I am Thomas at 90. I was lucky and rewarded when in the navy to have sat in front of a very young miss peters when she very young sang bess on broudway. I've sometime forgotten the name but never the wonderful powerful voice.
Las dos arias de la Reina de la Noche son el PINACULO ABSOLUTO del CANTO de toda la Música de todos los tiempos...y Roberta Peters fue una de las REINAS SUPREMAS!!!!!!!
The way Ms Peters holds that high F is remarkable. Most other singers barely touch it, not risking anything and saving the stamina for the next aria. She is unsurpassed in my opinion. Thanks so much for uploading.
Roberta Peters was my first Queen of the Night at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1967. I was too young and inexperienced to realize I was hearing one of the best.
Such a lung popping song to sing. Amazing. Absolutely perfect. Her costume is so restraining it seems she cant move but I am so in love with the sound of her voice. Sweet but powerful. Thanks for posting.
She is phenomenal with breath control, use of language and tone to create a mood, and technique. And not to be nitpicky, but there is one odd sound right around 4:07-4:08. But one of the best I've ever heard.
I love how her a vowel sounds. Strong reminder of Edda Moser. A clear, open a sound. Amazing. Edda Moser will remain my absolute favorite in this role. But Roberta Peters is very interesting. Like deutekom. She was somehow weird in her coloratura but it had something amazing to it.
I also revere Edda Moser as the greatest Königin der Nacht. Peters, however does a creditable job with a totally different type of voice: lyric coloratura as against the more dramatic weight of Moser. And don't forget: Peters was good enough for the great Karl Böhm to cast her in his 1964 Berlin recording of Die Zauberflöte!
@@jasonhurd4379 Hi Jason! Long time no chat! 😉 And again, you and I are in 100% agreement. Moser is my #1 QOTN as well, as I much prefer a dramatic coloratura in the role. That being said, I would say that as far as Lyric Coloraturas in the role are concerned, Roberta Peters is definitely my first choice! Although her voice is still quite light for the role she still was able to add an extra "ping" to the sound to give it the strength, power, and clarity it needed! Almost making the voice seem bigger than it normally did. (We may have discussed this previously, but I figure it's always worth saying again! Lol!) Take care, my friend!
La soprano coloratura de los años 50 y 60. Gran triunfadora del MET. hay que poseer sus grabaciones de Rigoletto, Lucía di Lammermoor, Flauta Mágica, Barbero de Sevilla, etc.
The Queen of the Night really calls for a Dramatic Coloratura, like Edda Moser, rather than a lyric coloratura, which is what we normally hear. That being said, of all the lyric coloraturas we normally hear in this role, to this day I still say Roberta Peters was by far the best.
Have you taken into consideration the directions of the stage director? Luisa Tetrazzini was not nearly as astute in this repertoire as Peters and she was altogether a different type of coloratura.

@@vassilisvouris6269 Hempel admittedly was better in this reportoire than either Peters or Tetrazzini, although in terms of vocal mechanics, they are all healthy. ^_^ I would recommend also Deutekom.
Roberta odličen glas.Bravissimo!!❤❤❤😊😊😊
Best Queen of the Night EVER!!!!!!

Exactly! She not only hits it, she owns it
She is the best ever Queen of the Night, in my opinion!

By far the best coloratura soprano of all times !!! Unbelievable !!!!! A miracle !!!!!!
and in a "live" performance....!!!!!
The BEST Queen of the Night, ever!
Yess....
Indeed !!!! the best of ALL !!!!!
Perfect!!Bravo, Roberta!❤
Roberta was the Queen of the Night! Fabulous artiste....
Ho sempre ammirato la Peters....magnifi!!
stupendous
That was wonderful!
Great interpretation of this aria and also the 2nd act aria. She was one of the best singers technically and musically of this most difficult role.

Una delle più grandi in questo ruolo

Great job, Roberta!
I'm speechless.
EPIC!
Bravo Peters! I saw her onstage a few times in New York and Florida; not a big voice, but very accurate and artistic.
I saw her in Florida at 69 doing a recital of every coloratura aria ever. Not Queen of the Night, but for 69 she still had high Ds!!!!
BRAVISSIMO!

@Barone Vitellio Scarpia I love Deutekom too. But the technique she used for the coloratura passages in the Queen of the Night sounded strange to me.
Well what do you guys think of Lucia Popp's version ?!
I find it the best technically
@@ahmedzenati2537 It indeed was beautiful and technically precise. I just prefer a heavier voice for the role, which is very rare to find.
... omg
Where? When? The cast?
Salzburg 1964, Istvan Kertesz conducting the VPO. Tamino Waldemar Kmentt, Pamina Pilar Lorengar.
Last coloratura sopran?
Not a patch on Deutekom.
In my view no one is.

Her acting is non-existent - not nearly as good as Luisa Tetrazzini, Frieda Hempel, Antonina Nezhandova, or Marcella Sembrich, to say the least.
Thumbs down to arm chair critics like you.
Did you see all of them on stage?? You lucky boy...🤗
