Super looking piece of kit. You were making me gringe using an impact driver for the electrical terminals, overtighten them, strip the threads and your done. If your not using a mechanical screwdriver I would suggest a small drill driver with variable torque settings .... better safe than sorry.
That is an AWESOME upgrade! Well done Fogstar! 🎉🎉🎉. Great install Ian, I hope it serves you well! Looking forward to seeing it in action and in the new house! 😋
Wonderful video! And I want to thank you for the nice musical interlude and pan of the scenery. It's always good to look around and see the beautiful landscape. Keep up the progress and cheers from the USA ♥
Nice upgrade, this should hold a while, over 15 Kwh is a nice size. I have a 10 in our house and it is perfect in the summer but in the winter, more electricity used, it doesn't hold out until morning. Thanks guys, take care 👍💪✌
We have 5 Kwh at our current house and it barely lasts till morning, but now I can add the other 5kwh and see what happens. the 15 kph has not charged up fully yet, 3 days so far 😬
@HomesteadingUncontained hello thanks very much for the reply . I just looked them up and sent a email . I know they are closed for Christmas. Unreal price . I'm trying to find out if this would be compatible with a sungrow SH5.0RS.5000W invertor
@@Tony-fl3rl I was surprised at the price as my current Plyontech batteries cost around €600 so that would be 6 to get to the same power plus a much sleeker unit than the bulk of a rack etc.
What an awesome company...I running 280ah Eve cells and a JK bms from them in my 14.3kwh diy battery. I messed up fitting the 3.6 Ecco though, should have gone 5.5 at a minimum.
Congratulations on your upgrade! I'm just waiting for mine to start; I've had a 2.8kwp solar system since 2011 but in January I'm getting two 11kwp arrays and a 12kw Inverter with 32kwh of battery storage (upgradable to 48kwh). I hope that will be an end to my electricity bills!
@@davidianwalsh i am going to assume that the 22kw of solar vs the 12kw inverter is oversizing for winter time? Or am i missing something here as its not really my area of "expertise" Anyway best of luck with the system, and i hope you'll do fine without further upgrades
My plan for the house is around 10kw of panels and they will face proper south. But it will be a while yet, so really loving the extra battery storage on the 3kw I have at the moment.
Ian you did a fantastic job on this install, clearly explaining everything for those shopping for this type of gear. You are now in business to get that build happening. (I love the bit you ran on Julie re fully charged batteried are too heavy to ship!!! Lol)
@@dougtravins9624 thing is that if you really want to get down to it a charged battery is heavier than an empty one, but you are talking such small differences that you could consider it purely theoretical... To use a completely useless analogue, for a phone battery the difference between a fully charged vs a dead one is about the weight of a red blood cell (around 10-¹³kg) for an EV we may be talking a picogram (or one trillionth of a gram)
Another great video. A little surprised that your OCD iet you fit the cables with NO rubber grommets !!, yes I know your conduit / trunking is plastic but the cables are still open to damage. With regard to the rally car I always had trouble with the sump gasket being in four pieces and lying on my back with the the car on small car ramps I had leaks at the joins!!
That SunSynk inverter is a rebranded Deye, it's a good one for on/off grid systems. I think you can also use the generator input to connect solar panels that have their own inverter
Ian I think a strap attached to the wall each end to prevent the frogstar falling over might be a sensible move, it do look a bit knock overable to my eye.
I encountered the same issue with the sunsynk mounting, needs a rethink by the designer, Even with extra screws mine is drooping forward slightly. Otherwise an excellent product
Fogstar??? I immediately thought 'Frog Star' (From the Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy).....but No...the people who made this had probably never heard of Zaphod Beeblebrox!!! I just bought an EcoFlow today.....but a Big one......just as a back up.

@HomesteadingUncontained thank you to reply back to me .. I'm new on this ..but I only wanto to start to set up a off grid whit one of fogstar energy battery but not sure about the inventer which is the good to run whit battery.. i only can put not more then 6 solar panel not into the roof but I hope to have enough space on garden and all system if I can will run in shed ... I wanto to know what I need to set up ..and of course I need some specialist to set up all system
Usually you use a hand held 100 ohm resistor between the positive bat cable and the positive inverter connection to precharge the inverter's capacitors with small amount of current just before the final hookup. That way you do not shock the capacitors with large inrush of current. Does this inverter or battery have a built in ohm resistance precharge circuit or some other type of protection?
It’s obviously too late now but you should always leave a good amount of slack inside the skirting duct. At least half a metre if possible. It’s never seen and can avert situations like this. Oh well, next time!
We have had it running about 3 weeks now and it has had no problems at all. Excellent build quality and easy to set up with the front touch screen. Heavy but on wheels.
FOGstar, sounds like you need to send it back to blighty for a proper fog environment to charge on coal. then I bet france has a special tax for british electrons. And, by the way your 11mm problem is simple and something you have seen before---7/16" but luckily you don't need to worry about 26 tpi.
i think i have a bosch set of those spade or speeddril bits that has a 11mm in them but yeah ... now regular 11mm wooddrils do exist but they are usually not included in sets, and you may not find them at the big box store
@quantaca5773 you have to buy the engineering set the 1 that goes in .25 increments I know Z in letter dills is just under 10.50, so who have letter & number drills in their kits other than toolmakers
I am sure I could have sourced one from somewhere, but in the moment of time I had nothing in my drawers..... so a little wiggle with a 10mm did the trick 🤣
@@HomesteadingUncontained yeah that usually does the trick, wether you have the wrong size drill, one with some wear, or a plug thats a little oversize... In the end its not precision engineering. Which is a good thing because our (already pricey) tools and consumables would be a lot more costly even just to eliminate things like chuck wobble, bit straightness and diameter consistenty.

Easy to strip the thread. I learnt the expensive way 😢
It was set to minimum torque, I had to tighten with a manual ratchet afterwards 😀
Ian knows what he’s doing, if that hasn’t been clear thus far.
Should have a torque spec and use a torque wrench / driver.
@ it didn’t but I am experienced enough to tighten it.

Hi Ian &julie that an amazing up grade👋
Cheers Liam, I can't quite believe it myself.
Loving the attention to detail with everything you have done so far . I look forward to seeing more of your project
Thank you very much! 👍🏻
Wow that’s a beauty of a system. Lucky you 😊😊
Can't believe they sent it across - it was a major pain with customs and importing from the UK - harder than importing from China now.
Love it. very informative. You make it seem a lot easier than I'm sure it is. Oh Julie, the battery weighs more fully charged. LOL
Cheers Kevin, have a great Christmas,
Been running my sunsynk's ( and seplos batteries) now for a few years , really happy with them
It does look a nice piece of kit and works straight off the bat.
Nice early Christmas present this will make life easier
Sure will, pinching myself they sent it over for us.
Fab Battery, I have one, another on the way. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I am very pleased with it - still waiting for it to be fully charged - winter is terrible, but it has not run out yet.
How much do these batteries cost

It is pretty stable with the feet down. It would take a lot to pull it down. But on the wheels, yes it is a little top heavy.
Maybe auxillary is for a petrol/diesel generator? For when the battery's flat and the sun isn't shining?
There is a specific Generator input - but no actual input for Aux....I will not use it anyway but would be nice to know.
