So, the thing is, I used to be able to sing the Queen of the Night when I was younger. As of today, my voice is too low, so I have to sing it to octaves deeper. This demotivated me so much that I quit singing for several years, but then I saw your performance of this aria and it kinda got me back into it. I'm now taking classes again and steadily improving! Thank you a lot for getting me back into singing.
Wow ! That is wonderful ! This is literally the best thing you could ever tell a singer : that it inspired you to sing also. I'm so glad you started singing again ! The point of singing is primarily to have fun and express joy, so I'm really glad for you that you started again. And even if you can't sing this Aria or another, really, don't worry : there is so much music in this world, so many pieces besides these 2 arias ! Find a teacher that respects your voice and encourages you to look to new repertoire 😃 and ... have fun ! Let me know how your progress goes !

oh my!!! brava! the emotion in your eyes and with your voice, you tell the ‘story’ to Tamino so well, and the staccatos at 4:15!!!! absolutely breathtaking, you hit every note and they sound so crystal clear. along with edda moser and diana damrau, you have to be my top three queen of the nights’!
Wow, this has to be one of my favourite staged versions of this aria on TH-cam. Credit should also go to the artistic director: so many Queens of the Night are so menacing and grandiose in their entrance, costume and manner that I find it hard to see Tamino letting his guard down and thinking she is someone he can trust, let alone pity! Here, her sorrow seems far less incongruous and I can actually believe Tamino being seduced by the Queen. And I love that smirk at 4:54, confirming that despite everything, the Queen was still manipulating Tamino all along!

That was exactly was the stage director, Joke Hoolboom, wanted to portray : a woman who has lost her daughter and not an angry, menacing creature. She is desperately and honestly looking for a way to get her daughter back and thinks Tamino could be her chance. Thanks for watching !

Superb acting and singing performance. However, I wonder why so many singers do not stick to the "original" version that says "Auf e-" just before the high f. Does it make singing this aria more difficult?
layardii thank you for your interesting remark. I have never sung the auf ewig version, although it is written like that in the Bärenreiter edition i am using. My guess is, it would indeed make it harder and most conductors try to make it as easy as possible for the singer, so usually let the singer choose. Have you ever heard it sung that way live ?
