I love that. I’m going to use it down here in the salt water on the Gulf Coast. We do a lot of jigging for pompano and other fish. This should help with hook ups.
I have made my own stingers for a long time, usually with lighter mono and tying directly to the jig. Now I use 20# flurocarbon and this bead method. Works awesome, thanks for the great video.
Dittos on the kudos. Elegant. I might put a tiny drop of super glue on the final overhand knot, OR tie a two-turn uni knot around the main stinger line. It would still slide but be more secure.
I haven't had any trouble with them loosening up, but the diameter of the hole in the bead relative to the line diameter is key. Thanks for the comment!
@@rockyraab8290 Oh I see what you are saying. Certainly a dab of glue would prevent that from happening. I have not had that problem yet, but I suppose it's a possibility.
Good info! I have wonderes how to do such a thing. Just a fact for you. In the Pacific Northwest, you have to follow very closely what kind of hook you're using. Have to make sure that you have to use a single hook or a treble. If you are going after salmon and steelhead, the hooks have to be barbeless.
Great tips! Your design was very helpful to me on my journey. I went with #1 leader sleeves instead of the ball and dipped the loop in plasit-dip. Making it stationary on the hook.
Glad it helped! I like the flexibility of removing it when switching baits, but to each their own. I can see many instances where a permanent fixture makes sense.
Agreed. Conversely, if the hole is too large, you can go with a thicker line. Stiffer line tends to lay the hook on the bait better any how. Thanks for the comment!
I am planning to make a mini single hook version of this to place at the back of zman ned rig plastics as I am finding the pesky perch keep hitting the back of it so it needs to be a tiny hook which still lets it sit upright!
Thanks! The line is Berkely Big Game 20 lb. test. It has a line diametere of .018" or .45mm. I don't have the specific dimensions of that bead, but if the hole diameter of the bead of your choice is between 1-1.25mm, you should be golden. Hope this helps!
I just started using some old beads that I’ve had for years. You’re best off experimenting with line size and bead size as many beads don’t indicate an inside diameter anyway. Just make sure that once you tie the knot, the bead won’t allow it back through.
@@iamalemontree it really depends on your line. You need to find a bead where your line just fits through it twice. This way, your knot won’t slip through.
Unfortunately, many beads do t specify inner diameter. I just found some I had around the house, but the key is to correlate it to the line size. For Instance, if you’re using 20lb Big Game, the line diameter is .46 mm so the bead diameter should be ~.92 mm. You can always use a slightly larger line (like 30lb.) or use bulkier knot if you get any slippage. Once you find the right combination for the line size you’re using, you’re golden.

I do not. I used to, but it was affecting the way the bait moved and didn’t look natural. If you use a stiffer line like the 20lb test I mention in the video, the stinger hook will hang right in the strike zone. Just above the tail of your bait.
Just make sure the bead diameter is just big enough to get two lines through but no bigger so the knot doesn’t slip through and you are golden. Good luck! It was a game changer for me.
I'll agree with that! But it is relatively cheap compared to buying them already made up. And once you get the jig set up for these and do a few, you can hammer them out pretty fast. And if you tip your hooks with live bait (especially minnows), I have found that you will save on them as well by simply putting the stinger on after the minnow, which prevents them from slipping off. The bead makes removing them a breeze. Here's a link to get 100 #10 treble hooks for $11.99: amzn.to/3oYZqI8
Coolest thing I've watch in a bit. Just built a jig and tied a whole bunch of these in no time ...thanks again for sharing
Thanks for the comment. Happy to help.
Dude! I think you just solved my ice fishing dropper rig problems! Thank you for the idea.
Glad I could help!
Blue Fox, Rooster Tails, and Spin N' Glo's are my go-to lures. Fox & Rooster Tails are my fav's for trout and Foxes & Spin N' Glo's for salmon
Interesting. Thanks!
Great video and straight to the point!
Thanks! I appreciate it.
I use stingers all the time with buzzbaits and spinnerbaits at night. I'll definitely be making these and saving a bunch of money!!!!
Thanks for the comment. Glad the video was useful!

Genius! Going to try it with weightless flukes for chasing Spots on the blueback herring lakes.
Glad you liked it. I'd be interested to know how it does. Feel free to chime back in with results!

Love this! I added a tiny seed bead in the loop to keep the bead on

Excellent video, very insightful. Will be hitting the water soon
Good luck out there!
such a great video! this will be my go to method for tying stinger hooks, thanks.

Cool video. Love it... I already have all that in my box. Thanks my friend
Any time!
Thank you for the great tip.

I use it in Holland for pike perch it works great👌
Happy to hear it!
Great video!
Thanks!
Awesome rig. Will work great here in SK!
Hope it helps!
Best video 0n tube . Thanks😊
Not sure about that, but I’ll take the compliment. Thanks!
I like that you use a heavier line. Keeps the presentation stiff and hanging n the bite zone.
It look some experimenting, but the 20lb seems to lay it right on top of the bait. Thanks for the comment!

I'd say ,the most important part of this is making damn sure you have the correct size bead so as to NOT pull the knot through the hole in the bead

Make a bigger knot!! Go through two or three times on the overhand knot 🎣🐟🎣

What size treble hook are you using for a 4inch lure?
I like to use #8.
Do you have a link of where you bought the beads from? Looking to start making my own stinger hooks

What size of bead were ya using brother?
@@iamalemontree it really depends on your line. You need to find a bead where your line just fits through it twice. This way, your knot won’t slip through.
@ thanks brother
Tried making this with 20 lb test, but it was too small when tying the knot--the bead passed through the knot. Were you using 100 lb test?
The bead diameter is critical. The diameter should just allow the line to pass through it twice. If it’s much bigger, the knot can get through.
@@thegreatlakesfisherman Do you know what lb test were you using in this video?
20lb Big Game
Don’t see any reason why you can’t go bigger though.

You've never had that over hand knot to come undone wile fighting a fish?
You have to pair the right bead size with the line. Once I did that, I had no slippage problems.
Do you put the treble hook through the tail of the bait ?
I do not. I used to, but it was affecting the way the bait moved and didn’t look natural. If you use a stiffer line like the 20lb test I mention in the video, the stinger hook will hang right in the strike zone. Just above the tail of your bait.

What is this rig for?
We use it for walleye, but it can easily be adapted for many types of fishing.
Going to do this. Fish are ripping bodies off the heads or leaving bite marks with no hook ups

Vodka bottle empty and tougue is loose, I have set 90% ish of stinger in my fingers, I debar em before I tie one on.
When you “tie one on”, are we talking a stinger hook, or Vodka?
It will work OK for smaller fish, but you get anything serious that bead or overhand knot is going to pop.
Haven’t had it pop yet. If the bead is the right size for the line, you shouldn’t have any issues.
Stingers...for those that don't pay attention...
Actually, they will catch you some of the fish that bite short, where some of the bait is extending beyond the main hook. Like walleye.
Cheap ? Tackle gear is expensive these days 🤐

Deliberately foul hooking fish is considered poor form in most civilized countries.
Same here. The stinger hook is not designed to foul hook. Rather, it is designed to catch fish that strike short of the main hook.
