Jamal, it's the same process, but for the other handle. :) If it's the rear doors, it might be a child door lock mechanism. Usually, a tiny little metal switch lives near the hook for the door latch on the door itself. Switch it a couple of times and test. :)
This is old, but what a genius rig up to get that latch working. The customer would have had to scrounge around for a salvage part (and may end up doing that anyway eventually) but not yet. Not yet.
PLEASE HELP!!!! I cannot open the rear passenger door of my Mercedes Benz ML350 from inside or outside. Good job on your improvisation fix Scotty, happy to see guys who can do what you do. Please move to Indianapolis so you can be my car guy. I really like your cat, reminds me of an old cat I loved years ago, I called her Fancy.
Scotty, my door will not open! Everything you did here you did with the door already open. My car is a 2001 Chevrolet Prizm; it is the same car as a Toyota Corolla. The back, driver's side door will not open. I tried removing the inside door handle and pulling on the rod, while also pulling up on the outside handle. No luck. I tried pulling the vertical part (for locking and unlocking the door) with a pair of channel lock pliers, while also pulling up on the outside handle. No luck there either. It's an electric door. So I ran two wires to the battery. (First, I disconnected both battery cables so I did not fry the computer or anything else.) And connected the wires to the battery posts. I tried both ways, switching the two wires around from positive to negative, and vice versa. I could hear a muffled clicking sound both ways, but the door still will not open. This is the door I want to replace. So I started carving up the inside door panel. Then I will try pulling on the rods with my pliers. Something has to work! Greetings from Minnesota!
I have one for you. A 2002 Ford Explorer with the rear driver's side door stuck shut. Won't open from inside or outside. Window won't roll down. Constantly trying to lock/unlock and the alarm goes on when set. I have the internal door latch off and it seems to work. But, it's got a cable instead of a rod to pull/push to open. On other vehicles, I've just grabbed the rod and move it to open the door. Now, I'm stuck. I'm thinking I have to pry the door open since the screws are covered by the door frame. BTW, I like your videos. You've saved me a lot of work!
Your first video I don't like much, I don't like the way you tear the nylon dust cover behind the trim , and obviously this is an already opened door. Title says fix a door that won't open. Some time ago a friend could not open his door from inside neither outside because something was broken , and even his garage could not fix it without damaging the trim. He abandoned the idea of fixing it until one day a thief opened the door to steal whatever he would found in the car. He found nothing plus the door was now open and easy to fix. Is that lucky or what?
I'm in that same boat, with no way to get the panel off while the door is stuck shut. I'm surprised there is not a contingency for this type of thing. I'll be looking into how much it will cost for a shop to do the repair, but I'm fairly confident that it will entail cutting or otherwise destroying the panel to access the linkage. Major bummer.
@@Darl4791 I've talked to a few mechanics over the phone. Basically, I was referred to an auto-body shop. I also may try a dealership. But the basic assumption is that the door panel will need to be cut up to some degree (maybe even entirely cut off?). I still don't want to do so until I know for sure I'll be able to reach the part(s) needed to pull the latch or whatever to get the door open. I already took apart what little of the panel can be removed, to the point I was able to stick my hand in a little. But I couldn't reach anything to open the door. It will probably take getting the entire panel off to get further into the door. I don't know if many cars are designed this way, but it seems there should be some way to get it fixed without breaking a $500 panel to do so.
Everything I see on the net says dealer charges about 1k. This video leaves me high and dry, since it conveniently leaves out if it won't open from the inside. @@Rushtallica
had the same problem with my truck if it id run by a cable like je mine u my just need to lubetcate it sprayed mine with pb blaster at the handle and door latch now it works better then it ever has
Could you possible do a video about coolant and oil mixing? My girlfriend has a 2002 Saturn Vue. We drained the oil out and it was milky. Just wondering if I should trash the car or theres a way to fix it.
Clever, but I hope you put some duct tape on that plastic water shield that you ripped. Guessing that this is your own car? Don't think a customer would like to see that plastic ripped away on a public TH-cam video.
In my case, the front left door would open from outside but not from inside. Everything looked well connected but it wasn't working. I thought about just replacing the latch lock but I read somewhere that the bends in the cable gets flatter after awhile and doesn't work so I just bent the cable a little more and now it works perfectly!
Scotty I have a 16 legacy and both the door handle and handle frame are broken so the door won’t open from the inside or out can you give me some ideas on how to get the door open to put the latch back on?
***** Exactly. Refinement is a nice thing. My cousin has a 2001 Integra Type R which is a zippy little car. He added Dynamat to the doors, trunk and beneath the rear seat.. Quieted the car down and yes, it did add some weight but the stiffer springs he has on along with sticky 140 treadwear tires can handle that.
Grant E actually the Nissan Maxima which is Japanese is one of the longest lasting cars! They are fast sporty and luxury all in one! (SE model) I found many with 400,000 miles! Even 1,000,000! If that’s considered garbage, then something is wrong with you.
Hey Scotty I have a 1991 Isuzu trooper my door is hard to close it stops at certain points and you have to pull it hard to get it shut what should I do also the heat smells like mold love the videos
spray lysol in the intake under the windshield with the heat on full blast with outside air. As for the door, odds are your door latch is breaking down, but see if the hinges are bent and that makes the whole door sit low and do that too. New hinges fix that
That must make Mitsubishi the Chrysler of Japanese cars. They're far worse than Nissan. Now, I'll admit there are some cool cars from Mitsubishi, but their cars never hold up as well as Toyota or Honda. Same deal with Chrysler. There are some cool cars from Mopar, but if you think Ford is bad...
***** I don't know what you guys are talking about Nissan and Mitsubishi actually build pretty good cars but Mitsubishis the winner because we beat that thing and it never broke
Hey Mr. Scotty, I have a 360sb that currently runs without a thermostat and only because when I did have one in (180 F) and it seemed that it ran hot and even on 70• days it seemed like a baking oven on wheels. Ever since I removed it stills warms up pretty quickly and is runs fine and I was just wondering if I should install a new one or run it open (I only drive it in the summer on the weekends)
Hi Scotty, I was wondering if you can please help me out. I have a bad catalytic converter and before replacing it I wanted to know what causes it to go bad?. So I fix whatever needs to be fix before ruin the new convert.
This problem is extremely common on the Nissans made from 96-2002. Even my Pathfinder (98) has it. My Left side passenger door won't open from the inside or out. When Summer comes and it's not too chilly outside I'll try to fix it. I know plenty of other people with a Nissan in this year that has the problem. No, the child locks aren't on either. If I can't find the part at the dealer maybe I'll try to rig something up like this!
Hi Scotty ! Recently my Firebird will not hold any freon in my A/C system. The car will only blow Ice cold air when Freon is being put directly into the system, after the can is all out it returns to normal air temperature. I don't have a lot of knowledge on cars but could it be the pipes that carry the freon or could it have something to do with the compressor? Would I need to take it to a shop or is it something I could do out in my garage. Thanks in advance!
Scotty, my 2005 Pontiac vibe has a bad acceleration problem. When you try to press the gas normally the car tries take off super fast, sometimes the wheels even spin, and if you continue to hold the gas steady the car is very jerky and rpms jump up and down very badly as if the transmission is trying to downshift for no reason. It does this at almost every speed including fast highways. But if you press the gas VERY slowly the car accelerates fine like nothing is wrong with it. Any thoughts on what might be the problem? Your help would be appreciated!
One more reason to love my grand am. Sure, adjusting the screw is annoying because I'm probably doing it wrong, but at least I have the option. Now I just have to find the happy middle between the door not closing and the door not opening with either handle when the inside was working fine before (lucky I didn't put the snaps in and the bolts are all accessible without removing the seat.

If it's the rear doors, it might be a child door lock mechanism. Usually, a tiny little metal switch lives near the hook for the door latch on the door itself. Switch it a couple of times and test. :)
Mine only opens from the outside when it broke I heard a crack so I broke something
Alas, mine (1993 Volvo 240) won't open from outside OR inside. It's the driver's door. Help!
this video is so awesome. you just saved me 100 dollars. older 93 Nissan with same problem.
What if the door doesn't open from the inside and outside and is stuck shut
That's my situation right now with this 1991 Chevy pickup
This is old, but what a genius rig up to get that latch working. The customer would have had to scrounge around for a salvage part (and may end up doing that anyway eventually) but not yet. Not yet.
PLEASE HELP!!!! I cannot open the rear passenger door of my Mercedes Benz ML350 from inside or outside. The handle is not catching on to what I guess is a cable, and I live in a small town with one MB dealer who could not give me an estimate on the cost of fixing. He stated that the cost can be from $1000 to $6000. HELP!!!!!
although im 4 years late to this comment but lmao 🤣
What if the door won't open at all and I can't get the door panel off from the inside.
Cats: "What no tuna today!? I'm gonna find a new mechanic to feed us!"
I got a brand new car and suddenly my back door wont open? any ideas? all my doors can open from inside and outside but this one door on back passnger side wont open? i tried to unlock and lock
Nvm it was frozen im to gentle with my new car
What if my car door wont open at all from either way through...?
Started off not opening from the outside. Tried to fix it... now it won't open from either side
I got a 96 geo prizm with same problem.......did u ever figure what to do
I have one for you.
SinistrariKHS Oh, I guess I should say it's got automatic door locks, windows, and all that "neat" and annoying stuff. Sorry.
That thief was seasoned
I’m having this problem now with my 1993 Ford Explorer, pretty great condition.
I need to talk to this theif
You have a kind heart feeding the kitties
I always look forward to the endings of these videos...
Dear God, this manic energy is incredible
What if it dont open from the inside also....my door wont open at all......
Ring the Bell!!!
Same here.
Anyone else notice Scotty's cat exploring inside the car? LOL!
what do you do when the door won't open from the inside either?! merc w140
pay a locksmith to open it or cut the inner door panel so you can get to the latch and manually open it
+I Superman I don't know why you're talking so much shit... Look at your channel...
I Superman Oh shit I didn't wealize you are 12 yeaws old (had to replace all the r's with w's so you could understand)
had the same problem with my truck if it id run by a cable like je mine u my just need to lubetcate it sprayed mine with pb blaster at the handle and door latch now it works better then it ever has
Could you possible do a video about coolant and oil mixing? My girlfriend has a 2002 Saturn Vue. We drained the oil out and it was milky. Just wondering if I should trash the car or theres a way to fix it.
Moral of the story, buy a honda.... You can always find a company that makes the part you need.
yea, nissan is kind of a crap company for that, don't stand behind their stuff for the ages. Big reason I'd never buy one
Or even better buy a Toyota.
you can still get any part for this car idk what you guys are talking about lol...
MeowJW no, a Honda.
Scotty Kilmer Go to the wreckers for a part for an old 90s car
What if the door doesn't open in Either direction
Clever, but I hope you put some duct tape on that plastic water shield that you ripped. Guessing that this is your own car? Don't think a customer would like to see that plastic ripped away on a public TH-cam video.
In my case, the front left door would open from outside but not from inside. Everything looked well connected but it wasn't working. I thought about just replacing the latch lock but I read somewhere that the bends in the cable gets flatter after awhile and doesn't work so I just bent the cable a little more and now it works perfectly!
3:21 hahahaha scared the lick out of lucy
Nice videos Scotty. I have a 04 dodge ram 1500 sport 5.7 hemi I found a little bit of oil in the filter could it be the pcv valve ?
kitty points buddy
Scotty I have a 16 legacy and both the door handle and handle frame are broken so the door won’t open from the inside or out can you give me some ideas on how to get the door open to put the latch back on?
Typical Japanese tin box cars. No sound insulation in the doors.
Think that's a 240, made to be a lightweight sports car, not a quiet luxury car
kgisabeast 10 pounds of foam won't make it any slower.
If that’s considered garbage, then something is wrong with you.
ice king with a great tutorial
Again, isn't that a nut?
It's a female bolt
Hey Scotty I have a 1991 Isuzu trooper my door is hard to close it stops at certain points and you have to pull it hard to get it shut what should I do also the heat smells like mold love the videos
spray lysol in the intake under the windshield with the heat on full blast with outside air. As for the door, odds are your door latch is breaking down, but see if the hinges are bent and that makes the whole door sit low and do that too. New hinges fix that
ah Nissan...the Ford of Japanese cars!
and by that i mean cheap and unreliable.
Typical Ford hater. It's like other cars work for a lifetime... oh wait, THEY DON'T!
My Maxima is twenty years old with 180,000+ miles on it and it still runs great.
***** yeah i can see that as well haha but i own a 1997 Mitsubishi 3000gt and its close to 200k miles all i had that went bad was a bad axle seal
*it runs fine
sure, it would only act up in the winter when engine would run too cold, if it runs on normal temp on the gauge, that's fine
Scotty Kilmer Thanks for the advice!
I love you as a mechanic
My door don’t open at all from inside or out 🤦🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
Hi Scotty, I was wondering if you can please help me out. I have a bad catalytic converter and before replacing it I wanted to know what causes it to go bad?. So I fix whatever needs to be fix before ruin the new convert.
many things can ruin a cat, from an oil burning engine to leaking fuel injectors, have a pro check that one
so checking the fuel injectors would be the first thing to check? is there any way to know what made it go bad by looking at the cat?
Scotty your the man. I enjoy all your videos and learn good tricks. Thanks and keep sharing with us.
hey I followed your Chanel I have one question how you open the door if is the too side closed inside and out side
Can you do a video about the latch release cable on an older Camry? 02-07?
thanks SCOTTY ---you're the best!!
You are a champion. Thank you
This problem is extremely common on the Nissans made from 96-2002.
Great video as always, great how you feed the stray cats also i do it to
Thanks in advance!
odds are it's leaking too fast, check for a big leak first.
Are there any preventative steps or lubes use can you to prevent the latches from going bad?
Hi Scotty I have a Nissan Sentta 2010 the rear door wont open from the inside but it does open from outside. Any thoughts as to what could be?
Dude this guys intro is so good
AWWWW!!! 1:45 The kitty cat inspector :)
Hey Scotty I have a "88" 3 series (e30) and I can't seem to lock the driver side door so is there anything that I might be able to try. -Thanks
take the inner door panel off and check to see if the door lock rod has come off its plastic retainer clip
