Great review! It was Christmas 1985, i was 10 years old and got the original. Now i am 45 and got this masterpiece. It brought back sweet memories and a big smile on my face. Thanks Mattel!
Ah, the nostalgia. I used to have a few pieces in the early 90s, and coveted all the playsets. Looking at the old pieces now, they look so iconic. After so many years, I am collecting again. Re-living the childhood. Feeling at once embarrassed and happy as a clam :D
Incredible remake of Castle Grayskull: I think it might supersede the 1982 one with its quality, especially on the gun turret station and right tower. The Sorceress variant looks great also. Great bonus with a fantastic playset!

Just got mine a week ago. I never had a castle greyskull as a kid so I was excited to get this. It did look too much like plastic so I put a earth brown wash on it and it just makes everything pop on it.
A great review, the latest reviews (and yours) have really sold this to me more, as I was on the fence before. Can’t wait for this to appear in the UK in the coming month!
This is a great review! I stopped actively collecting MOTU, transformers, GI Joe a couple of years ago... until I saw this origins line. I've always wanted a Scareglow, but could never fork out $300+ for a yellowed vintage one, so it's really Scareglow that sucked me back in. Never considered getting a Castle Grayskull, but now I am.

Okay, 6 months later, I HAVE A CASTLE GRAYSKULL! It is awesome! Worth the wait, and it also came with the sorceress with the new knees which look great. Really wish Mattel went with these knees to start with.

Great review, the new castle looks nice, but I'll stay with my vintage Castle (that I'm restoring) to mix the origins figures with some of the vintage figures that I still have... The origins line brought me back to collect MOTU.

I want this set! If I remember correctly, the original allowed Point Dread to attach to one of the towers. Does this set have that functionality? I'm hoping for The Talon Fighter, at some point, to come into the series!
almost bought those Disney castles in Ollie's for my Ig diorama's, ;) glad I stalled..this would definitely be my background for my medieval sets like Motuc & LOTR, looks great..thanks Mattel
Nothing reinventing the wheel or anything but a nice little update of the original with some good improvements. Just nice to see a playset at regular retail. As with the rest of this line it's somewhat underwhelming for me coming off of classics but it's nice for what it is.
@@GeekDadLife I actually went on eBay last month and just went for it ( castle grayskull) i spent $200 plus shipping from a seller in Niagara falls . I didn't care i just had to have this and not wait until April or August from Big bad toy store .
If it was only 20% bigger ..... it would be perfect for classics. I liked origin castle design over classics. The white sorceress look like a Victoria secret model lol.
Pictures I saw of the new grayskull it had orange painted thatched roofs on the back but I see your one in vid has black painted thatched roofing on the back so I guess they binned the orange lol. Also noticed there's no robot sticker
I wish it were more asymmetrical like Mark Taylor's original concept (this one is too "perfect" IMO), but I definitely dig it anyway. I wasn't planning on getting this considering I have the vintage and Classics versions, but you may have changed my mind...
Agreed, it's going to take some time to get used to the more symmetrical door, and the smoother paint apps. I preferred the more "crude" look of the vintage playset. It's still a worthy update though.
Oh man I’ve got this on preorder through Walmart...can’t wait my kids are gonna go crazy. Did you ever review the savage DC bat castle? It is obviously an homage to castle grey skull but a very cool set in its own way.
I would be in for a definite buy if the skull looked like the painted version that's on the front of the box. That painted version just looks like an improvement to the original design. I will say the paint looks better on the model that is depicted on the back of the box. I might pick one up if they do a painted variant like the one on the back of the box even though I think the skull looks like it has taken lithium.

I'm also starting to think that the spacesuit is going to be a pack-in with the carded, color version of the Sorceress, otherwise it wouldn't sell as well since she's the bonus with this playset. This also gives me hope that Hasbro will follow suit and do a Real Ghostbusters firehouse to go with their own classics re-release line...
Have mine preordered, hopefully Walmart doesn't cancel it. It's weird that we get the Temple Sorceress, but I don't think I've seen the regular Sorceress listed in any of the waves I've seen yet. Hopefully they do the Pink version of her and Teela at some point too.

Pretty amazing its like one foot in vintage and the other in classic making it a beast all its own, plus looking at the tower I saw a set of holes near the foot peg maybe wishful thinking but could that be slots for Point Dread?
Couldn't have said it better myself, it's its own Grayskull and thats awesome :) Those little holes are for the banners, but I assume a Point Dread would still work with this!

The Transformers still make playsets, but I guess they can be excused somewhat since they also become giant robots as well.

Fairer than Teela, but more of an accurate flesh tone than Adora which seems too plasticy to my eyes.

You can take them out! They are not permanently locked in, great question!

I think they are going to turn the space suit character into an actual action figure. He appears in one of the minicomics, with the name Jet Pak.

with flagpole 23 1/2 inches. The right tower reaches 18 inches tall.
