I've been painting with those markers all summer long! I got a set of smooth rocks and my Son and I leave the finished rocks all over the neighborhood. We don't let anyone know it's us but we've seen 2 rocks in separate gardens in front of the apt and it makes us smile. Just like you do when you post, ramble and talk about art. It is an absolute pleasure.
I've got a ton of markers and hardly ever use them, but I get them out and let my granddaughter go to town with them. We do a lot of fun stuff. I watched until the end. 😮😂
Hey Pete! I love that you have other hobbies too! I have several myself! I stick to my view point tho, that art has no rules, only rules we want to make up. People can disagree with me if they want to. I am not saying that fundamental principles aren’t adhered to for a masterpiece or the artist you’re trying to emulate may have made their own rules or followed someone else’s rules. I’m saying we put rules on ourselves, but you can make art with no rules. Not all art is a masterpiece and I don’t think there has to be a why, other than it felt good to do. Yes, feeling is a huge part of art and there’s also no rules on those. I think Pete and I think alike on this subject! Thx Pete ❤
I have more hobbies than I have time. I picked this one up this year. Absolutely, you can make art for no other reason than it feels good. I always say when you have that creative bug, it builds up inside you and you can't help but create something. It's like a pressure valve. I appreciate you! 🙂
Mrs. Illustrations! That clock is STUNNING 🤯🤩 That intricacy is amazing and it's soo pretty! Also I love your mutual space, it's very similar to mine and my partners ❤
She does amazing work. I'll have to show some more in another video. That space definitely works for us. We have something similar in the studio but we share this space more often. Thanks Becky! 👍🏻
You can give water mixable oils a try. I use them on occasion. They clean up with water instead of using harsh solvents and once the water evaporates from the paint they are normal oils. Very interesting. 👍🏻
Actually, I’ll go you one farther-your ‘there are no rules in art (sort of…)’ is actually a life lesson for a creator in *any* line. For instance, I love creating Renaissance garb (The Arbor Consort is our madrigal grouip), but actually sewing the pieces together isn’t the fun part. The fun part is adding beaded embroidery, applique, piping, and other trim by hand! So I guess I don’t just “make” garb, I create the magic for display on our persons. It is soooo fun to draw outside the lines! I enjoyed listening to your ramble!!
The pedal looks great wish it had worked, I wanted to hear. 😊. I have used markers on rocks, but really never tried them on anything else. This video was inspiring, maybe I’ll buy some more and give it a go on other things. I enjoyed this video, I enjoy ALL of your videos. Have a great day, Pete.
You are hilarious. I love your random chatter and disrespect towards “rules”. It took me awhile to learn that, but now I completely agree! Fun video! And I love your wife’s work! You should highlight her on a video!
I'm not a marker person- the scratchy sound drives me crazy. But I do watch your videos. You always make something interesting to look at. Could never use these markers. Had some kind of weird sensory overload from the colors and the small pattern on them. When the camera showed the pile at the top of the screen I had to look away. Probably a left over from my hippie days.
I am currently obsessed with acrylic markers. I have been thinking of painting an overdrive pedal I built. That was a nice looking pedal. How does it sound?
Thank you! It's like a boost fuzz pedal. The quirk knob is interesting. Turning to the right gets brighter but also adds some drive. Turning to the left makes it smoother but also cuts some of the gain. That's strange because it's a transistor circuit and usually more bass adds more gain. This one works in reverse. I'm not sure where you are on building pedals but I'm fairly new to designing them. It's a blast. Go for it. If you end up painting it, I'd love to see what you create. Email is listed in the description. 👍🏻
So, I have that same set of paint markers you have. They work great! Although I don’t reach for them much, I like having them for certain art projects. In regards to Posca, I don’t feel the need to have them instead. For one simple reason, for me. They look fat and unwieldy, too fat for a marker for me. I don’t know if they have any skinnier versions for those of us requiring that, but I think Posca would do themselves a favor by having a skinnier offering. Surely I’m not alone in this?
As someone who also tinkers with electronics, I totally get how it is almost always my fault. It's probably Always my fault 😅 In our defense, humans are jittery and moist and it doesnt mix with electronics well
Love that u design guitar pedals, my husband builds guitars ( electronics) as a hobby! Love your videos - and I recently started using acrylic markers 🎉🎉🎉
Rembrandt copied Caravagio. The light dark extreme was Caravaggio thing. Rembrandt was such a little copycat he even put a d in his name to copy / pay tribute to Caravaggio. Which was real nice of him. Although his name sounds the same with or without the d; the d inserted changed its meaning. To the technique he admired so much. He was a much more fluid painter though. The times they were a-changing. Allowing Rembrandt to be more loose in his technique.
If you're not supposed to use white or black in watercolor then why does every set come with a white and a black? And why do I own like FIFTEEN different Daniel Smith blacks (he does the coolest blacks!)? And why do many famous watercolorists actually use white and black? I know why, because just watering down your red DOESN'T MAKE IT A PASTEL PINK! 🤣🤣
Their shouldn't be so many rules in art. Painting is putting down color on a substrate, it's really that simple. If you paint a tree, you aren't painting a tree, you are adding color to the limbs, to the trunk, to the leaves, the fruits if it's a fruit bearing tree, etc... No need to be so rigid in art, unless you are a master, then I understand the necessity for all the rules since so many people will be judging your art. For us regular people who enjoy creating art, it's all about creating our own works of art, creating our own rules, no need to explain why we did this or that but society in general has become this way. We always need to explain everything we do, as if we are kids, pffff! Unless you are baking food, you need to follow the recipe. Unless you are working in a lab, you need to measure to make sure you don't blow up a building somewhere because you are a rebel and refuse to follow rules, I say, get your paints or whatever you chose to create with that day and HAVE FUN! Have people forgotten how to have fun nowadays! I always love watching or listening to your videos.
It didn't work because you didn't follow the rules. Lol In life you don't have to follow the rules, but if you don't the likelihood that you'll not make it increases exponentially.
I do not necessarily agree with that “THIS IS THE CORRECT WAY” is nonsense. Someone along the way MADE UP that rule…so, you must do art the way you want….I just don’t believe there are rules in art. Do what makes you happy…. That’s what is so GREAT about ART…..forget the art rules…..enjoy doing the art.
Love the idea of leaving a painted rock to be found, thanks for sharing that!
It makes them feel special. 👍🏻
Hi Pete - Good use of of markers and very versatile. Loved how the Pedal turned out. Nice job Pete.
Thanks Marty! I appreciate you. 🙂

Isn't that a great feeling? And you teach him to get some joy by bringing joy to others. Plus a wonderful memory for both of you. Everyone wins! 🙂
Love that! I’m going to do it too! Pete-you may have started a Movement 😊
That would be wonderful. 🙂
Oh my goodness! Your wife is a treasure! The clock is amazing!
She sure is. She can do anything. 🙂
@@IllustrationsByPete Awe, tell I said she is amazing!
I sure will. Thank you! 🙂
Your narrative is so calming, i fell asleep half way through. What a shame…i have to watch it again! 😂😂❤
😂

Thank you! Sounds like a fun time. 🙂
You inspired me! I have a whole tin of paint markers I have never used, and some plain birdhouses I bought to paint and just never did. Thank you! 😊🪺
I'm glad you feel inspired! That's why I do these. 🙂

Hi! I'm glad I could make you smile. 🙂
Eventually it's almost like an exhaustion response. No more rules, I'm trying to have fun! 😂
❤ I love almost all art supplies. The only thing I’m not keen on trying so far is oil based stuff.
You can give water mixable oils a try. I use them on occasion. They clean up with water instead of using harsh solvents and once the water evaporates from the paint they are normal oils. Very interesting. 👍🏻

Could be. Thanks for the support! 👍🏻
I’d bet you like Caravaggio too!
I have to look into it. I'm sure I will from what others are saying. 👍🏻
Now I want you to paint a fly... 😄
Maybe one day. 😂
What's it like to paint a fly? lol I love my posca xfine tip paint markers. Haven't had them very long though. 😊
Yes, I love Posca. They are definitely the standard for paint markers. First you need to catch the fly. 😂
I am currently obsessed with acrylic markers. I have been thinking of painting an overdrive pedal I built. That was a nice looking pedal. How does it sound?

Their extra fine tips are thinner. More like sharpie size. Those are the ones I use the most. Paint pens are fun all around. 🙂

Electronics are fun to toy around with. So are acrylic markers. You can do so many things with them. 🙂

Thank you! I agree. If you aren't having fun, you're doing it wrong. That's the only rule I have for myself. 🙂
“Pedals by Pete”. Maybe a new channel on the horizon…
Could be down the line. I've thought about it but I have a second channel idea in the works. Coming soon. 🙂
It didn't work because you didn't follow the rules. Lol
