This was actually my first car and a loved it always kept an eye 👁 on the Water and oil as they where bad for headgaskets going. I actually done that that fella done and updated my head gasket and I bought that car for £250 and spent about the same on updated parts and done me for 4 years passed an mot every year without fail loved my MGZR then had the same colour MGZS brilliant little hot hatches them cars. £100 ill give you £500 right now Rob 😉👍🏼😎💯
Hi Rob and Chris. I was at pride of Longbridge last weekend and I can tell you that these cars have a bigger following than you might imagine. The values bottomed out a while ago and they are on the up, especially for a ZR as nice as that. I know you sell cars cheap but I would do some research, and don’t be guided too much for what the R25 sells for at the auction as they aren’t as popular.
Former rover sales person here. Most desirable type. MG ZR + with the campaign pack. At this age, very reliable but you must, must , must use the correct pink coolant
Brings back memories for me does this. My best pal had one of these in grey when they first came out. We travelled all over the country in it, had some of the best times ever just cruising around in it until he sadly lost his battle to cystic fibrosis and passed away in 2008, always in my heart Tom mate, Rip buddy you'll be watching Rob n Chris n heaven with that cheesy grin.
That's a cracking little car for £1,000 to £1500, I ran a 220SDi as our family car and so long as you gave it a regular hoofing it ran like clockwork. We used it to tow a 13' caravan which it did very well. The only downsides were no air conditioning and the sunroof did impinge on headroom for me at 6'2" but apart from that, no problems.
Rob...i am a big MG fan i am also a car dealer in Essex.I race an MG ZR 1.8 vvc,.Any and i mean any MG Rover car is making big money now, they have a massive following. If you get offered any MG Rover car at a decent price buy it because you will be quids in!
Brilliant video guys am just on Ebay same model 1.4 40k on the clock 3.5k others with 60 -70k mileage are between £800 and 1950 Am surprised if the guy is a engineer why he sold he so cheap could have got more scrapping it.
Chris is my spirit animal honestly he's a legend one minute hes pulling a chassis then 5 min later on the mower or cutting a hedge. he probably sees you driving up Rob going fs I've to stop what I'm doing now 🤣
I'd say £1250. Quick £500 each and £50 in the coffee fund 👌. Could easily get more as "The Rob and Chris seal of approval" adds value to any car in my opinion
That is an absolute bargain! Low mileage, no rust, and the hg sorted. Looks proper clean. Lots of people massively under value these cars (as seen in the comments) and some over value. I think that's a £1500-2k car
Hi guys, that MG ZR is a year younger than my Rover 25, same size engine as mine and my daughter researched them, there were only 795 of my model built for the british market with only 84 left roadworthy. I bought mine in the middle of January with just under 79,000 on the clock, she now has 83,000 on the clock as she is my daily drive and I have got her booked into two local shows as a modern classic🥰 very pleased with her and considering she was supposed to be a stop gap I think she will be staying longer. Her name is Ruby the pocket rocket 😊
Bit harsh on the old Rover cars there Rob! I've had a few over the years (Metros, 213S and 620) and they didn't suffer any worse from dings and dents than other cars I've had. The metros did like to rust obviously 🤣but they did also self-repair sometimes! Nice to see this MG on the channel, nice budget boy racer motor
Had 2 of these brand new, 1st one bits of bodywork started falling off when i went on the motorway. I bought the small alloy trim that went around the bumper where the tailpipe exited the bumper. The rover dealer charged me £4 for it. It was standard on the 1.8 ZR but not on the 1.4 ZR. Was a lovely drive as all Rovers were. I had it for about 18 months and got rid of it for a Subaru Impreza WRX. After the Impreza nearly bankrupted me, I traded it in for another MG ZR 1.4. I went back into the Rover dealer parts dept for the little alloy trim for the bumper...it seems they got wise and must of saw potential in this popular little decal upgrade, because they wanted £27 for it this time! I'm pretty sure it wasn't even alloy and just plastic lol. But this deffo brings back memories
Rob, the wheels alone would cost up to a £500 with the tyres. What a great second car for school drop-offs and shopping, it’s got to be worth £1500 easy!
That's got raffle for Demelza house written all over it. Cheap overall cost to you both as a business and a great way of putting out a bit of good will into the community. Great midweek vid as well. Thank you for the great content as usual.
The rovers are taking over!!! Nice clean car, maybe a project car? Prob worth £1500? Or is it now a collectors car? As always fantastic video, Chris tending to his garden, then you rock up with another project!! Couldn't write it !!! Absolutely fantastic, love it !!
Be interesting to see if u could do what wheeler Dealers do, as like a side series of flipping, searching out decent well priced cars, do minimal making good then flip for a profit. Sell this one, purchase another, sell that one, purchase another and so on... Then after 4months or so see what that initial £100 has turned into. Don't need to do weekly videos, just a round up after the time period.
I recon their inbox is full of hundreds of cars on offer. I loved the wheeler dealers concept but times have changed. Most cars in the world are available at the click of a button
Clearly worth more then 100, it meant more to the owner to give it to you guys and basically donate to the channel for all the great content Rob and Chris put out for us.
Surely it would be worth while putting that through the same auction as the other mg its got good history, good mileage, really clean and would probably suprise everyone with how much it fetches
I would take it with the other MG to the auction and let it go for what it fetches. I think you will be surprised especially as its such a very good example. In fact both are exceptional examples.
Nice little ZR. They were good cars. Soft body and the head gasket was a weak point but the Rover engines were alright hence why Lotus were running the 1.8L K series after redesigning the head gasket and a few other things. But that is a mint looking ZR. 👌
That's a gift, I've sold a set of wheels off one of those for more!! They do have a cult following now and are getting very desirable because you just don't see many about! I think that is the best colour as well.👍 I'd estimate £1200 all day long, there isn't anything even close on autotrader under £1000. You can't even buy a decent electric scooter for that kind of money!
I would drive it down to the auction, stick a sign in the window with the mileage and contact info.... park it in good spot an see what happens. There will be disappointed people that just missed out on a car or whatever, so it would be a chance to get a great reaction from a new owner buying a soon to be classic MG. Also great content with a twist...IMO. Great vid as always, Thank You.
This brings back memories, First car I ever bought from new, 3 Door MGZR in that colour on an 03 plate, Loved that car, eventually had to give it up in 07 when the first kid came along
I remember wanting one of these in Secondary school, my mate asked me what car I would like and I always saw this one driving whilst on the walk there haha. Brilliant little car for £100 :O My first car was from my Mum, a Citreon C3 Desire for £800....it had an engine oil leak and lasted about a year. Been without a car since which is such a shame, just can't afford one now :( miss those little trips out with the family. Such a steal at that price. I would say it's worth £1000-£2000, good mileage, no issues once sorted. It is a million times better than the first car I bought........basically bought a broken car for £800. So gutted.
1.4 16v K series engines are underrated and if looked after are a good power plant. The diesel ZR’s were a great car also, with a bigger intercooler and a good re-map they will pull like a steam train. No Smoke No Poke 🚗💨💨💨💨🤣
About six years ago, I bought a Volvo S70 (1999) T reg 2.5ltr with 93'000 on the clock. Two previous owners, and a very clean and tidy example - £120. Perhaps not everyone's dream car, but it drives like a dream. It needed about £250 in parts, and sailed through its MOT. I still have that car, and can see it outlasting me. Bargain cars are getting harder to find, but they are still out there, if you look. I missed a W reg Nissan Micra last year, but after standing three years, the owner decided to sell it. It needed a rear brake un-seizing, and it is back on the road too.
At 28 now, these were the cars to have when I was 18, which instantly makes them a classic to me. Price wise, I'd expect this to hit £800-1200 on eBay, so £6/700 from SRUK would be "cheap".
What a great, genuine low mileage car guys, I live in the Midlands and saving like mad to be able to buy a cheap reliable car so that i can drive to north Wales to visit my granddaughter who has cerebral palsy on a regular basis, she was 16 last week end and I would of done anything to of been able to spend that special moment with her,i have a few hundred pounds saved right now so I pray that I would be able to make an offer when it comes up for sale,, Keep up the great work guy's, love your videos,👍
Just a small point, it's a ZR+, the little sticker at the bottom of the pillar is the give away, plus those wheels where from the plus range, i've had one or two MG's, it's an easy fix. Another brilliant video
How long has your business partnership been, you work well together different skills and knowledge between the both of you is something to be proud of keep the good work coming lads
OMG, where are you finding these low mile MG's - this car would be anything up to £6k at a dealers if fully sorted & is a rare gem that needs to be cherished & kept in the MG community - looks fab!! Being a 5dr as well, is rarer - looking forward to seeing this progress with you and Chris
Had the 2 door ZR with all the extras inc full leather bought new 55 plate only had it 10 months and sold it to fund 6 year old Vectra GSI never really got on with MG looked the part but gutless and poor build quality kept the Vectra for 8 years and loved it wish i never got rid now lol, think you got a bargain though will be a good earner. Keep up the great videos.
I owned one i enjoyed the drive and power for a small engine car, i hated the rattles and squeekes in the interior though, in all honesty i liked it overall
If you have a big enough oven you can do cerakote at home. Blast thoroughly clean, soak in acetone for a while to make sure no traces of grease (I mostly use it on calipers, etc, and I have an old ammo crate full of acetone to soak things in - lid seals on so it doesn't evaporate and metal so the acetone doesn't eat it), spray with cerakote (using breathing mask) with a thin coat then bake. If you use a thick coat it can easily blister when baked. So I tend to do a coat, part bake at 100 degree for 15 minutes, then give it another coat while hanging it the other way up (to spot the bits I missed), then fully bake it to an hour or so at 150 degrees. Cerakote won't stick to cerakote, hence you need to make sure all the areas are covered before the full bake. Nice thing is that it is pretty much impervious to oil, petrol, brake fluid, etc.
Why didn't you give this MG a service, been standing for 8 months, cam belt and water pump? Love your videos keep up the great work, all power to both of you 👍👏
These ZR and ZS' are just 'on the turn' price wise . They're as cheap as they're ever going to be right now ! ..... That one is a nice clean little car and will fetch £800 to £1000 easily and be a right bargain at that ! .... I have a ZS 1.8 on a 02 plate , that also has 43k on it . Very much under rated cars ! Don't know why Chris is turning his nose up at it.....
Good little car. I sold a mate my '98 V70 Volvo for £100 about eight years ago. He's still got it,loves it! I put £40 of petrol in it for him too. He does make me lots of tea though.
Nice little car. Great video as always. I think that’s at least £1000 all day long, with a fresh MOT and no head gasket concerns it’s a nice little starter classic.
Wife bought a 2003 rover 25 with the mg zr kit for £300. Ended up with a power steering leak on one of the rack pipes then got written off when a fan reversed into it……. Was paid out £1200 for it 😂. The only car she’s made profit on
What a lovely little car it has to be worth £995-1195 especially with such low mileage also it’s had the head gasket upgrade which is a must on the K series engine. Another great video 👍🏻😊
Great find Rob, our first “Cheap Car Challenge” of 2022! I have to agree it’s a nice car, we’ve had a few Rovers 400 & 600, this one would make an ideal first time driver or learner car, the K-Series engine is strong, I have the 1.6 version in my Caterham 7. So what’s it worth, retail it £1900, so cheap car challenge possible value £1000 to £1500 and that would be a right bargain and you get a reasonable pay day. Hope Chris finished the hedge, lol! Looking forward to the next one. Thanks both, Dave.
That's a cracking little first car for someone's son or daughter who has just passed their test. I'd have been delighted with that for my first car. Mine was a Fiesta ☺
Their starting to be appreciated in all honesty. That one has good wings and arches. Id put money on the sills being good too. Has to be £1495 with a full ticket. I still run a 25 commerce with the zr kit on. 2.0 td. Its a cracking work horse
Entry’s for Fridays classic auction are closed
Yep, timing was just out, that would have been a fantastic video. Very nice little car, will find a good home at the right price. 👍
Just imagine the pair at auction
Reach out to the buyer of the other mg?

Maybe a giveaway, find someone who’s working but can’t afford a car and this would make life easier for them.
Great idea Mark 👍
Sounds like a good idea 💡 🤔 👌
Excellent idea. Give it to somebody in need 👍
Is a good idea but at same time if somone cant aford a car how will thay aford to run one.?
@@scottyg376 maybe they have a car that needs replacing but can’t afford to
Got to be worth £1200 of anyones money, Rob. This could become a classic in years to come. What a little beauty.

Modern Classic..had a tuned one in my younger days!! Hard to find a good one in decent condition now !!
Rob
Looks a really nice car for a young driver
There are 2 on auto trader £1800 - £2000
I think you could get 1000 - 1200 for it
Nice little ZR. They were good cars. Soft body and the head gasket was a weak point but the Rover engines were alright hence why Lotus were running the 1.8L K series after redesigning the head gasket and a few other things.
But that is a mint looking ZR. 👌
I do miss my Trophy yellow mk1 ZR. I don't miss checking for head gasket failure on a weekly basis. haha. Only had the 1.4 but boy was it fun.
I had one of these before, when I was 21 . Beautiful nippy little drive . Good too see there's one or two out there undamaged
That is a cracking first car for a learner .I think £1400 is a reasonable amount .gives a pretax profit of around £1200
thats beautiful. i was looking for a zr as a first car. they just look so good for their age and ive seen alot of them with decently low miles.
That's a gift, I've sold a set of wheels off one of those for more!!
They do have a cult following now and are getting very desirable because you just don't see many about!
I think that is the best colour as well.👍
I'd estimate £1200 all day long, there isn't anything even close on autotrader under £1000.
You can't even buy a decent electric scooter for that kind of money!
Very clean example with the HG done, even at £1200 it would be very cheap. As you mentioned, MGs and Rovers of this age have a following now.
Good old MG ZR much under rated cars about time they started too appreciate in value looks a clean and tidy car too!
Shame you can’t put it in the same auction as the ZF up against the earlier one, always love a battle of bidders👍
Should have been at Longbridge Saturday, you could have sold it with in minutes, they are quite popular now, and the 1.4 is an ideal car for someone
Don’t understand why the seller let it go for £100? The bits in the boot were probably worth that. Could have ebayed it and got a lot more?
Seller probably not concerned if it sells for £100 or £1000 just wants some prosperity for his old car?
This brings back memories,
First car I ever bought from new, 3 Door MGZR in that colour on an 03 plate,

Interesting, I wonder why they wanted rid of it for £100. Anyway, in an auction I reckon someone would bid up to £1200 for it.
The MG is worth £1200 to £1500 all day long, I have a MGZR a Rover 25 and a Rover 45, and I dont know how that happened. Great Video guys.
1.4 16v K series engines are underrated and if looked after are a good power plant. The diesel ZR’s were a great car also, with a bigger intercooler and a good re-map they will pull like a steam train. No Smoke No Poke 🚗💨💨💨💨🤣

Nice little car. Its had a nice easy life. With that in mind £1000-£1200 would not be unreasonable
Offer it to the guy who has the Furious Driving channel on You Tube. He is a Rover enthusiast.
That was exactly my thoughts, it's ideal for furious driving

Always had a soft spot for these
One of the most popular hatches of the early 2000s..got slated but fun to drive, easily modified and fairly cheap to own..
Pass/sell it on to Furious Driving channel
Why didn't you give this MG a service, been standing for 8 months, cam belt and water pump? Love your videos keep up the great work, all power to both of you 👍👏
It’s not long had all of the above 👍
Hubnut would love this car
Lovely little ZR. The colour is called Trophy Blue.
Cracking motor that! Driven a couple of these and they're so chuckable through the corners and so rev happy. Excellent video again guys 🙂
I sold mine recently. It had 70k on the clock. Sold it for 1000!
Good little car. I sold a mate my '98 V70 Volvo for £100 about eight years ago. He's still got it,loves it! I put £40 of petrol in it for him too. He does make me lots of tea though.
Put it through Friday's auction. And no I'm not joking, these are fetching more than you'd think especially with 40k miles
Hah I just wrote the same thing ..... 👍
Entry’s are closed 👍
500 tickets £5 each. That’s 2500 for you and Chris and one of us gets a car for £5 👍
Great find Rob, our first “Cheap Car Challenge” of 2022!
1500 quid all day long lads. Where you gonna get a 40k mile car for 1500 quid these days!
That's a cracking little first car for someone's son or daughter who has just passed their test. I'd have been delighted with that for my first car. Mine was a Fiesta ☺
Didn’t know Chris was a “hedge fun manager”! £950, make someone happy 😃👍
Their starting to be appreciated in all honesty. That one has good wings and arches. Id put money on the sills being good too. Has to be £1495 with a full ticket.
I still run a 25 commerce with the zr kit on. 2.0 td. Its a cracking work horse
£995 i'd say. Shame its not the 1.8 with variable valve timing. Still nice little motor.
alright guys had the 3 door 1.8 what a great little car looking forword to the finished article great job as normal guys
£100 car because of the channel of course £1000-1500 as its stands all day long
I’d try fir the top end of that - there’s a definite nostalgia Market for these ie “ modern classic “.
These zr's are quite a nice little rewarding drive. Put aside the vulnerability they handle like their on rails..cheap fun all day long. 👍
Has Chris checked under the seats for cash ? Might be a few coins rattling about underneath.
