    I'm loving this bike. It runs and feels so much better than it looks on paper. A lot of reviews claim the quickshifter doesn't work and it stops making power at 7k. My quickshifter works very well. It might not keep building additional power but it's a broad curve that doesn't really fall off. It's an awesome setup for the street.

    Been riding 30 odd years, had almost everything. I work in the trade so I get to ride everything, bought one of these in August after a 2 hour test ride. Just completed it's first 600 miles, it is absolutely sublime, fat spread of power, so much fun. No buyers remorse at all. I love it. I want to ride it all the time, which I think is the true measure of a great bike. Ignore comparing specs, just try one.

      My last 3 bikes were a 2012 Aprilia RSV4R, a 2008 ZX-10R, then a 2016 GSX-S1000. Would I be disappointed "going backwards" to something like this or would you suggest sticking with a bigger bike? I've noticed a trend in smaller displacement and not super over the top powerful bikes getting a lot of praise (Z900, R7, RS660 specifically jump to mind)... the price tag on this and the GSX8R and available accessories keep grabbing my attention.

    Just picked up a blue one on Monday. Hit 500 miles on the odometer today. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it. Bike actually feels tamer then I was expecting. Probably just cause I never had rider aides before. Seems odd when you can get on it and the front wheel doesn't come up. lol But it is good usable power for the street.
    Looking forward to seeing your build. A little more top end pull would be nice. Definitely have to pick up a fender eliminator when either you or Yosh have one ready. Cause that stock thing is horrible. If they just kept the brake light on the bike it would of been an easy fix.

      The torque is very very weak compared to my 2020 Yamaha XSR 900 given those dyno figures. Mine makes 53 ft/lb torque at a mere 2,000rpm where this GSX-8S is only at 15 ft/lb at 2,000rpm. bhp is way down at 30bhp less. Yamaha named my bike in Japan the MTM 850 for a reason. Monster Torque Motor. I have ridden this Suzuki and it is not up to par. It cannot get into the 10's for a 1/4 mile and it takes forever to hit it's top speed at redline. @@TSTindustries

My point is, these engines just need to be setup and tuned like the sport bike engines (like Aprillia with the RS660, or any Ducati, or any KTM) and they'd be worth it. We already got into the ECU and started the work. The bike, with no exhaust change, will not yield much of a performance improvement. But once we get a full exhaust on it and do some intake side mods, then tune, we will definitely unlock a bunch of potential. Then the plan is to get into the suspension and really get this thing razor sharp. We have no Hornet here so I cannot make a comparison, but I can say that out of the other competing bikes in this class the 8S is tops for me.

    Finally sat on one last weekend. 84 hp Suzuki claimed. Must be at the crank. I was wondering about the top end HP for this bike.

    • @TSTindustries
      @TSTindustries  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is the average that Suzuki measured in their lab on an engine dyno at the crank.

    • @Drunken_Hamster
      @Drunken_Hamster 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All factory power ratings from any mass-produced vehicle or crate engine are at the crank unless otherwise specified. 84hp claimed compared to 77hp at the wheel is about a 9% power loss, which is pretty much right in line with what a transverse engine setup with a manual transmission and one driven axle is supposed to do.
      The rule of thumb is to start at 10% drivetrain loss for transverse FWD (or transverse in general for bikes), then add 5% more loss for every inefficiency added. The list of inefficiencies is; Longitudinal (requires a change in direction to make the wheels turn), AWD, and Automatic transmission. So the worst would be a longitudinal automatic transmission 4wd/AWD at 25% power loss. IIRC, dual-clutch counts as manual, and automatic means a trans with a torque converter and planetary gears.
      With bikes in particular, they also say belts are less efficient, but I don't buy it. Shafts are definitely less efficient though, since they add a change of direction and significant rotating mass. I also just don't like the idea of jacking or torque lean/torque twist, so shafts on bikes aren't for me unless it's some antique showpiece thing. Though I might also make an exception for a Triumph Rocket.

      SV650 has been competing in the 650-690 class already. With extensive work it's made shy of 90 horsepower at the wheel.

      @richardwarsinske7064 Competition is always a good thing. It wouldn't be difficult to make something with the 8S engine to compete with the R7.

    2017 gsxr1000 wasnt a new design?

    • @TSTindustries
      @TSTindustries  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      "Suzuki hasn't released anything substantially new in a long time"....yes the 1000 was an all new design but that was 5.5 years ago, with no other notable new bikes. Not a critisizm of Suzuki, just an observation. This point of view is forged by the stark contrast that Kawi and Yamaha set up in my mind because of the rapid fire releases of multiple new bikes since 2015.

    If it didn't choke up top and carried peak torque all the way to redline, it'd make 106HP. Once again, the Japanese bike manufacturers are screwing us out of what we really want and need. Is it really too much to ask for something with literbike torque and 750 horsepower, or a 750's torque with a 600's horsepower with both examples being in a cross-plane parallel twin config (even better if they ACTUALLY copy KTM with the 285-degree crank/firing interval) and with the good ole' Big four reliability, parts availability, and service cost?
