Sigeyi direct mount hanger for my Canyon Ultimate: worth it or pointless upgrade?

  • I have fitted this nice looking direct mount hanger from Sigeyi to my Canyon Ultimate, it came from Aliexpress for little more than £40.
    Is it worth it or it’s just another pointless upgrade?
    In this video I am wearing Siroko SRX Pro Tirreno jersey and BX Umbrail bib shorts, both in Large. I’m 185cm tall, 86Kg.
    The glasses are Siroko photochromic K3.
    If you would like to shop for Siroko kit you can use my direct link for an automatic extra 10% discount applied to the already discounted prices srko.co/fede1275
    Thank you again for watching,

    Sounds promising and sometimes silly upgrades are fine as long as you get out on the road👍👍

    Direct mount derailleur hangers primarily make wheel replacements easier/faster, most important to pros and their mechanics in races. The kink between the two links is eliminated, which makes sliding the cassette/axle in place a bit less of a hassle

  • @paulmcknight4137

    Well, old hangers were threaded on the bottom of the drop out. When they bent they'd have to be bent back or the whole drop out replaced. So Giant and eventually everybody engineered replaceable hangers designed with softer aluminum, so that derailleur pulleys would not bend out of alignment in a crash. Can't see how it gets any better than that, mechanically.
    Seems like direct mount positions the derailleur further back on the cassette, giving it wider reach on the large gears. I'm probably missing something. What's the subtle advantage the racers are getting here, smoother shifting?

      @fede1275  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure really, but so far I like it 😄

    • @mikebrewer1346
      @mikebrewer1346 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe the (touted) benefit is more accurate/precise shifting and possibly quicker actuation as it has a stiffer foundation. For pros I believe it also facilitates quicker wheel changes (the derailleur is further out of the way).

    Have you tried an oversized pulley cage for the rear derailleur? Wonder if that’s hype or an effective upgrade.

    • @fede1275
      @fede1275  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I haven't, but if you watch what Hambini had to say about them you can class the oversized pulleys into the non effective upgrades. They look so cool though! Too expensive for me to try on for now.

    • @fede1275
      @fede1275  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did not use a torque wrench, only by hand, enough for it not to move. I used some medium firm loctite thread locker just in case.

  • @marcocasamassima389
    @marcocasamassima389 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ciao Federico, regarding the breaking of the hanger, the very important thing is the material used for that hanger. In general the hangers are using very soft materials so they break easily. Those materials are so soft that even trying to bend them back, after a crash for example, always ends up with a crack.
    I don't know what's the material of that new hanger but the geometry of the structure seems to be a lot stronger. I think, in case of a crash it will pull the screws from the threads in the frame. There is again soft material to not bend the frame joint.
    I personally would not do something like this.

    • @fede1275
      @fede1275  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ciao Marco, yes, I thought about that, but close to the frame they are similar actually. The frame is not threaded, the hanger is.
