- Nell Carter (Give Me A Break star) always blew me out of the water with her sweet pipes! This woman was so talented on so many levels. Here's a very heart wrenching candid interview that I found on an old video cassette of mine from back in the day!

Now that took nerves, guts and honesty to tell that story. She was so talented and could sing her butt off.

@@kirabarsmith9353 Definitely agree here, many addicts deal with shame with having to keep their life secret, and it leads to a lot of problems. Coming out and admitting this type of thing is not easy to do and may have inspired others to step out and seek help.
Would love to see actress Octavia Spencer play her either on Broadway, or in a Bio-pic. I think she would be incredible.

I am watching “gimme a break” you could not tell what she was going through. She was amazing.
I was just watching the 1sr episode. I looked her up and she was in her early 50s when she died. Sad.
You should look up her early life trauma. She was always fighting demons
Nell deserved so much better than that show where she was the damn help.
She was so classy and sweet. Doesn't even seem like she's talking about something so dark. Her spirit is so calm and happy

i didn't know she had a drug problem. i was just a child (born 1980) when she was famous. i remember watching her show. i always found her to be beautiful.

Her daughter looks so much like her its amazing! I hope Nell is in a much better place & her soul is at peace. Used to watch re-runs of *Gimme A Break* every day when I'd get home from school to an empty apartment when I was 7 yrs old. Nell was my *mom* throughout my early childhood years when my mother had to work & couldnt be there. Rest in Eternal Love _Mama_ Nell 🙏❤

Given that she was stating that she doesn't NEED cocaine, her following statement was probably that she (or any other former addict) never stops WANTING it. It's like that with alcoholics as well, which is why all addicts have to take it one day at a time.

Nell carter reminded me of my own mother. I lost my mom when I was 14 and watching Nell helped ease some pain.

I loved Nell Carter. Gimme A Break was a telivison show that I couldn't miss an episode of. For some reason she came across my mind and I had to goggle her

When you can fully feel something you never have experienced, it has been expressed by someone who has,this well,this candidly, honestly remembered and felt.
She was a great talent. And I’m so glad she got to share her talent with the world. I hope she found true happiness.
yeah, it's sad she died at the young age of 54, she was on the way to making a comeback at the time too. I feel like she didn't really have a very happy life overall though. :(

My Dad used to love 'Gimme a Break'. I did too but I really liked her role in the movie 'Modern Problems' with Chevy Chase. I think that movie was the reason I couldn't wait for the sitcom to come out. I was weird, for some reason I felt like listening to the theme song from that show and it led me here. I don't remember Nell Carter going to rehab. Glad she decided to get clean. Requiescat in pace, Nell and thank you for the memories from my childhood.

In her documentary, she stated that her 2 weaknesses were cocaine and shoes, that's what she blew her money on every payday.
I have a lot of respect for her humanity. What a lady.

She was struggling alot during her time especially when it comes to Fame and it is sad how she was facing the biggest Challenge's in her life and was wrestling alot with her personal issues and I never would of thought that she had drug problems and it is important to reach out to people when you see that they needed help. And I believe she had done everything she could to maintain a positive and encouraging life style but to me I feel that all throughout her pain it was too unbearable to deal with and she will be truly missed and I know that she is in great care in the hand's of the Lord Spiritually and Eternally.

I think what a lot of people don't know or remember is, cocaine addicts were demonized at that time. Yet, a lot of people had a coke habit. She really put her ass on the line in this interview. Love you Nell 💗💗💗💗
Everyone does not use drugs. It is a choice. If people use drugs, others will tell them it is bad because IT IS BAD!!!!!!!
