As someone who never got the original as a kid, this is such an awesome, affordable option. I adore this figure line. Having the wind raider connect the the castle is a great feature many don’t know about.
Hah, I just got this same Castle Grayskull as a Christmas gift from my wife. I actually really like it though the plastic feels softer and more flexible than the original castle. The plastic computer parts and fabric banners are a nice upgrade from the cardboard versions of the original toy. I also got Origins Panther and the Landshark. I'm setting up a display in my office space which is mainly dedicated to toy lines I enjoyed as a kid in the 80s and 90s. The white Sorceress reminds me of the Sorceress from the Master of the Universe movie with Dolph Lundgren. I kind of like it better than the colorful cartoon version.
I was another kid who wanted one of these in the 80s and never even got to play with one. I am awaiting another round of these for Australia to obtain one... after your review I cannot wait to obtain my own!
I'd love to get one of these, but I can tell right now that my mom is going to love it most, just for the opportunity to watch me have to apply all of the stickers myself, this time. Decal application was always her task, and man, it seemed like no 80s toy came without a big sheet of them.
Lol..yeah, I kind of miss that some! Transformers were always needing to be stickered up! And omg, I remember the 3 or 4 sheets for Trypticon..a real pain in the bum! Lol🤣
Looks great, I'm almost tempted to buy one, but I'm planning to use my vintage castle (which I'm restoring thanks to your videos) with the origins figures and mixing them with the few vintage figures I still have in good condition.
Great review Dave! I got my Greyskull from BBTS a while back and absolutely love it. I also bought the Power-Con Greyskull accessory set to enhance it with the space suit figure...even if the other parts are a bit naff. Really enjoyed this review and glad to see you got one of these fantastic MOTU Origins versions.
Dave, this is a great, no nonsense review, and it's great to hear the reverence in your voice when going over the playset. It genuinely saddens me that Mattel chose to make the accessory set for this an exclusive. I hope they find a way to mass-release it sometime. I also hope we get a Talon Fighter and Point Dread, and maybe a She-Ra Swiftwind...
The accessory set is a bit rubbish tbh. It's not terrible, but anyone who bought it at the obscene aftermarket prices got ripped off IMO; if Mattel does release the spacesuit in retail down the line, I think you won't be missing anything if you just buy that.

Lovely playset. Even the box it comes in is fantastic. They managed to find a very good illustrator with and appropriate style! Great additions with the plastic parts and all the improvements they made. Great job from Mattel! I would like to see someone take this toy to the next level and do some weathering and whatnot...
I do like the additional paint details and the plastic computer terminals and the wood molding on the floor panels looks way better. They did a PowerCon exclusive set that included a plastic space suit like the cardboard one from the original as well as an improved dungeon section with actual tentacles coming out of it to place over the sticker. I feel like Mattel realizes that the best way to make a successful toy line that relies heavily on nostalgia is to recreate what we originally had but improve upon it. Don’t redesign and over think it to the point it is only a shadow of its former self. MOTU Origins is by far the best new line out there in my opinion. Thank you for the excellent review. Good luck finding a spot to display that beauty 😃👍
The MOTU Origins Castle Grayskull is a great hybrid of the vintage and Classics playsets. I'm really enjoying this toyline. You did a great job applying the stickers. ;-)

I just ordered one of these for $72 CDN shipped ! However found another one locally on Craigslist for $60 . I'll pick that up tomorrow. Not sure if I will keep both, but happy to add this to the collection. I was never the biggest MOTU fan...but I cant lie the nostalgia bug bit me !!!
My boys got this for Christmas. I've only seen it in the store that one time. I was also able to get the PowerCon exclusive add-on set... I doubt many people actually bought that for their kids. At $30 I felt it was worth it... I couldn't justify the cost of the other exclusive figures.
Some update tips. There is alot more the goes to the origins castle grayskull. Floor pieces come with some origins vehicles like Stridor comes with a piece of the grayskull floor also the battle Armor damaage He-man with battlecat comes with grayskull floor pieces. Also the mystery of grayskull has floor pieces.
There's spots on the bottom floor to hang the banners as well. Well, a spot, I can't remember off hand if the throne side floor has one as well. I should think so since a banner there has to fold up to make space for the overlapping floor section when you close the set up.
They did a great job on this as a remake, I ended up getting a deal on this and paid $63. Definitely a nice deal for a definitive playset! Thanks to you, I noticed the great second floor ladder clip in area - I had mine on the first floor and it looks so much better and more usable up there!

The Sorceress can simply magically open the door for anyone who wants to enter. The original playset had a switch on the inside so you could manually unlock/lock the door, sadly missing from this version. It also had a lever that let you move the jawbridge up and down from the inside.
Whoever designed castle Grayskull needs to know you shouldn't put the dungeon right next to the exit gate. Anyways, I love it, has the feel of the vintage one with a better look.
The spacesuit does not come with the castle. It was available only as a con exclusive accessory add on set for the castle. It is highly believed that it will eventually be released as a single carded figure at retail, but its not been announced officially.
I prefer the build quality of this, but prefer the haphazard never two the same paint job on the originals. Speaking of paint jobs, does anyone Know if the original he-man ever came with chrome accessories? I have quite strong memories from around 1984/85 of a schoolfriend of ours bringing his He-man and skeletor figures in on toy-day, and we were all jealous because unlike ours, both of his figures had chromed accessories such as swords, axe, staff etc. The he-man ones being a silver chrome, the skeletor ones having a purple/blue hue to them. I still speak to the guy every now and then, and he remembers his ones being different, but h doesn't know if they were bought like that or if his dad or someone did something to them. He is sure they weren't painted that way, and he remembers them being plastic underneath because when the chrome started wearing away they were the standard colour plastic showing through. He seems to think his dad may have somehow electroplated them because he used to electroplate small parts for his own classic car and motorbikes, but if he did, we can't work out how he would of electroplated plastic, at home back in the 80s. I know you can get kits to do it now, but these seem to be quite recent. We can't ask his dad either as he unfortunately passed away a few years ago. And like my friend said, they may have been a special edition, although we've not been able to find anything out about this, and other than the chrome accessories, the figures were standard. Any info would be appreciated. Happy new year!
This playset is amazing. For what it was, I am so glad I got myself one when I had the chance. I get the "why" they didn't add a third banner though. If you get the "upgrade" from Powercon then the Robot Suit fills in the middle side. Hopefully, a brilliant mind can figure out how to do an eventual add-on to for the first floor. Like you said it is the weakest area of the playset. Perhaps why they gave us a second weapons storage? I'm really curious if they do a Snake Mountain what they'll do to keep it in the old style but update it? That of all things had an even worse back end that the Classics fixed perfectly.
I wouldn't say the Classic version is "perfect". It has a lot of great ideas, but bad execution. The dungeon for example is too small, and has a massive gaping hole in the side where figures can just walk through. It's also almost impossible to close the dungeon door with a figure inside. The throne is too small for Classics Skeletor to sit on, and the weapons storage column will not hold his havoc staff. For the insanely high price, those flaws should have been corrected before release.
If anyone can figure out how to remove the metal pole in the centre that holds both sides of the Castle together without breaking or damaging the the set please post a video.
A shame that they did not include a small holding cell under the trap door to improove the dungeon. Just a sticker is a bit meh. Even as a child I expected more.
Just a question , where are you from ? Sometimes you can find for less money than you think , I can at the moment find it easy for just 70 Euro (free shipping) .... at Black Friday the castle was just 50 Euro .

Nothing else. Castle grayskull costs $180. They all came in august 2021. Everything came and went, except for ninjor who nobody wants. Mattel has a worse distribution scheme than hasbro, every country gets different stuff. I just got a vintage castle last year for $200, Only cardboards and tiny gun missing.

The wave you are talking about was asmuch I remember also here in Germany the first wave january 2021 . Teela , heman (ugly face) skeletor (ugly face) hordak, tri klops and Battle Cat was my first Origins figures . Just wait 6 months and you will find the new He-man and Skeletor , Castle Grayskull and many other things in your country too .

This is my second favorite Grayskull after Classics. Really nice, durable quality and an improvement in every way over the original.

Mark Taylor designed it. His wife Rebecca did the original sticker artwork. He sadly passed away last week. Rest in Peace.

I use a spring loaded punch on old Transformers and that works well. I've not tried on this, but this the same idea.

There is no secret door as in the Classics Grayskull.
Nope. Both of those secret doors (the one next to the elevator, and the one near the throne) are not in this version.

The vintage Castle Grayskull is about the same size, so yes, you can use most of the old accessories and figures with the new castle.
