  • The Lexus ES has been around since Toyota launched their luxury division in 1989. Now to some, the ES is just an over-polished Camry, but to many it has been the gateway to all that Lexus has to offer, helping create lifelong fans of the brand. Now in its 7th generation, the ES gets updated for 2023, so let’s see the latest it has to offer to luxury minded buyers on a budget.

    I just have to note the irony that 7.8 seconds from 0 to 60 is now considered leisurely, but when I was growing up watching this show in the 90s-00s, it was considered spirited. My how times have changed that now a lot of Auto enthusiasts expect everything to hit 60 in the five-second range if it wants to be considered anything but slow.

      Oh yeah. I remember back in late 90s when CD did a full comparo of midsize luxury sedans and the BMW 540 won and had the fastest 0-60 time of 6 seconds flat. Now we got Camrys that will beat that.

      The CONTRAST between these two cars is quite pronounced. They are very, very different from each other. One is a rather heavy and solid rear wheel drive that requires premium fuel and averages between 16 to 25 mpg on a good day. The other is front wheel drive near-luxury sedan that uses REGULAR fuel, is less to insure and operate, and returns almost double the miles per gallon. Their driving dynamics are also fundamentally different. The only thing that they both have in common is the Lexus badge and excellent build quality. And not much else, unfortunately. I have owned both, and would GREATLY prefer the ES300h. By a huge margin.

    Any and very car will drive smooth on smooth pavement with no bumps, but the real test should have been in city streets and freeways that aren’t perfect and are a mix of concrete and asphalt.

    I’m sorry but why on earth would anybody choose this over the ES350, with a legendary 3.5L V6 engine that’s smoother than warm butter and whips to 60 in about six seconds? Hybrids are not environmentally friendly. They require massive fossil fuels to extract the precious metals out of the ground, ship them, modify them and ship them back. All this to drive something that feels like a golf cart? The ES 350 is the ultimate sleeper, has gobs of power and for a V6, gets pretty good fuel economy - close to 32 mpg on the highway.

    • @1997nick
      @1997nick ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Because it's cheaper, even smoother, and more fuel efficient. The buyer of an ES probably doesn't need or care about a V6...and hybrids are more environmentally friendly. Less tailpipe emissions and better MPG, which also saves money. Who said it drives like a golf cart?
