Thanks for visiting us! 😃 For the next travel in Peru you should visit the north cost (north cost of Peru is the origin of Ceviche dish) in sides like Chan Chan (an old city similar to Atlantida because everything there are monuments of the sea 🌊), Lord of Sipan (Richest tomb in America), Kuelap (an old city similar to Machu Picchu), Gocta waterfall, the Amazon Rainforest and Amazon River, and tropical beaches as Máncora, Cabo Blanco (Ernest Hemingway called this beach "Fishing Land" and this place was inspired to write his novel "The Old Man and the Sea"), Punta Sal and Sechura desert 🏜 where there are a lot Flamencos, the Lake Titicaca and the most beautiful train in the Andes called Belmont that connect Cusco - Puno - Arequipa, Caral (oldest city in America), Callao (In islands of Callao 🏝 there are penguins 🐧), Huayco (important side where rescate birds like Condors and Harpy Eagles 🦅) and UNMSM in Lima (oldest University in America).

The lama 🦙scale was awesome. Most people that travel to Peru stay for only 4 days or a week, but it seems that you have stayed at least 4 weeks to make such an informative and fun video of Peruvian cuisine. You are right, there are gastronomical tours. People from Santiago, Chile and Bogota, Colombia fly to Lima for gastronomic tours. I hope that in your next trip to Peru you can come to eat at Central and Maido, some of the best restaurants in the world. You might also want to explore regional cuisines from the north coast of Peru, Arequipa or food from the Amazon region.

Sometimes getting your head around cuisine that isn't traditional to your home can be hard, but great job stepping out of your comfort zone to try those dishes. I really like seeing the initial reaction as you guys try something but also the information about the dish.

You know guys, if you count the total of main dishes at Perú, the total of soups and the total of desserts you wild have a total of around 3500 traditional dishes. This means if you eat just one peruvian recipe at day, you will take around 10 years to try them all. Thats why I think a 10 top is kind unfair here. Just to mention 4 of them I wished you tried other recipes as the PARIHUELA, the COSTILLAR DORADO AREQUIPEÑO, the TACU TACU,and maybe one of the older ones the PACHAMANCA (this one is traditionally cooked under the floor with heated rocks).

Go north beaches like Piura, go to the jungle like Iquitos, go to the sierras like Churin or Urubamba, even go to Pozuzo for German food!. Its really insane and im a Portland native and apparently the food here is really good? But aint nada compared to some ceviche over a sunset in Barranco!!! Let me correct you guys
Cuy or guinea pig is not a normal dish in peruvian cuisine
Its a typical dish from Andes and it was brought to Lima in some restaurants because there is strong inmigration of people from Andes in LIma but definetely its not a dish in peruvians table
I never tried, my family neither, my friends neither, we are not planning to try it
And its a lie or some local people lied to you because they probably love that dish or they are from Andes and try to promote internationally that dish but again, its not a national dish, Huge numbers of peruvians dislike that dish and easy to prove what i said is you can walk any street in LIma and it wont easy to find a restaurant offering cuy or guinea pig but sure, there are restaurants who offer cuy spreaded in parts of Lima but there are very few
Please, do not say its a national dish or its normal dish in peruvians because is not at all. Im sorry but i should make the correction. Cheers

Hey there, thanks for sharing your experience with us. It sounds like your comment is referring to how common cuy is in Lima, specifically. We noticed that it was definitely less popular in Lima and was really only sold at touristy restaurants in Lima, however in the Andes region of Peru we found it to be quite easy to find. Our friends who grew up in the small communities near Cusco told us many stories about how commonly they ate cuy both as children and now, in adulthood. They even shared with us their stories of their families having small cuy farms in their homes so they could raise their own cuy to eat. One of the things we loved about Peruvian cuisine is how different the dishes can be depending on where you are in Peru, and it sounds like you have had this experience as well.

@@nicoleandmico Excactly is dish original from the Andes, If you go to the Jungle, the Amazons, you won't find cuy or rarely some but in Jungle provinces there is other food, same as in the Coast where mainly dishes are seafood and comida "criolla". In other word cuy is a dish from Andes, not a national dish
Ok, to be a bit clear, when peruvian food got more in the international attention, the dishes most common to show to the world was ceviche , lomo saltado and other popular dishes, The cuy never were considerated , non even mentioned, So most people from Andes tried to introduce the cuy as an alternative but also wrongly saying is a popular dish when its not. its very common in their provinces. Why im very concern to explian this point? because most peruvians are pet lovers and most of us dont tolerate this dish, even we can respet the Andes customes but its a dish from Andes , not a peruvian national dish, thats not correct and it hurts really hurts with people who love pets.

Just a little info, as its a national dish, you can find it in all peruvian restaurants but it will depend in what kind of restaurants, most expensive restaurants use better beef cuts, tender and juicy meat. medium restaurants use regular acceptable meat and general restaurants use any part of beef but maybe both of you didnt choose the right restaurant. No se ven buenos el cebiche ni el lomo saltado, hay que ver donde los consumen para tener una buena experiencia. Soy peruano y no me gustó como se veía ese lomo saltado, es un plato delicioso.

Yes we look forward to visiting the Peruvian Amazon one day! We were also in Mancora (beautiful area!) and loved every minute of the beach and sun there. Thank you for the food suggestions too. We know we didn't eat it all but we are glad to have tried so many. I guess this means we will have to come back and try a whole new set of food next time! 😋

she's so wrong about the lomo saltado,is not about the meat,is all around the dish, the way is cooked, the tradition of the dish, for her is all about the meat,Argentina has the best meat and even they say their lomo compare to peruvian lomo saltado is day and night, being the peruvian the most authentic, rich, delicious!

Would be interesting to know where you guys ate and are basing your reviews off of. It's hard to trust trip advisor and google since i've heared from other reviewers that the highest reviewed spots have been a huge letdown many times. All Peru needs to be great is a trusted source of information and what better than a couple of honest Canadians to help with that haha, nice video.

the ceviche looked so dry, the lomo chunks are way to big and the fries too, also, all the places looks like tourist traps and it reflects on the images you showed, also, the cuy is a dish to try on the Andes, Cusco of you go to Machu Picchu, but in Lima, you have really have to know where to get and it's usually little holes in the wall that only locals of the neighborhood knows about, I never eat cuy in Lima because I don't like it there, but when in Cusco, Arequipa, Cajamarca, it's so good, the difference is really big

I went to a "mercado gastronomico" called Mercado 28 two weeks ago to try a new experience and it was a Bad one. Ceviche had literally 0 juice and I ordered 2 in different stands. I absolutly don't recommend going to one of them to try peruvian food for the first time.

You should know that Peruvian gastronomy has Inca, Spanish, African, Japanese, Chinese, Italian and French influences. The exquisiteness of Peruvian food and what makes it the winner of the best gastronomic destination are its fusions and the quality of its natural ingredients. Advice go to good restaurants, if you want to try good food, travel with money.

Pisco is the national drink of Perú; with pisco you can prepare many drinks like pisco sour, machu pichu, chilcano and others. We use pisco for cooking lomo saltado, is a little secret.

ceviche isnt my favorite dish as i dont like sushi. that lomo saltado looks horrible i have never seen it prepared that way. chaufa in peru is the bomb! 6 years and i still havent tried cuy just cant do it. picarones are really good cheap street food snack. aji gallina is a good dish. the market is the best place to get the freshest foods you will ever eat just pay attention to the cleanes of the vendor. anticcuchos are good its not chewy and tastes like steak the ones on the street are the best. you can not go wrong with a pisco sour delecious basically everywhere. you should have mentioned causa. good vid guys
