    Got an RX7600 on the way for the second iteration of my transportable rig. Should be a huge step up from the RX580, and enough for 1080p60.

      just got a 6700 xt and it's a massive improvement over my rx 480 4g
      with the 480 rust was running at 19 fps at 720p low
      with the 6700xt it runs at 100+fps 1080p max

      It's about the same as a 6700 so yeah. I don't understand why the day 1 reviews were so negative towards it. It's a better value than almost anything else on the market right now.
      I mean GN attacked it because AMD LOWERED THE PRICE on it. What a STUPID ASS review THAT was. I pretty much stopped watching GN after that because he's just too negative and sarcastic.
      And then you keep running into the stream of comments that suggest a company can release a new product at their last gen pricing REGARDLESS of how much inflation is making their costs go up and IGNORING that AMD dropped the MSRP from $330 for the 6600 to $270 for the 7600 and only wanted to focus on the HIGHLY discounted pricing of the 6600 NOW, which isn't making AMD any profit and isn't sustainable long term.

    I've gone the piecemeal upgrade path. Started with a b450 and a 3600 with a 1080ti. I upgraded to a 5800x3d two months ago. I updated my bios and almost doubled my performance in the most demanding game I play. I just got a 7800xt two weeks ago and today my new 1440p monitor arrived. It's a whole new world. Not that it was bad before. It's just better now.

    On the topic of VRAM consumption I think Nvidia is pushing publishers to have devs make intentionally oversized texture files. I say this because modders will create higher quality textures which work with less VRAM. Starfield HD Reworked Project is a recent example of this, a mod which is only 600MB, yes that's six hundred megabytes. The mod requires only 6GB of VRAM to keep from losing frames.

    • @todorkolev7565

      So I'm using an XFX RX 7600 with Arch, and the out of the box every day driving with the card is very, very good. Even the 10 bit color X11 works very good (but Steam does not work!) Where it can get confusing is with OpenCL, and HIP, and all the computing with GPU assortment. Mostly because there are a lot of choices. With Nvidia , it was much more clear cut, install CUDA, and you were done. Right now, I have OpenCL working for darktable, and HIP for blender. I need to do more testing with OBS and Davinci Resolve, but these seem good too. Wendell has reported issues with VFIO passthrough which I don't do so nothing to report there until we hear from him.
      Bottom line - I'd like to see roundup reporting for linux too.

    Friend picked up a 6750XT for $180. This 7600 is a tough sell. Especially with 5700XT available starting at $97 on sale from China. (5700XT is roughly 20% slower, 6750XT 20% faster).
    By that metric the 7600 should probably be a $200 card. Also it makes no sense for anyone to release a low end budget card into a market saturated with cut price mining cards. The people unloading the mining cards have no problem slashing prices, they are just trying to avoid getting scrap prices.

  • @wereoctopus

    I'm one of those people you mentioned who's still on 8th-gen Intel, and the RX 7600 makes a lot of sense. Especially since here in Australia it's available at MSRP after currency conversion. For contrast, the cheapest 7800 XT here is $879 AUD, or $560 USD.
    The only problem is that I just found out my motherboard's GPU slot only runs at PCIe gen 2 speeds when there's an M.2 NVMe drive installed. Since the 7600 only has 8 PCIe lanes, that's a pretty big bottleneck.
    I guess I'll keep gaming on my GTX 1650 until I can afford a new system from scratch. Hopefully the 7800 XT (or a better card!) will be available at a more reasonable price by then.

    So despite my first computer being an Apple ][ , having MCSE 2003, and being subscribed to LTT for years - I haven't heard about you prior to the recent KVM video.
    My request would be to design a thunderbolt / USB4 enclosure that doesn't suck. Something that can make the most out of 40gbps to support 2x 16 lane slots. So if I'm running two Gen1 cards, they can use all their lanes. Even if a current generation card could reach maximum bandwidth on 8 lanes or less.
    I'd build the enclosure, x16, x4, x16, x4 with the idea being you could mount 2x and 3x cards, or a 2x size card (not using x4 slot), followed by a 2x or 3x card in the bottom slot (again not using the x4 slot).
    Alternatively, you could run up to 4 cards of size 1x, 1x, 1x, and 3x.
    You mentioned in the LTT video that some docks require 2x USB-C. So maybe that's a thing. Or Thunderbolt 4 / USB5.
    All I know is that I miss the flexibility of a desktop, but I can't justify building one when a GPD Win Max 2 can do 99.99% of what I need (with 32gb ram and 6TB SSD).

    @johndoh5182 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    8GB is easily enough for 1080p gaming as long as the GPU is fast enough. In almost all games 8GB is never the bottleneck and for the two or three were it was, just a wild guess but AMD and Nvidia BOTH approached those companies telling them that most the world is buying GPUs with no more than 8GB of VRAM so they better figure out how to fix their settings to make them work well for 8GB.
    Nvidia put out both an 8 and 16GB 4060 Ti and the 16GB variant got destroyed in reviews because the extra memory didn't give any benefit, except for once again in a game or two.
    So here it is, this is what GPU makers want to do, and this is what people, REGARDLESS of the comments sections on YT videos say, is what most the world wants to BUY, and it's really that BUYING part that matters to Nvidia and AMD, not the comments sections in YT:
    1080p = 8GB
    2K = 12 - 16GB
    4K = 16 - 20GB

    Hi Wendel, i appreciate your enthusiasm for AMD stuff, i prefer their GPUs myself over geforce cards these days (although the DLSS stuff is really making me doubt my choices), but i think claiming a 7600 can do 100fps at 1440p in modern titles is a bit dishonest. There is no way it will run cyberpunk at those settings without going into FSR, and not mentioning that doesnt feel honest to me.
    I get the "i just want to play a game, and this card does that" mindset, but overpromising on behalf of the 7600 is only going to make people disappointed with their purchase once they find out they need to drop to FSR balanced and accept quite a lot of quality degradation.
    (Also, if we are talking PSU safe gift recommendations, id go for the 6600, yes, its 20% slower, but also sucks down 50 less watts, and is a good bit cheaper, while still a massive upgrade from a 1060/580)

    I'm less annoyed by the size of the card and even the 8GB VRAM, than the x8 interface. There is no reason for this except to gimp the performance at this price tier; I find it hard to believe the extra traces cost enough to warrant it. I would REALLY love to see actual benchmarks to show that it doesn't matter, but we can't get them, which is frustrating.
    But the lack of small form factor cards is all on the AIBs. A card no bigger than the PCB has to be, even with a dual slot cooler would be wonderful.

      You can find benchmarks of the 7700XT running in x8 mode.
      Spoiler: (It doesn't affect performance.)
      And, it's not the cost of the traces. The whole GPU core was designed with fewer, faster lanes.

      The lanes come down to the Die space. They are balancing compute/shading performance and needed bandwidth. Its PCIe 4.0, so you are still getting x16 PCIe 3.0 worth of bandwidth depending on your platform (and lets be real, it would be hard to have enough CPU to make the link a problem on those older platforms and you would probably be in a x16 link class of card with the rest of the system being so beefy)

      @@tim3172 I've seen those tests and they're of limited use - hobbling a full fat chip versus a different die hobbled (cut down) by design.
      I guess the annoyance is that at this price tier it used to be you'd get the full sixteen lanes. The x8 chips were much lower in the product stack than they are now, so it just rankles that this is the new norm.

      @@milescarter7803 I get that. It's more frustration at them moving the price point where they used to do this up so far in the stack. It means it doesn't offer as much of an uplift from some older cards at this price point as it could were it not cut down in this way.

    we know shady practices have happened before, there is always a praise moment that resets the perception for the masses. although i have no weight, i agree wither the product review, but cant help to wish i knew the real decisions behind the scenes.

    But Wendle the newest Ultra ray-tracing/path-tracing on RTX4090 gets 19fps vs AMDs 7900XTX @ 5fps how can you recommend AMD when NVIDIA gets 300% more performance ... how can you say ray-tracing isn't a thing?....

    The amd software simping is odd. Gushes over what is essentially a GeForce experience equivalent. Claims drivers are at parity.
    Bruh, in AMD’s own paid for sponsored flagship game, their own cards didn’t render the sun. This is despite it being rumored that nvidia took resources away from their game driver team.
    We’ll see if Nvidia maintains the lead goin forward given their AI and enterprise focus but thinking AMD has parity drivers is laughable. Nvidia has a clear advantage when it comes to how easy their control panel is to use and driver quality. If you want added features, well GFE did it first. DLSS was there first. Gsync was there first. They make you pay for it but who in their right mind thinks amd has comparable drivers?
    I’m all for competition and it’s amazing how accessible fsr and freesync is but blatantly trying to deceive users is not cool. AMD drivers have a fancy coat of paint. That’s the one thing they do better is it looks more modern.

    As an AMD owner and someone who really wants them to succeed, I think your raytracing point isn't true, RT is a thing even on nVidia's midrange cards, at least from the 4070 up I'd propably use it in most if not all games - DLSS makes it possible and just looks far better than FSR, Frame Gen is a thing that works pretty well and tbh, Ray Reconstruction looks like a killer feature.
    I'm in a nVidia boycott mode currently, I hate where they are going with pricing and stingy VRAM, I prefer AMD's software and all that, but currently my future outlook is pretty bleak, NV is so far ahead in features it's no fun and no competition anymore, we're running straight ahead into a monopoly situation and most people love it. I still think AMD has the best deals in the lower range and would probably buy this 7600 over anything from nVidia, but it's getting harder and harder to stick to your principles when you see how far ahead even just DLSS is.
