birthday to You (released on her birthday as a gift to her fans!) Maybe you can check these out someday as well, they should be safe for youtube reactions! Like Water is Wendy's love letter to her fans, who stood by her side during her hiatus due to her injuries and extremly meaningful to her. She didn't wrote the lyrics herself, but she gave the songwriters long letters full of all her thoughts and they turned them into the song! That song is so darn beautiful! My favorite track of the mini album is Why Can't You Love Me? tho! She performed Like Water and Why Can't You Love Me? with a live band for it's live, and she also released a live video of her other title track When This Rain Stops. Like Water and When this Rain stops (also a song from Wendy's solo album ) are songs pertaining to her experiences when she is on her hiatus ( from the most saddening accident ever ). Both songs are comfort both for her and for the fans/people listening to the song. In my opinion, Wendy's solo debut is the most amazing and most meaningful experience I have ever had in my history of listening to music. It's so filled with emotions. Her solo album is byfar my best album of 2021. Such an album full of love.
I completely agree about Wendy coming back with these songs, especially the meaningful part! Wendy went through an absolute nightmare and at first I think NOBODY was certain that she even COULD come back from the injuries; the doctors didn't know for sure so she didn't know for sure. All she could do was try her best to fight through and to heal. The one injury in particular could have completely ended her vocalist career while the rest would have comparatively just been inconveniences. She would still have been able to write music, write lyrics, compose, arrange, but she would not be able to choreograph or dance...just WOW, what this woman went through! And the bigger WOW, that she was able to get back on the horse! In my own opinion, Wendy's recovery is nothing short of MIRACULOUS! I don't even care that it took her a while, the fact that she is back at all completely erases all that time for me! And so when she came back, I nearly broke down. I also teared up a little bit when I explained the entire situation to my Mom, then I had Mom listen to Wendy. Mom LOVES the song Like Water! Wendy is a hero. She's one of my own personal heroes.

As some have said for a next "solo" sub-unit type reaction, Naughty by Irene & Seulgi is iconic for it's amazing choreo, When this Rain stops by Wendy has probably her strongest vocals on the mini-album (very good performance), and Dear Diary by Yeri is a very nice self-written song by an underrated vocal, all 3 worth listening to!
Yeri has a solo song released through sm station called dear diary. She wrote it herself and is a reflection of her 20th year (first year of korean adulthood). Its very pretty and wholesome. Also love that you came around to zimzalabim. Classic red velvet witchcraft at its finest. I dont think its anywhere near my favourite rv song but i do think it does a lot of interesting things. It has an interesting structure that veers off of a traditional pop song to a degree and it has a stellar climax in the final chorus as they sing higher and all of the disparate parts of the production from the different sections are brought together.
She also performed some song live that she wrote. I can't remember what the song was called or how it went (been too long and my memory is crap now) but she told people afterward that she wrote it. She was on some stage and somebody sitting next to her had the guitar. Could be the same song or maybe she wrote something else as well... :)

😂 RJ was NOT ready for the Irene Seulgi subunit! He had to do watch the video twice! I understand dude, SAME. I can’t overstate the pure AWESOMENESS that is this subunit. The chemistry between Irene and Seulgi is palpable and their talent, visuals, and vocals are undeniable. Their styles are so different, yet they complement each other so well. Also the solos by Yeri (Dear Diary which Yeri also wrote), Joy, and Wendy can’t be overlooked. Red Velvet possess Raw Vocals, Real Visuals, and Rare Versatility that other groups just don’t have. There was a lot of doubt whether she was going to come back again, or if she would be the same. She wasn’t in the spotlight until her debut on April 2020, after relearning how to sing and dance again in the year and some months that she was in hiatus (after she recovered) Like Water is a song made from a list she wrote of what she wanted to tell her fans during her hiatus: gratitude, consolation empathy - the message was ‘thank you for believing in me’ When This Rain Stops (MUST listen with lyrics) Is a song to comfort herself. Its ok RJ, we all screamed when we watched monster 😂. the choreography is one of the best I've seen in 2020. It's so satisfying and artistic in terms of imagery and such. You should watch the fancam version! This subunit debut becomes the most successful Kpop female subunit debut. They topped various Korean and international charts and becomes the first subunit to sell more than 100k physical copies! Joy solo is actually a remake from an old song. Her solo debut is basically a remake album of many old (trot) songs. Despite only having a remake album, her solo debut becomes one of the most successful debut this year in Korea. The song was like viral and everywhere for over 3 months even on tiktok😂, (I believe it's still charting until now). Koreans really love Joy and they call her the "tone goddess" for her unique, sweet and distinctive singing voice so that explains her successful debut Wendy solo debut is more towards her experience when she was on hiatus (due to the accident) and her thank you notes towards the people who keep staying beside her thus it holds more personal meaning for fans. She actually prepared it while she was still in the hospital and recovering. While having the idea to make the song, she said she's not good in writing lyrics hence she decided to deliver the ideas of LIKE WATER to the lyricist and let the lyricist express her ideas into writing. LIKE WATER talks about her unconditional love towards everyone around her (you know, water is the most important constituent for all living organisms and water takes every shapes of the container) so it's a message saying how important all of us towards her and how her love is unconditional and full of acceptance. Her solo was actually a bizarre (if you were there lol) with barely promotions from the company, rushed promotion period, understocking album even during pre-order period (which is illogical and unfair since she was hiatus for a LONG TIME but sm can't even give her the bare minimum). All in all, they are all very successful women and has that incredible selling power although they're not moving as a group. I think this is really good cause individual/subunit selling power really shows their longevity and relevancy in the industry since K-pop is actually really competitive (which means, people recognise their talents individually and ready to invest if they be releasing something)

In regards to Monster, I'm personally on the side of the two personas in one body idea. Between the lyrics "Under a single lighting, why are there two shadows?", the fact that they're mirroring each other's moves, and many other hints, I'm sold on it. Regardless of your belief, I just wanted to point out something I felt was intentional and cool. So, the dubstep. From what I can tell, every time Seulgi "gives in" to Irene, the dubstep happens, as to let the listener know that she's "transforming" into the monster herself. The first time it happens is right before she is saying "I don't hate this madness, I'm having fun" The next few times are when they are getting close to each other and also when she's holding Irene, who then reveals her true self. The next big time it happens is when they kiss. Seulgi completely gives in and we hear the most intense instance of dubstep thus far alongside the crazy visual sequence. The next time we hear the dubstep is towards the end when Seulgi is moving into position to finally form the monster she has become. We know this because Seulgi and Irene have switched positions in the "monster" from the beginning of the video. I could be talking out of my ass, but that's been on my mind for a while and I haven't had any time-relevant reactions to get it out of my system. Love what you're doing man! Irene and Seulgi at least temporarily formed a Sub-unit, yes. You might be happy to know that just before Like Water came out for the public, Joy was with Wendy and they both reacted to the final cut of the song. Besides everybody who had worked on it, Joy was the first to get to see the final product. And Joy did the same with Wendy just before the release of Hello. There are reaction videos for both. :)

Yeri has a solo song released through sm station called dear diary. She wrote it herself and is a reflection of her 20th year (first year of korean adulthood). Its very pretty and wholesome.
Also love that you came around to zimzalabim. Classic red velvet witchcraft at its finest. I dont think its anywhere near my favourite rv song but i do think it does a lot of interesting things. It has an interesting structure that veers off of a traditional pop song to a degree and it has a stellar climax in the final chorus as they sing higher and all of the disparate parts of the production from the different sections are brought together.
She also performed some song live that she wrote. I can't remember what the song was called or how it went (been too long and my memory is crap now) but she told people afterward that she wrote it. She was on some stage and somebody sitting next to her had the guitar. Could be the same song or maybe she wrote something else as well... :)
@@jamescurfman3284 oh yeah!!! it was on an episode of her little webseries she had for a while called "Yeri's Room." (i was so sad when the second season got cancelled after it was announced) It was an episode where she performed a few covers as well with her guitar teacher.

😂 RJ was NOT ready for the Irene Seulgi subunit! He had to do watch the video twice! I understand dude, SAME. I can’t overstate the pure AWESOMENESS that is this subunit. The chemistry between Irene and Seulgi is palpable and their talent, visuals, and vocals are undeniable. Their styles are so different, yet they complement each other so well. Also the solos by Yeri (Dear Diary which Yeri also wrote), Joy, and Wendy can’t be overlooked. Red Velvet possess Raw Vocals, Real Visuals, and Rare Versatility that other groups just don’t have. Im not sure if you’ll read this since it’ll be quite lengthy but: if you haven’t already been told by reveluvs, the reason why RV didn’t release music in 2020 is because during Christmas time 2019 during a rehearsal, Wendy had a really life threatening stage accident caused by staff negligence that injured her severely. She broke a lot including her wrist , hip, and cheekbone (her jaw had to be wired shut according to the psycho producer), and was hospitalized for a while.
There was a lot of doubt whether she was going to come back again, or if she would be the same. She wasn’t in the spotlight until her debut on April 2020, after relearning how to sing and dance again in the year and some months that she was in hiatus (after she recovered)
Like Water is a song made from a list she wrote of what she wanted to tell her fans during her hiatus: gratitude, consolation empathy - the message was ‘thank you for believing in me’
When This Rain Stops (MUST listen with lyrics)
Is a song to comfort herself. It’s sort of the most personal out of all her songs in the EP.

Its ok RJ, we all screamed when we watched monster 😂. the choreography is one of the best I've seen in 2020. It's so satisfying and artistic in terms of imagery and such. You should watch the fancam version! This subunit debut becomes the most successful Kpop female subunit debut. They topped various Korean and international charts and becomes the first subunit to sell more than 100k physical copies!
Joy solo is actually a remake from an old song. Her solo debut is basically a remake album of many old (trot) songs. Despite only having a remake album, her solo debut becomes one of the most successful debut this year in Korea. The song was like viral and everywhere for over 3 months even on tiktok😂, (I believe it's still charting until now). Koreans really love Joy and they call her the "tone goddess" for her unique, sweet and distinctive singing voice so that explains her successful debut
Wendy solo debut is more towards her experience when she was on hiatus (due to the accident) and her thank you notes towards the people who keep staying beside her thus it holds more personal meaning for fans. She actually prepared it while she was still in the hospital and recovering. While having the idea to make the song, she said she's not good in writing lyrics hence she decided to deliver the ideas of LIKE WATER to the lyricist and let the lyricist express her ideas into writing. LIKE WATER talks about her unconditional love towards everyone around her (you know, water is the most important constituent for all living organisms and water takes every shapes of the container) so it's a message saying how important all of us towards her and how her love is unconditional and full of acceptance.
Her solo was actually a bizarre (if you were there lol) with barely promotions from the company, rushed promotion period, understocking album even during pre-order period (which is illogical and unfair since she was hiatus for a LONG TIME but sm can't even give her the bare minimum). But she still managed to be listed on top 5 best selling physical albums by Korean female soloists (I believe it's over 200k physical copies). She also topped iTunes album chart and charted #1 in more than 50 countries (was fighting with Justin Bieber that time lmaooo 😂)
Oh, and Yeri does has her own songs. It's called DEAR DIARY (which she wrote herself) It's really good and comforting with very beautiful uplifting messages!!
All in all, they are all very successful women and has that incredible selling power although they're not moving as a group. I think this is really good cause individual/subunit selling power really shows their longevity and relevancy in the industry since K-pop is actually really competitive (which means, people recognise their talents individually and ready to invest if they be releasing something)

In regards to Monster, I'm personally on the side of the two personas in one body idea. Between the lyrics "Under a single lighting, why are there two shadows?", the fact that they're mirroring each other's moves, and many other hints, I'm sold on it. Regardless of your belief, I just wanted to point out something I felt was intentional and cool. So, the dubstep. From what I can tell, every time Seulgi "gives in" to Irene, the dubstep happens, as to let the listener know that she's "transforming" into the monster herself. The first time it happens is right before she is saying "I don't hate this madness, I'm having fun" The next few times are when they are getting close to each other and also when she's holding Irene, who then reveals her true self. The next big time it happens is when they kiss. Seulgi completely gives in and we hear the most intense instance of dubstep thus far alongside the crazy visual sequence. The next time we hear the dubstep is towards the end when Seulgi is moving into position to finally form the monster she has become. We know this because Seulgi and Irene have switched positions in the "monster" from the beginning of the video.
I could be talking out of my ass, but that's been on my mind for a while and I haven't had any time-relevant reactions to get it out of my system.

You might be happy to know that just before Like Water came out for the public, Joy was with Wendy and they both reacted to the final cut of the song. Besides everybody who had worked on it, Joy was the first to get to see the final product.

You should check out joy "hello" album as well... Her solo was extremely successful . one of the most successful song by sm artist this year. Joy is also considered as next big soloist of sm.. since her song was nominated for Daesang (song of the year , album of the year) as well.. (only red velvet member to do so)
