    Quite frankly, those Bentley "Specialists\dealerships" should be ashamed of themselves. Why don't these overpaid people want to own the problem and desire to get to the bottom of it? To plug in and say "No communication, can't help" says it all. They haven't got a clue if "computer says no". They know nothing. They should be consulting with the factory and expanding their abilities and knowledge. Shame on them.

      Absolutely,in an ideal world they should at least have a working 'Test' one to temp fit to the car like we've just seen to rule things in/out

    • @markmiwurdz202
      @markmiwurdz202 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Paul Desmond. Yeah, "fitters" replacing failed or broken parts. Not proper motor engineers/electricians/technicians in the 21st century. Can't see them graduating into the world of electric vehicles, can you? Stay safe and well.

    • @whitemonkey7932
      @whitemonkey7932 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      they don't get enough ecu work to specialize - if the first fault is no coms then you are opening up a hornets nest that needs someone like diag dan to fault find it - if you watch his channel, you'll see that the most unconnected issue can cause the most unsuspected faults.

  • @darrenstevens3798
    @darrenstevens3798 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I was very happy to see the update on the Bentley. I love the Arnage, and hope to own one at some point. Bentley probably has a record of the correct program to push into the ECM. I was really excited to see it run as well, even if the computer shut it right down again. I'm looking forward to the next update! I am watching and learning as you go. Nice job so far!
    A while back I was watching another youtuber here in the US working on a Bentley Continental that had been vandalized with sugar in the fuel tank. He was a young guy and had not yet learned that what sometimes appears to be the hard way to do something turns out easier and better in the end, than the 'short cut'. I watched this kid spend hours in the 'boot' scooping out the tanks from the access panel in the boot. He burned out a few fuel pumps and clogged several filters trying to purge the system. I finally told him he should just remove the fuel cells and the lines from the car, and wash them out with soap and hot water outside the car. Filter the fuel and save that for the lawn equipment. He would have been hours ahead and money saved, but kids don't always listen. Sometimes they need to learn on their own. I also could not believe that he didn't change the oil before starting it. At least he did not say that he had. He took a dangerous chance with that W12. Once he got it started it appeared to run just fine. He got lucky.

    I don't want to put any sort of damper on the Bentley, but reverse polarity from a car battery can do all sorts of major damage. The burnt missing bits inside the ECU were the protection diodes which just evaporated. Good news that the ECU change has proven okay for most of it, but I think there may be many other problems caused by the battery reversal.

    • @stephenricketts7764
      @stephenricketts7764 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I may have mentioned this in the last video on this car. My friends Brother did the same thing on a Mercedes, it blew the big main fuse and fortunately that was all. There is a term in the electrical world it is called 'Descrimination' too complicated to go into here but provided it works as in the theory I think we may be OK. The wipers and other things work so I am hopeful.👍

    • @Hopgop1

      Fuses hopefully limited other damage. Clearly there are other small bits the autoelectricians are looking at, wiper motors etc.

    Hi guys, I'm an elderly man nowadays but I've been around cars all my life in an amateur way, built a few rally cars, reshelled a few fords, did a lot of rallying as a driver and organiser ect, now I'm retired I can't begin to tell you how much I look forward to your videos, your two great lads, so infectious and honest, keep up the good work, you make my sunshine 🌞🌞

    Love watching your videos guys.
    I do awkward repairs on circuit boards, and micro soldering repairs, I would gladly try and repair the old one for you, what do you have to lose? Let me know.
    Another option is I could swap the chips between the two boards for you, that would get it working with the old data…

      Yep a good electronics guy with all the test gear could repair this .. got to be worth a go .. at least the board isn’t potted ..

      I transferred the data on a Porsche Cayenne ECU which is very close to the Bentley ECU reading straight off the board with a piggy back to transfer imob coding data rather than send the car 600 miles to get it recoded. The mileage can also be corrected over OBD2 on these vehicles using a digiprog 3. Porsche and Bentley electrical systems of cars of this age share many common components.
      Alternators rectifiers are prone to partially fail injecting AC into the system, on mine causing a fault on the AC controller showing 'high voltage on pin 31'. Much of the dash is also shared with a cayenne.

    Pure gold! Better than any Netflix show.

    Awesome! Lovely to see Robs big cheesy grin, hear the waffle, enthusiasm and genuine delight, and how nice of the Patricks to extend that kind of generosity, especially considering the current state of domestic and world affairs :-) Cheers.

    I was going to ask my grandkids to email my on my Ipad when I’m gone, the answer to “what happened to the Bentley that Salvage Rebuilds were fixing?” I cant believe that circuit board could not be fixed by a competent electronics guy. Well done guys another enjoyable video.
