Count me in also.........but my trade is an Electrical Fitter so that's my excuse ! I got a question though.....what happens if your top car leaks / drips oil ?
Certain pigments are more expensive. Reds and Yellows happen to be toward the top, at least in automotive applications, but I'm not sure why it would warrant a $300 premium in this application. Machinery grade paint I would think would be the norm for something like this.
A very good walk around of the hoist and explanation of why you chose it. The other drawbacks with a 2 post lift that you didn't touch on are: 1. The limited access getting in and out of the car when it's raised up because the posts are within a foot of the doors on Both sides and 2. A 10ft ceiling really isn't high enough to adequately raise the vehicle to an acceptable height to get under it without walking around like Quasimodo.
I was actually preparing a presentation for my Cisco networking class before I watched this. Completely thought he would connect a network cable to the jack.
Nah Freddy should get a new garage door opener. One that has the capability to open with an app from his smart phone, my family has one & it's awesome.
Thanks for the tour! Thinking of getting one of these and you actually answered all my most important questions - virtually in the order in which I was thinking them ! I appreciate the work people put into creating TH-cam vids. Yours is great.
Wait... it's not even bolted down or attached to the ground or walls, just standing there? What was the $800 "install charge" for? Is it like paying some guys $800 to put together your Ikea furniture & plug it in?
As an automobile mechanic I can understand the want of a four post lift. A four post lift is great for storage but a pain in the ass for working on the car. even with a center lift to lift the wheels off the the runways, working around the tires and suspension is a pain because the runways get in the way of working on the suspension. Better off just buying a 2 post to begin with. They cost less and make it easier to work on every part of the car while still allowing a second car to be stored underneath. Still gave your video a thumbs up but if you would have asked a mechanic first he would have steered you to a 2 post. Even with an engine and transmission out a 2 post hold a car in a very stable manner.
You said that this garage door opener didn't come with a number pad. You can purchase one on amazon for like $30 and program it in less than 5min. Hope that helps
4 post lifts look a lot more stable than 2 posts, distributes weight better, good call. I dont think I'd really worry about bolting it down, I don't think its going anywhere haha. Is it a pain moving the benz in and out and then lowering the vantage every time you want to drive it? I guess I'm impatient I just wanna walk out, get in & drive!
headcas620 easy, grab an E46 one. I'm not sure if that Aston uses the rear windshield for the radio antenna though and the roof antenna for cellular use
If it can be moved outside you can also use it out there, if it will go under the door. As a retired mechanic I preferred the two post lifts for most things. They are pretty safe if you know how to use them.
The Merc is missing a side mirror and some other stuff. OBVIOUSLY he is currently working on the car or it's a project car of some sort and that is why it's in the garage. You people are overthinking this.
Just in case you do decide to drill it into the concrete (which I think you should) the concrete can be tasted by having a small piece core tested which is very common and easy.
Cut him some slack. English is obviously not his native language. The Spanish word for "testing" is "probar", which also means to taste. What he did was provide a literal translation (taste) instead of a transliteration (test). Or perhaps I'm overthinking this way too much and it was just a typo lol.
You missed the most important diff between 2 post and 4 post. Car storage. When I built my over sized garage I had the floor reinforced to anchor a 2 post lift. But now researching lifts to install I learn it's not recommended to store a car on a 2 post lift because the suspension will not be under load and that could mess up the springs. I never even thought of that when specing my garage. So I may be going 4 post now. To store my Caterham during the winter.
Hey how are those craftsman tools treating you? I was thinking of getting the 411pc. mechanic set. They seem like decent tools for the money. I'm not spending the ungodly amount of money to buy Snap On, MAC or Matco.
Check out the 301 pc Professional Mechanics Tool Set from Harbor Freight (GASP!). It goes on sale for $160. Very nice quality, fine tooth ratchets, 6-point sockets (12-point are rarely needed, I only encountered three times). I have old USA craftsman and SK. These HF ones are just as good IMO.
Now only thing my building has heated floors and I would want it mollie'd into the ground I wonder if they have the thing to check through the concrete so they do not go to through my heating elements in the floor please comment back thank you
Awesome review, I've been watching these for quite some time, clearance issues is a common 'concern' for many of us in the market, this helped a lot. Thanks a bunch.
I recently had a garage built at my new place and got a 4 post atlas lift. The height floor to ceiling is 12ft 6in, along with a high lift door track and wall opener (have the lift master 8500 also and it came with a keypad remote) will allow me to put a large SUV or truck in the air and be able to stand up under it. Depends on your garage and what you will be lifting. If you have a 10ft ceiling and a Ford Gt40, Delorean, etc you'll be fine. Otherwise if you want to stand under or park another car under it 11-12ft would be ideal. Mine is not bolted to the floor either and it really doesn't move at all. It runs on 110v power and they recommend a 30 amp breaker. The motor is 15 amps but in the colder weather it was blowing my 20 amp.
If you can find out the actual weight of the dually, maybe putting casters on the lift would allow you to take it outside and lift that too. (Now that I've thought it through maybe it's too wide, but if it isn't, you should look into it)
My garage has only an 8 foot ceiling so I had to put a two post lift outside. Drilled two 24 inch holes with Bobcat and filled with concrete and spiral rebar with threaded 3/4 J bolts. Got lift from garage that was being demolished for CVS. Total expenditure less than 500 dollars and now two of my Chargers have a home under a carport.
It is definitely possibly for a car to get imbalanced after the removal of an engine in a two post but they make a stand that you can put underneath the rear of the car that doesn't allow it to tilt back. I've never seen engine removals be a problem with two posts but it does get sketchy sometimes
RE: 2 post v. 4 post lifts . The four post allows easier access to the lower car without having to worry about clearance between the central post and the car door.
I have a 2 lift at rear garage and its a life changer.... I will be getting a 4 post for front garage to use it just like you... yes 2 post is versatile yet 4 post has all those benefits you just mentioned... I will like to add to that that for storing cars 4 post is a must... long periods of time car hold on at the chassis is bad for the frame and not so good for suspension hanging there... cars were Not designed for that...
I ordered one. Thanks for the video. Can you tell me what you’ve done with your electrical outlets so that it works? I know it needs to draw to 220v. I’m trying to save since I ploughed allot of $$ already.
I'm a little late to watch this but better late than never. Gave me some great ideas for when the time comes and that's all thanks to you, great video!
I use to be in the equipment rental business, When I got done with it I sold a lot of inventory but I got stuck with a few big fork lifts, I still tinker in the shop and 12 ton long reach forklifts pick up 1 ton pu LOL
I've got a 4 post and a 2 post. I find it a pain in the ass to work under the 4 post. I use the 4 post for storage and the 2 post for maintenance. I'd suggest a 2 post for anyone who wants a lift in their garage. more versatile.....
Totally agree. I'm a professional mechanic and the only time I use a four post is for alignments. And some vans/ SUV's with running boards. I personally hate working on a four post. Very limited and you bash your head on the ramps and jacks
I disagree. As much as I would love to assemble the lift, I wouldn't want to spend a minute working on a vehicle. I guess the opposite is true for Tavarish....or possibly he just doesn't have time for some things.
Most likely because, when you're riding your penny board, you're having fun. Driving, for most people, is a chore. Plus maintenance on a skateboard is a lot cheaper than on a car.
I do have a question though. Since this was 5 years ago and you have had some use on it. Would you have done anything differently? Any advice. Been considering this for a long time and trying to be aware of things before planning a garage build. Appreciate it thanks in advance.
I have one question because I'm thinking about buying the same left can you lock the lift into position without the you know the motor is there any kind of slide through bolts that can lock the lift where you want it so in case you're storing it for a long. Of time nothing can fail cuz the bolts are there to hold it to
I find it strange that you do all that work on various cars but chose to spend $800 (!) to have someone assemble the lift for you. When you said you paid for installation I figured that included them anchoring it to the slab.... but its free-standing. How long did it take them to put it together for that much money?
A lot of good information. Many thanks. When my Horse Barn is finished (40X45 ft, 5" reinforced concrete floor, 12X10 ft roll-up door) I do plan to install a lift similar to yours. Bolted to the floor in the center of the barn at the rear wall.
I got a Danmar 7000lb. lift with oil drip pans, sliding jack tray for using jacks or stands, and casters that fold down so I can move it around. Works great. $2600.
Very specific scenario BUT what if you were to have a vehicle that you needed to take the engine out from the bottom? It would most likely be too wide to fit between the rails of the lift. Is that a situation you have considered, or is that not an issue in your case?
If you have an automatic transmission on the car on top it would always be best to use that catch pan so any transmission fluid leaks don't damage your paint on the bottom car.
questions, this looks great but does city allow you to put the whole lift in your garage and does their code allow you to install this ? Permit needed?
how secure are these lifts though, could the lift potentially fail and bleed down, is there any type of mechanical safety involved, looks cool but I'd be afraid of leaving a car unattended like that over night or over the weekend
Thanks for the information. I'm getting married soon and will be going from my two car garage to having to share a garage. This gives me an idea how to fit my Vettes into one bay.
not unless the company gives you an insurance that it is ok not to bolt down the post to the concrete floor then go ahead, don't bolt it down. But in my opinion, all car lifts MUST BE BOLTED DOWN TO CONCRETE FOR SAFETY ISSUES!!!
i've always worked with a two post lift and i always check to make sure the car is stable in the air before i continue to lift and i've never a problem with a car falling, I actually prefer working with a 2 post lift
Love the lift. On an unrelated note, you mentioned that because demand is so high, installers can charge whatever they want. The higher the demand is for something, the lower the price goes.
+iLikeC00kieDough I think you're thinking about supply. Demand means that people want it. If supply stays the same but demand rises, prices rise. That's how things with limited production numbers appreciate in value.
there simple to put together, anyone can put it together.... take it from me bolt it to the floor with minimum 2 bolts per leg, do not use studs, use the concrete nut inserts 7/8", it don't mater how thick the concert is, just know were your in floor heating lines are, there easy to locate, by using the concrete nut inserts. you can take the bolts out and move it, then when you move it back just line up the concert nut inserts and put the bolds back in, if you want a 2 post lift, and only have a statured slab core floor, there only 2" thick, but you can put a 2 post in, mark out were each post will go, and cut your concert 2 feet x 2 feet, and remove it, dig it out 4 feet deep keeping the dirt sides smooth, put in 4 , 1/2" rebar's but make sure they will not be in the way were you will later drill your holes for the 7/8 nuts inserts. fill with minimum 90,000 LBS concert and level. smooth..
Looks good man. I have been looking at getting a lift but my ceiling isn't quite tall enough. Also have the same opener as you. LiftMaster does make a keypad opener that works with the 8500. I have it but it did not come with the 8500. Had to buy it separately.
It would be nice to see a multilevel stand with a side elevator. So you can have several cars taking up little more ground space than one. Or two, depending on the lift design.
Awesome man. Wish I had the skills and means to do that. Does your wifes car still fit next to the lift and can you still get in the passenger side when it is there?
The "cool factor" of having a lift is nice, but for the money he spent on modifying the garage door (hardware and opener) plus raising the ceiling, then purchasing the lift, he could have built an addition on the garage to store another car. The new addition can be planned so the cement slab has the proper thickness, enough steel for strength, (upgrade to a 2-post lift?) enough walk-around space to actually work on the car... AND... a high enough roof to raise a full size car to a decent height without clearance issues. That said, a 4 post ramp lift is the cheaper / faster route to more storage in existing space. BTW, the "installation fee" also includes assembly. Bolting it to the floor only takes an hour or two with the right tools, but does keep in in one place should you bump into a post with your other car, rider mower, etc.
I'm such a nerd that when you said "RJ-45 jack" I was thinking the post was network enabled and "smart" 😅😅😅
Exactly what I thought haha.
So glad I'm not the only one.
Count me in also.........but my trade is an Electrical Fitter so that's my excuse ! I got a question though.....what happens if your top car leaks / drips oil ?
0ttoman That's the first thing I thought of too. I spent years running network cable day in day out.
since I am a real nerd I feel like you need to know that saying "RJ-45 jack" is stupid, since RJ stands for "registered jack"...
Wait, what, they charge an extra $300 to refill the paint gun with red paint?
that avatar is an appropriate expression for the 'wait, whut' question... lol
Indeed,,,lol
Supply and demand, the majority will be blue.
Not surprised to see a $300 price difference, but I am surprised anybody would pay it.
Certain pigments are more expensive. Reds and Yellows happen to be toward the top, at least in automotive applications, but I'm not sure why it would warrant a $300 premium in this application. Machinery grade paint I would think would be the norm for something like this.

not if you buy a forward lift
Do you think you'll clean the headlights on the s class?
naaa, he would have to take the other car off of the lift in order to do that
haha yeah true..
+Bryan Martin Bit rude is it no?
rokkorex cjftjfgnfjg
"RJ-45 Jack"
Were any other IT guys confused for a second? xD
It guys and many computer nerds thought it might be a smart lift.. : )
Jordan Mammoliti I was like why does he have a smart jack on his car lift?
In my head I was like “No way this lift has ethernet”
@@dolphns8204 rofl😆
I was actually preparing a presentation for my Cisco networking class before I watched this. Completely thought he would connect a network cable to the jack.
wait, u paid for installation and they did not bolt it down?
Exactly my point. That's not installation fee - that's unpacking/assembly fee.
It is odd but it isn't as though the lift is going to move with 3,600+ lb pushing down on it and a concrete lip directly behind it.
Russell Robinson j
It would take about 90 mins to use a hammer drill and install a couple concrete fasteners at each corner.
U peoples r missing the concept of this lift, it is movable, therefore u would not want to bolt it down

No matter how wealthy you are you have that jack from Harbor Freight.
I like how when he titles how much things cost, he actually tells you how much it costs.
Hell of a lot cheaper then building onto a garage! Defenitly a cost affective alternative. Great video, thank you!
Yeah have my shitbox leak oil onto my other shitbox.
Where do buy one of these lifts?
What did it cost to ship it?
Who set it up for you?
1marcelfilms So hard to install a pan under it...smh fucking knob
They do come with a drip pan so one car is not pissing on the other
Can you park a car on the side to make it a 3 car garage?
yup, that's the idea!
Nah Freddy should get a new garage door opener. One that has the capability to open with an app from his smart phone, my family has one & it's awesome.
Or put another one next to it, and bam, 4 car garage
there better be no oil leaks in the top car, to drip on the lower car!
they make drip trays that fit in the channel and it looks like he has one.
Thanks for the tour! Thinking of getting one of these and you actually answered all my most important questions - virtually in the order in which I was thinking them ! I appreciate the work people put into creating TH-cam vids. Yours is great.
Thank you for the tour. My four year old son thinks it is really cool.
My thirty year old self thinks this is really cool.
my 56 year old dad thinks this is cool!
Well then it is settled. This is cool.
boofighter im in the womb and i think this is cool
Anmol S
So your mom has installed a little porthole for you to watch? Or she swallowed a phone?
Wait... it's not even bolted down or attached to the ground or walls, just standing there? What was the $800 "install charge" for? Is it like paying some guys $800 to put together your Ikea furniture & plug it in?
This young man has his shit together
I thought so too, Seems to have a good personality. Video is informative.
you don't need to bolt down 4 post lifts. they're made to be moved.
Big Heaf his mom's
As an automobile mechanic I can understand the want of a four post lift. Conor Marzec I was going to make the same comment. I just had to program a couple remotes last weekend, a lot easier than it used to be.
Can you make a garage tour?
Sure
headcas620 easy, grab an E46 one.
What is the purpose of the jack on the rollers? Is it to have the ability to remove the wheels once the car is already on the lift?
Elisi Camost exactly.
Or tranny, or differential, or engine, or exhaust.
But yeah, mostly wheel work.
Realize that this lift was installed 6 or so years ago, but where can you find this lift for the price point you paid? Thanks
Semi related question: would you ever extend the garage or build another one where you park your Lexus' now?
Brandon B yeah. building a garage behind the house later this year.
Excellent reasoning for getting a 4 post lift. Not having to worry about a car falling on you is definitely a good thing.
2900 dollars was WAY below my guess. Nice.
Sweetness! I just decided to buy a 4-post lift for most of the same reasons you did. I might do some videos about it too.
plan your garage before buying too many cars? also £4k lift to keep a £2k merc in a garage?
Adam Jones he could have a $100k Porsche around the corner, we don't know. We only know what he shows us.
well then this is kinda pointless isn't it, to keep the 100k porsche around the corner and the old Merc in there?
The Merc is missing a side mirror and some other stuff. OBVIOUSLY he is currently working on the car or it's a project car of some sort and that is why it's in the garage. You people are overthinking this.
Where the hell can you get a $2k mercedes? Even used.. in that condition? My 2000 olds alero cost more than that.
bugs181 if you buy a car as a project you can pick them up pretty cheap.
Great idea - however, I did not see any bolts holding it to the garage floor did I miss them or is it free standing?
Just in case you do decide to drill it into the concrete (which I think you should) the concrete can be tasted by having a small piece core tested which is very common and easy.

What's a good brand of tool to get that compete with Craftsman's price?
Thanks for replying! Do you have the ratchets as well? If so, how are they holding up? The guy below me here is saying to stay away.
Pretty much any of the mainstream tool brands....and most of them have lifetime warranty now.
Check out the 301 pc Professional Mechanics Tool Set from Harbor Freight

How often do you adjust the alignment of the cable mechanisms at all 4 points to ensure they are all in sync when operating?
Awesome review, I've been watching these for quite some time, clearance issues is a common 'concern' for many of us in the market, this helped a lot. Thanks a bunch.
A POV of you driving your Aston would be so awesome!!
armani700411 I had a ride in one not too long ago. It is an amazing experience and I'd love to see that
Great job. I don't know why so many people are crying about anchors. You could put some wedge anchors in pretty easily.
OMFG! I have never scene or considered putting one of these in my home garage. brilliant! I want one!
before you install one of those in your garage you have to learn one thing...it is not "scene" instead it is "seen"
,,... 360°
an RJ45 jack is the standard name for Ethernet jack for your computer....
Thanks for answering questions on cost I figured about $5k for one installed at my place so good to know it's realistic.

How hot does it get up top of the lift in Florida? The heat wouldn't be too good for long term storage.

How many inches is your concrete floor? And do you believe it is thick enough to hold that weight for a long time?

Is it structurally safe to notch the ceiling like that? I was told you aren't supposed to cut the triangle trusses once the roof has been assembled.
put the s500 in winter mode with the raise car button ...will it touch?
Thanks, wasn't expecting a Jalop dude when I was searching for home lifts.
What size garage do you have? Is the other side of the garage enough to part another car?
Main question, does the lift lock in place to stop it going down?
Nice. Really frees up a lot of floor space.
Concrete garage floors are a minimum four inches thick. It's safe to drill your floor to bolt your lift down. BTW nice lift and sweet Aston on top!
If you have an automatic transmission on the car on top it would always be best to use that catch pan so any transmission fluid leaks don't damage your paint on the bottom car.
Nice video. Thanks. Will the 4 post work on a small tractor?
Is it used to store small tractors? Is it correct?
I had no idea this even existed
Awesome!
questions, this looks great but does city allow you to put the whole lift in your garage and does their code allow you to install this ? Permit needed?
how secure are these lifts though, could the lift potentially fail and bleed down, is there any type of mechanical safety involved, looks cool but I'd be afraid of leaving a car unattended like that over night or over the weekend
Thanks for the information. I'm getting married soon and will be going from my two car garage to having to share a garage. This gives me an idea how to fit my Vettes into one bay.
What is model nbr of the compressor (and after 4 years is it still working)? Also did you have the 2 kill switches installed?
Tavarish, you ever consider being a teacher? you are very good.
Does it have any built-in safety features? I would hate to be underneath it changing my oil and then becoming a pancake.
not unless the company gives you an insurance that it is ok not to bolt down the post to the concrete floor then go ahead, don't bolt it down.
Tavarish hey thanks for the reply. isn’t supply going to go up to meet the rising demand though?
+iLikeC00kieDough not necessarily, especially when you're talking about a service.
there simple to put together, anyone can put it together.... take it from me bolt it to the floor with minimum 2 bolts per leg, do not use studs, use the concrete nut inserts 7/8", it don't mater how thick the concert is, just know were your in floor heating lines are, there easy to locate, by using the concrete nut inserts. you can take the bolts out and move it, then when you move it back just line up the concert nut inserts and put the bolds back in, if you want a 2 post lift, and only have a statured slab core floor, there only 2" thick, but you can put a 2 post in, mark out were each post will go, and cut your concert 2 feet x 2 feet, and remove it, dig it out 4 feet deep keeping the dirt sides smooth, put in 4 , 1/2" rebar's but make sure they will not be in the way were you will later drill your holes for the 7/8 nuts inserts. fill with minimum 90,000 LBS concert and level. smooth..
Awesome. Another creative cheaper way to make things work. I love how you guys think outside the box. .
This was great informational video...I watched both of them on this lift...Audio and video quality was perfect.
I am not much of a wrench head, but this was a great video...nice to stumble on such a good channel!
Do you find it's a hassle of moving out the bottom car if you want to drive the top one?
Did you have the ceiling custom cut for the extra headroom above the Aston?
Awesome man. Wish I had the skills and means to do that. Does your wifes car still fit next to the lift and can you still get in the passenger side when it is there?
yea I agree with the safety of having a 4 post especially when working alone 👍
what garage door do you have? Mine would get in the way.
Love your video and love the jack. I cant wait until i can afford to do something like this for myself!
hey tav - quick question can you park 3 cars in your garage now? I see a partial raised part of your floor so I wasn't sure.
What is the size of the garage please ?
So do you have enough room to park a car next to the lift? Or is it still a 2 car garage ?
Thanks, that was a very useful video and answered all my questions.
Hey mate. looking for a lift for my new home. what is your meassurment from floor to your ceiling?
sorry did type before i watched the hole vid
My question is (please excuse if you answered already) these lifts are not useful if you're removing say a strut. How do you do that?
I'm in complete alignment with your logic on lift(s). Great video.
