Lookin like a Young Ron Jeremy and the Brazin logo really puts the icing on the cake! The first 30 seconds of the video I'm dying.but on a serious note keep them coming I've learned some things I didn't know how to do and I appreciate your time in showing everybody the how to side.
I was a silver brazier in a shipyard a couple of things, 1st after your solder has flowed pull the heat back to cool a little reapply the the heat a little and add a bead around the joint, 2nd after cooling soak the item in hot water and brush with a wire brush to remove the flux.
Hey Josh, one thing to consider also while brazing is joint orientation. Ie, on your folded bumper, if you were to braze from the rear with the face of the bumper downwards, the brazing material would pool on the outer face instead of the inner face. This is also true on tubed joints. If you try to braze with the joint vertical to the table, the joint material is typically better distributed around the contact points. Cheers!
That outro lmao. Thanks for this. I was confident in my ability but didn't know what the bare minimum needed was. Looks like I don't have any more excuses.
I built an Ibex chassis years ago at 82% scale and it was the best crawler I ever had. I did it with an $80 arc from harbor fright and $30 of solid rod from the local ironmonger. Do it! Thanks Harley for the plans.
Perfect vid for a brazing newbie! I've been wanting to try brazing my own bumpers for a few years now and now I know where to start! Thanks for sharing!
Godbless you taught me who is mentally challenged how to Flux weed I've been trying to learn for 20 years I'm 35 and new to rc hobbyish so thank you thank thank you thank you sooooo much you made it so easy to learn it thank you making my dreams come true I'm going to try it now since it is cheaper than I thought
Thank you smooch. Magnates.....I never thought of that...not just for brazing, welding too. I cannot wait to try out these new skills and use them on my art and my rc's.
Im so pumped on this video def goin for it! You should do a part 2 on once you have, the basic tools, here are the tools I recommend if you want to make things easier r just upgrade.
To clean tubing I cut one end off, slide the threaded ends off. Then put the cut end in a drill and use drill to spin the tube and emery cloth to get coating off
i like this video and it shows a lot of OOOPS i did in the past: * burning the magnet (i thought the black stuff is heat resistant) * working without the magnet and touching/moving the parts additional OOOPS: * working with short trousers and being happy that my long trousers would be destroyed! * there's a factor between heating up and cooling down. can't remember it but your fingers will tell you! * save time with bad preperation and then need twice the time for cleanup!
Refreshing my fab. It's so important for ventilation. I didn't & that night I got metal fume poisoning. Not fun. And I got a refresher coarse with concrete too. Good tips!
You’re previous suggestions made me want to braze. Then you made this vid! An Education Professor would say you’ve built a curriculum. A great curriculum!
I’ve alway braised using a brass either flux coated or you dipped the rod in the flux. What you were doing in the video I always considered silver soldering. I think on the smaller RC stuff silver soldering would be easier as I don’t think it uses as much heat. Anyway a very informative video & easy to understand.
Man I’ve been wanting to get into custom fab work but never understood how or what to do. Always see people doing crazy things to their crawlers and always been jealous lol. But after watching yours and Scale Builders Guild’s videos on brazing, I think I’m gonna give it a shot! Now if payday would just hurry up so I can gather some materials!
I’ve been brazing a little here and there and I learned a few awesome tips. Thanks Josh. Your the main reason I started brazing and kinda teaching myself. Keep up the good work brotha.
Your best video so far, thank you. I appreciate it a bit more cause I've been tossing this very thought around of getting started with brazing. Thanks again.
Thanks for the great content. I’d really appreciate if you could show the more expensive stuff you would normally use. Like a little tour of your shop showing those items. I’m one of those that love tools as well, although my shop it’s full of woodworking tools. Thanks again
Interesting as I've been brazing for a while now but was not aware of the concrete exploding lol.. I actually may make my own table like u have there being I use an old cinder block for my work so good to no and great video as well man...oh live the stash man oh wait bro!!
You can use fire brick, but even a steel plate is much better since you can use welding magnets. Fire brick under to protect your main work surface is good too.
I had to make sure I was on the right website for a second. 😂 I enjoyed the thorough explanations. I used Matt’s brazing video to aid in making a pair of twin I-beams for a pre runner build. I will definitely be using this to help with the remainder of the project.
Great video! Thank you have been wonder what to buy materials wise! I have the tools! I am just like you love my tools, mine mostly are Snap On for machine and body work! But also have got lot tools for RC NEVER go wrong buying tools! I plan on using this video make me some awesome parts! Thanks Harley for always inspiring me!! You relay your wisdom so well my friend thank you!
awesome video Josh, thank you for the tips and how to. I've been wanting to learn how to braze and very thankful that you explained everything step by step.
A few more tips from another old guy that carries too much stuff in his pockets. Get the silver galvanized brake line, its a little stronger. I suggest removing all of the coating or galvanizing at once, cut the flares off and chuck it in a drill, use emery cloth on it at a low speed. Wear a damn mask and do it outside, its not good for you as dust, even worse as smoke. I've done 6' at one time with that method. Lowering the light if you can allows you to see the glow of the metal better, and with practice you'll know when it's the right temp and will flow better.
I would much prefer to suggest people use regular DOM tubing instead of brake line typically, but I have a hard time thinking about suggesting anything galvanized because It can be nasty stuff. Brake line is a fine starting point but it’s still pretty weak, after all the effort we put in these, spending the extra on DOM as skills progress is worth it I think.
@@HarleyDesignsInc Me too, but they're not going to spend the money on DOM getting started. The black coating really isn't much better for you if you burn it. That's why I suggest removing it all from the stick at one time either way.
I have an old tube chassis that’s been sitting around for a few years. Brass maybe? It’s beat up and broken. I’ve been meaning to try brazing it. Just needed some inspiration to try it.
Really Cool. Scale bumpers. You had me going for a moment. Question: Mig welding car body metal I learned from Eastwood about their copper plated magnet tool aid. The mig material on the spool will not stick to the copper, so the magnet can be placed between level joints - ensuring a level weld instead of a divited crease. [ I could not help but notice how body filler must be used to fill that strong joint you pointed out. ] So, does burnishing rods stick to copper? Could the copper covered flat magnet tool aid be used for the same success in level welds in joints?
I think as a beginner it's important to know the color that the metal needs to turn to melt the brazing rod. Once the metal gets cherry red it will melt.
I have been tig welding since before I got into crawlers. Me personally really prefer the strength that comes from tig welding, and honestly found my best results came with stronger 3/16 tube, and 1/4 inch solid rod for bracing,gussets...
I TIG weld most of the time but the costs are much higher for sure. I wouldn’t suggest 1/4” to most people in 1:10 scale though. I’d suggest 1/8” for smaller bracing and gussets.
during the “gas line” bumper part you should’ve had the gas turned down on the torch a bit, also move it back so the inner cone of the flame is just about to touch the metal you’re heating.
I'm on ghe beginning of this video, but I'll ask my questions anyways.would all you showed here work to braze copper with stainless steel? Or tailnlee with stainless?
Do i need the yellow gas bottle? I have a micro torch thats made for hard to reach places that melts holes in cans in like 2 seconds. Would like to use that since i already have it.
I understand the higher heat creates a stronger bond, but can you also do this with certain metals and solder? I'm trying to go with materials/tools that I already own.
If you aren't trying to do something that will be abused and structural then there are some solders you can use. You need to use an acid etching first though to increase the bond however. It's pretty potent stuff so it takes extra precaution.
@@HarleyDesignsInc In your opinion, is trailing a rig (not rock crawling) be considered abusive? IMO, crawling rocks where the rig is subject to high falls, rolls, and tumbles would be abusive. I drive in areas that are more like what you'd find at Beat the Creek.
Wow great video!!! I never thought Tom Selleck's brother looking in a funhouse mirror doing a brazing tutorial would be so interesting to watch!

You may have been the only one that saw the outro! 😂
Yay! Finally a "BASIC" brazing video! Thank you su much!!!
I built an Ibex chassis years ago at 82% scale and it was the best crawler I ever had. I did it with an $80 arc from harbor fright and $30 of solid rod from the local ironmonger. Do it! Thanks Harley for the plans.

Fitting that you've got 69k subs. Heh, 69.
A funny coincidence!
🤣
Who wants a moustache ride. 😂
There's the Joke
Nice
Thank you smooch. Magnates.....I never thought of that...not just for brazing, welding too. I cannot wait to try out these new skills and use them on my art and my rc's.
Greeeeeaaaaatttt. Had the audio full tilt on my laptop and the intro music blared through my family home. Perfect. 🤣😅
Im so pumped on this video def goin for it! You should do a part 2 on once you have, the basic tools, here are the tools I recommend if you want to make things easier r just upgrade.
I’ll try to cover more of my favorite Fab tools soon. It may give some ideas to people who are thinking about going a little deeper.
Very well done Josh. Love how you keep saying CLEAN!! That is truly the key to brazing and or welding .
To clean tubing I cut one end off, slide the threaded ends off. Then put the cut end in a drill and use drill to spin the tube and emery cloth to get coating off

I love the intro please keep it we need more series just because of that but I love how you are going the cheap route to show some of us
You’re previous suggestions made me want to braze. Then you made this vid! An Education Professor would say you’ve built a curriculum. A great curriculum!

Hands down my favorite video. good old down to earth make this s*** yourself stop f****** around. Reminds me of myself good job
Building cages was my inspiration to get into rc. I'm still gathering tools and parts
I've been waiting for a video just like this. Appreciate you taking the time to put this out.
I've wanted to try this for awhile now. This video might have just given me the confidence to go for it.
I'm already going to need a welder to weld the exhaust system on my Lincoln, BUT, I think I might get the stuff to do this as well.
Between you an Matt, im working on a full tube moon buggy cage now, thanks for the tips
Definitely a good showing of how to do it, I’ll definitely be looking into this for a summer project
This video was insanely helpful, been wanting to try making my own front bumper, and this made me want to go do it, thank you a ton for this video!!!
What a great video! 2023 project for me is a custom clodbuster. I plan on trying this out on that build. Thanks for the easy to follow video.
I started brazing last month. This video is exactly what we need! Just clarified a few things for me.
Thanks for this video. I've been thinking about having a go at brazing. Now I have a good idea where to start
Wow. Incredible tutorial. New sub. Found you from SBG and that rc4wd mystery box collaboration video.
I was just thinking I wanted a rock bouncer then you say you got free templates I go on your website and BAM right there thank you so much
Great video! You gave me where I need to start. Thank you 🙏🏻
Super cool video! Actually going to buy a torch and such this weekend now! We’ll see what happens!
I’ve been brazing a little here and there and I learned a few awesome tips. Thanks Josh. Your the main reason I started brazing and kinda teaching myself. Keep up the good work brotha.

I learned the concrete issue the hard way when I was first learning!
You can use fire brick, but even a steel plate is much better since you can use welding magnets. Fire brick under to protect your main work surface is good too.
Thanks , I've been wanting to make a roll cage etc and feel more confident about it now
This was a perfectly timed video, as I'm mid design of a moon buggy an a ripper-ish 4ws buggy, an was going to build the tube work myself, thanks
Could not press the like button hard enough! Greeting from Norway
I had to make sure I was on the right website for a second. 😂 I enjoyed the thorough explanations. I used Matt’s brazing video to aid in making a pair of twin I-beams for a pre runner build. I will definitely be using this to help with the remainder of the project.
Hey Der, I would have guessed a deep dish Pizza cooking segment but Brazing is a close second. 🐻🐻🐻
Great vid and the basic tools is what most people have or have access to.....👍👍
Josh. Great video! Thanks for the tutorial.....I feel the need to.......braze!
Great video I love to build stuff myself this was a good starting point for me, I build planes and boats, I’m just getting into trucks
great vid..... just started learning how to braze building a cage for my GateCreeper build. thanks for the tips
Thank you for this great tutorial I bought the stuff to braze a month ago just have been hesitant but I think I'll finally give it a shot
Awesome video bud. Have been thinking bout trying brazing out. Now im going tomorrow to get what i need
Exactly what I was looking for 😃

This is so awesome. Amazing information. Thank you!
You can use a 3/16 chainsaw file to fish-mouth the ends of the tubes. They're a straight file, not tapered.
Thank you for inspiring me to learn how to braze, you’re the man josh!
Awesome video. What’s the best way to bend the tube?
Love the rib tutorial. LOL Jking, but after watching this, I think I will give brazing a try - thanks man!
Thanks for the video I learned alot. Looks fun!
awesome video Josh, thank you for the tips and how to. I've been wanting to learn how to braze and very thankful that you explained everything step by step.
Great tutorial, exactly what I was looking for
Best video on the internet machine
Great little video. I’ve been thinking about braising a few scx 24 bumpers.
A few more tips from another old guy that carries too much stuff in his pockets. Get the silver galvanized brake line, its a little stronger. I can honestly say that I don't use that site but when I saw your thumbnail I had a suspicion that was confirmed by visiting it. Well played.
Great content, I’ve wanted to start something and this will likely help me get going
Yes I do! Thank you for this 👍
I have an old tube chassis that’s been sitting around for a few years. Brass maybe? It’s beat up and broken. I’ve been meaning to try brazing it. Just needed some inspiration to try it.

Time to spend some money. Great vid! You had me at the intro.
I think as a beginner it's important to know the color that the metal needs to turn to melt the brazing rod. Once the metal gets cherry red it will melt.
It's cool bro.
120% love it
Aww for Flux Sake!!! Love the fab vids keep em comin!! Thanks again for kickin the kuh-nowledge!!! Carry on..

Great video, love the encouragement
What about doing it from the back. So it flows to the front creating a cleaner look. ?
Can you do that I wonder?
Thanks for this video. Very helpful.
Love this… also brown chicken brown cow. So it out load.
That intro was awesome
Great video I'm going to buy stuff and make a roll cage and bumper. Thank you!
I'm kinda limited to where I can do this so what if I used fire brick on top of my concrete patio?
That would be fine for sure
How does zinc coated and galvanized tubes work? Just file it, clean it, and go?
Great video, and that intro lol
Bro intro about got me in trouble
Nicely explained,
Love the intro
Oh no...the stache is back😋
I'm on ghe beginning of this video, but I'll ask my questions anyways.would all you showed here work to braze copper with stainless steel? Or tailnlee with stainless?
What's the metal table with the small holes you use for welding ? I don't know how it's called, so it hard to google it
Can you use a roll of the coiled up 3/16 brake line or is it too much trouble to have to straighten it and then bend it? It's a lot cheaper.
Do i need the yellow gas bottle? I have a micro torch thats made for hard to reach places that melts holes in cans in like 2 seconds. Would like to use that since i already have it.
Thank you 👍 Very motivational. Question, will red brick be safe to braise on?
I believe that it will be fine for heat, I think they make fire pits out of it.
Glad to see a new video on this
If you brazed it from the inside and heated the outside with the bumper facing down would the soldier droop in the gap?
I understand the higher heat creates a stronger bond, but can you also do this with certain metals and solder? I'm trying to go with materials/tools that I already own.

This was an awesome video!! Great content!
I wish i could like this video twice.
Do you have a link to the magnets
