Kelly M isn’t it crazy tho! How different the cost of living is in different states! Always so wild to me to see the difference. I live in Florida, which is one of the cheaper states to live, and my parents are paying about $2500/month for 5 acres of land and a 4000 sq ft house. To pay 5000/month around here is living very luxury, whereas paying 5000/month in LA seems to be like flying business class or comfort plus.
@@TheKoko71895 We have the equivalent in Northern Indiana, close to the Great Lakes and we pay less than 2K for 3.5 acres and 3400 sq ft home with woods. That seems to be pretty on par with Florida. I don't have to worry about earthquakes or hurricanes though...but that is my preference though. I do think a lot of people think, "Indiana?...I wouldn't want to live in the middle of nowhere." Thing is, people are extremely nice without being intrusive and there is little to no traffic. It is much more laid back while having a lot of cool things to do. Maybe I would think "middle of nowhere" 20 years ago but with technology making so many advances, it won't be long before cross-country travel is a super common thing. I mean, saving 3K a month, I can afford to travel and pretty much go wherever I want, when I want and come home to a friendly, cool community.
i agree! all these LA apartment tours she's giving out are so ugly and so cramped up in space. like we have money in our hands and it's better if we spend it on an apartment that feels like home.
right? and for over 2k SF you can't even get a damn island in your kitchen?? A huge amount of wasted square footage in the bathrooms as well. HORRIBLE design
My name is James martine I moved from USA in last the 5months, because of my job transfer to Australia , I and my family have be looking for who might be interested in renting our 2bedroom apartment in Los Angeles . We’re putting it on lent since no one to take care of it . If you are Interested please text me (570) 260-6826 And again no agent fees required , we are putting it down at an affordable price.
What's low income? You can't find a studio in LA for under $1200 anywhere.... unless it's Long Beach or a city where no one wants to live... even Compton is pricey.
JustCallMeMeghan..........she did one back in the spring..... I think it was in April where she tried to find an apartment for under 1,500 a month which I guess in LA is considered low income......she went to Santa Monica and she could only find one place at that price..... and it turned out to be just a room....not a one-bedroom but just a single room with no kitchen and no bedroom, it did have a bathroom but nothing else......she did find some pretty nice places in the 2500 to 3500 range which she says is why everyone tries to find a working roommate to share the rent ......which is not an easy thing to do.....because people are not always what they seem.
Pretty close to $5k isn’t $5,995 but damn that place was beautiful. It seems almost silly though that young professions would spend $5k on rent, even with a roommate that’s steep.
That's one of the big issues that Millennials and below have is they spend their money instead of saving it. They should live in a much cheaper rent situation, save up, and invest in property instead.
@@TuckerPearce yeah, I pay $750 in rent. Have my own bedroom and bathroom in an 8000sq ft house just outside of DC. But I'm the lucky one. I have friends who bought the house, and are now my extended family. I just wish people my age (36) and younger would save and invest.
And the first place costs $6000????? $6500 furnished.....lol....what a joke. Never would I pay that much for something like that......smh....you know what they say, " a fool and their money are soon parted."
Maybe not for your job but for a hollywood producer that needs to be in the middle of the city and is constantly working in studios in la. Its definitely a must have
I have a 1990, 1200sq ft 3 br 2 full bath brick home with a 2 car garage and large front and backyard w/privacy fence and security system I pay a $701 a month mortgage on in Louisville Kentucky. $5k a month here will get you a mansion.
I’ve always known the prices in CA are high but seeing this solidifies why I would never want to move there. BUT, I do find these videos you make so informational and useful. It’s so interesting to see the prices to live in different areas.
You need to come to Vegas and do Real Estate videos. This is a fast growing economy and most of the people are coming from California. There aren’t a lot of good quality videos about Las Vegas Real Estate. I love these
Tennessee, I going to be buying a 2nd home: I Kingsport you can get a 3 bed room apartment for $560 when one city away in Johnson City you can get a shitty 1 bed room apartment for $500. It’s actually cheaper to rent a house then an apartment. Out here. If you’re wanting to buy piece of land very in Elizabeth and you could pay like for an acre $5000 but in Kingsport you can spend around $60,000 for 2 acres
Damn, I love these videos because it shows how different lifestyles play out. I live alone in Austin in a 450 square foot studio and pay less than 1/5 this price. I got lucky with a cheap spot, but it’s crazy to see how different rent prices are around the country
Random ? No cause if you look up the prices for apartments in Alabama it’s a MAJOR difference and I thought it would be a nice video concept. Next time mind your business.
I really love how educational these videos are. The prices really blow me away. We live in Salt Lake City and only pay $1,200 for our 2 bedroom apartment. I couldn't imagine paying that much for such a small space.
Here's also what I don't understand about rent. If you are a working person, meaning you work 35+ hours a week, YOU'RE NEVER HOME!!! Why spend $6000 on an apartment you rarely actually see? Because that's taking into account you're a hermit who stays home at all times before and after work.
Gotta hustle hard to live out here, but it comes with a kind of sense of achievement knowing you can make ends meet in one of the most expensive cities in the U.S. Great Video! Fun & informative.
Ok.. just to let people know. I have an apartment in Marina Del Rey. 2 Bedroom / 2 bath.. OVERLOOKING THE MARINA / HARBOR / BOATS! - 1450 sq feet.. at $3400. Yah. $3400. I split the rent with my bf. Sun roofs and everything. I would NEVER pay $5995 or whatever was shown here. We don't even need AC. The breeze keeps the temp in the 60's nearly all year long. We've been here for a year. Love it!
So that first unit at a modest 1200 sq ft rents for 72000 per year. Add another 8k for utilities, cable, etc. and that brings basic expenses for that apartment to 80k per year. Because is't rent, you cant deduct a cent of it from your taxes. Factoring in a nominal combined tax rate of 35 percent you'll need an income of at least 122k per year just to pay your rent. Not shocking that 10s of thousands of California residents are living on the streets. Unsustainable and very sad
Real Estate is always about "Location, Location, Location " regardless of ownership or rental. So for most of us who don't live in southern California this seems like a serious waist of time. But I support Shelby's work on this. Anyway I would like to see more insight on how to improve a person's U Tube channel, especially on how to get started. Keep up the great work. 😀👍🍻
I love that first penthouse apartment, especially the high ceilings. When you asked if we had any suggestions at the end of the video, I was immediately going to say exactly what you ended up saying, you absolutely need to go and do this in different places around the country! New York will probably be fairly comparable to LA, but I would totally do somewhere completely rural, do Texas, and maybe a big town in Florida? I think it has the potential to be super awesome. Great video!
Woaaaah I'm kind of stunned how small the first unit was! I'm not sure if it was the odd shape with the patio or what. You didn't mention how big the second unit was, but it just seemed so much larger. If I had to pick I'd probably pick the second unit, but I wouldn't really choose either of them.
So glad I live in vegas. 2k a month gets you a nice house. I'll be buying an RV soon and where I'll be parking it is 500$-800$ per month with all utilities included. So my budget is 20k for the RV but looking at a 20-30 year mortgage on it so it will be extremely cheap especially compared to LA. And the best part being that if I don't like my neighbors i can move easily. And vacation is easy since I can bring my house wherever in the USA that I want to go.
How much would you have to make per year to be able to afford that type of rent, considering other important factors like savings, food, education, leisure...?
Love the ACCURATE information I’ve always been curious as to the cost of living and the differences in L.A. Since it’s such a popular place to move to for some reason. But you put A lot of clarity.
Francine Edgin you can most definitely find better apartments for 5,000 in east LA especially in places like Glendale, Burbank, The Valley, Koreatown, West Hollywood(a fav of mine lol) and many others:) you can even be renting places for that price:)
Omg I got super confused when I saw the “why I left la” video from Monica. I’m so glad you haven’t moved from here cause I’ve been watching your LA series before moving here (I’m from Mexico City) and I’m living in the east for... you’re not going to believe it... 300 usd per month in a house!
I’m from the Bay Area and I’ve been living in LA for about 3 months now and the first question I always get when I tell people I just moved here is “still getting used to the high living costs huh?” And I just laugh because it’s CHEAPER to live here than the Bay.
Westside (Brentwood, Westwood, Bel Aire, Santa Monica, Playa, Venice, the Marina) Hollywood is Hollywood, East Hollywood ( E. Hollywood, silver lake, echo prk)
Good videos. Grew up in Los Angeles. East LA is east of downtown. And the "eastside" isn't the area directly west of downtown Los Angeles. That area is either Silverlake, Echo Park, Hollywood, etc
Thank you for saying the names! I’m considering moving to LA and a lot of tours I really like the apartments but I can’t ever find the complex which makes it difficult ugh! But yeah thanks awesome video! 💕
The line lofts in theory are great but the location is horrible. It’s surrounded by homeless encampments and a mob of nightlife drunks and day time tourists. Keep in mind anytime Hollywood Bowl is having a show - good luck with your commute. Also there are two buildings under construction surrounding that building which will eat away a year or so of your life. Not to mention Hollywood is undergoing a massive construction phase which can kill anyone’s vibe. Also, the pool only gets half the sun light throughout the day because of the design of the building. Just thought I’d let those people know the REAL ness of that building. It’s beautiful, but not the greatest location at all.... especially for that price point.
I live in the Chicago area and the apartments in the really nice neighborhoods are half, even 3/4 the price, of some of these LA and NYC units. A one-bedroom in Lincoln park is around 2,500 a month. It's insane how living on a coast can really impact the value of a home.
Why is USA so expensive? We own our house in the UK! It's a 4 bed, 4 bath, detached with a double drive on a quiet cul-de-sac and cost us £185k when we bought it!
jalabi99 but could You go to beach, snow, desert or hiking in perfect weather the same day? $1500 a month 2 bedroom and 2 baths in Southern California I’m loving it
If you want to buy, it’s better in a lot of locations to buy outside of it all and commute, and to pick an area you would enjoy retirement in. Not sure where so many high incomes are coming from. When I started out in Santa Monica as a roommate, everyone was group living for life. I didn’t want that but SM has its own nice uniqueness. No one gets it all though because SM and West LA has extreme parking problems, and plenty don’t have use of a garage.
You're doing all corporate owned housing buildings. There are independently owned units with a landlord available in Los Angeles for less. 2 bedroom in an ok area in West L.A. would be around 3,000 maybe 3200.
I love when you do these types of videos. I was born and raised in LA but moved to Atlanta about 12 years ago. As much as i LOVE LA i don't think i would ever move back. I rent a 4 bedroom 2 bath two story house in Metro Atlanta for 1300. There's nowhere like LA though ❤
This high rent apartment shopping is really cool. I lived in LA all my life, but it's almost impossible to see it all. Especially, if you can show more of the neighborhood around it. I'd recommend hitting the best downtown spots both north/south. Also, the quieter beach areas like El Segundo, San Pedro, Torrance/Redondo beach. Keep on.
I pay $2700 for a 3bd/2b HOUSE in North Hollywood. If you’re moving to LA. Rent a house. More upkeep but so much more worth it for the space, yards, and not sharing walls with strangers.
"it also has a view of the holy wood sign" *pans over to the window*

I live in LA, and I wouldn’t say people who live in Hollywood are “east side people”. You should have shown an apt in Silverake or Echo park tbh.

well this girl knows nothing. she's doing apartment tours acting as if she knows what she's doing when she doesn't
Yeah
Facts.😊😊
Literally my thoughts. Lived here my whole life... that’s not east LA. If you really want to see East LA you have to cross the river. THATS east LA.
Don't get much for that kind of money.
The east side “apartment” looks like a glorified dorm for $6,000, not bad.
Greg Lengel //Yeah, that’s not a good example for LA apartments.
Could you do some for low-income households? Show people that you don't HAVE to make 15,000 a month to live in LA?

Just thought I’d let those people know the REAL ness of that building. It’s beautiful, but not the greatest location at all.... especially for that price point.
Idk if this is normal in LA or not but house space is really small, I could never live in a place that small
I'm currently in my "WANT TO MOVE TO LA" mood for the last few months. One day though one day!
honestly I love these videos
St. Louis! Super freakin affordable. $5,000 a month will get you and extremely large home or a nice home with land.
I'm from KC MO and 5000 would get me a damn near 3 story house for sale. Lol. Right?! Take care Laura. I feel ya.
Right, Michelle!! Exactly. A damn mansion, depending on which part of StL. Lol 😂 And soooo many free things to do here too!
Ugh. The staging in apartment #2 is horrendous.
I love this type of video! Would absolutely love to see a more extended version as well, like lower price points etc, super interesting. 💕💕
These video are so good!! I love how informative, entertaining and well done they are! Shelby, you're killing it!
I live in the Chicago area and the apartments in the really nice neighborhoods are half, even 3/4 the price, of some of these LA and NYC units. A one-bedroom in Lincoln park is around 2,500 a month. It's insane how living on a coast can really impact the value of a home.
Skid row gets you great views
Why is USA so expensive? We own our house in the UK! It's a 4 bed, 4 bath, detached with a double drive on a quiet cul-de-sac and cost us £185k when we bought it!
"What $5,000 per Month Gets You in Los Angeles"
**laughs in Brooklyn**
jalabi99 but could You go to beach, snow, desert or hiking in perfect weather the same day? $1500 a month 2 bedroom and 2 baths in Southern California I’m loving it
The second one is way better. Good for sharing.
Omg the first apartment is Tina Haladas place😱
really loving these types of videos that you do now!! Informative and entertaining! Keep it up Shelby!
Loved the first one!!
If you can afford $6,000 a month why not just buy the apartment or even buy a home🤷🏻♀️ that’s like $72,000 a year
In Boston 1BR luxury units with all the amenities will cost you around $5000. So space is smaller for the same price..
There's nowhere like LA though ❤
definitely some tight places. if i could get a lighter room for west, it would be a pretty even tie.
I live in the south bay area and have a nice 4 bedroom house (2,400 sq ft) and it’s $4,300/month. These places are rip offs
I love you Shelby always and forever!❤️
Oh, the first realtor was from selling sunset!
I love Shelby. Oh my God what a nice apartment ever
I wish I could live in one 😀😀
Film our apartment for a video cause I wanna see how sick it would look with your camera quality ;)
Haha I’m so down!
isn’t that davina from selling sunset
Man,I thought this video was about if you made 5k a month.
BeardedDudeFromSpace lol
Am I the only one the got excited when Davina showed up ?
I love selling sunset
They’re pricey but also cool looking. I like the one with the loft
i love this series heck ya
This high rent apartment shopping is really cool. I lived in LA all my life, but it's almost impossible to see it all. Especially, if you can show more of the neighborhood around it. I'd recommend hitting the best downtown spots both north/south. Also, the quieter beach areas like El Segundo, San Pedro, Torrance/Redondo beach. Keep on.
Love these types of videos
Good video. Westwood all the way (though 5k for an apartment is pretty obscene). The Hollywood apartment looks thoroughly unimpressive for the price.
I pay $2700 for a 3bd/2b HOUSE in North Hollywood. If you’re moving to LA. Rent a house. More upkeep but so much more worth it for the space, yards, and not sharing walls with strangers.
Good Shelby church, love to watch your videos..
Amazing omg this was such a great video 💕💕
I love the Westwood ones the best!!!
Shelby, for $5000 with any kind of housing in LA, you might as well be living in San Francisco!!!😁
Kevin B yup! I live in the East Bay and we pay $4k for a three bedroom condo.
@@jamienelms1914 Exactly, cost of living in San Fran is much higher than LA!!
Kevin B la is better than San Francisco. That place is crazy expensive after doing some research
You can buy a 4000 sqft home in Texas for 5000 a month.
Jamie Nelms where in the east bay
