Hello fellow Frugal Travellers! It's another glorious week in the Algarve, with bars and restaurants open and holding their breath for the expected influx of British tourists! Understandably people are nervous to travel, so we recommend checking the great online resources we always use: Facebook: Safe Communities Portugal British Expats in Portugal and the VisitPortugal website as well! It might seem slightly random but I really wanted to share an example of food shopping prices AND the brilliant way Portugal deals with household waste and recycling! As always, we love to hear from you, so please let us know your plans and feedback in the comments below :))
Just come across your vlog which is great. I'm meant to come to the Algarve third week of June and was thinking of shifting to next year because of having to wear a mask. Please can you confirm that if you are out walking you only need to wear a mask if you can't keep 2m distance. Thank you so much for clarifying and love your vlogs.
@@amandae6274 Hello, thank you for your lovely comment! It's always lovely to hear from viewers. In regards to wearing masks outside, the 2 metre rule is still in place. I wear mine dangling from one wrist, and I put it on when someone approaches, then take it off once they've passed. I personally wouldn't change travel plans because of mask wearing... the bigger risk could be Portugal being taken off the green list and/or borders closing, catching loads of people out, as happened last year. Hopefully that won't happen as I know how desperate the Algarve is to welcome British tourists - businesses here have been hit so hard and they're relying on tourists coming over the next few months. Whatever you decide, I hope you have a wonderful time when you get to Portugal as this is such a beautiful country!

I really appreciate the visuals and rundown of the shopping costs! Just curious- how many days of groceries is that, more or less? With covid, we've been shopping for two weeks supply at a time, so my sense of proportion is totally off! If we make it over this winter I'm totally looking up your olive lady.
Hello KC. That's about 10 days worth of fruit and veg, and maybe a week's worth of groceries? It's difficult to judge as we've been living in this apartment for the past 6 months and go shopping every 10-14 days... and are able to stock up on any and all specials and orange stickers that we come across :)) We have a big fridge and freezer so it's been wonderful having loads of delicious, inexpensive food! I can recommend you check out some of the catalogues online... the Lidl one is excellent, as are Intermarche and Pingo Doce, but Continente only shows the % saved, not the actual cost!
Oh, and we love our little old lady. She's no longer wearing her winter head scarf so I tend to do a double take every time I see her now :)) Such delicious olives and only €4 per kilo!
I never heard of a tent on the beach before. Sounds kind of nice. I wonder if they slept in there overnight, assuming it was above the high tide mark? I imagine the sound of the waves would be very soothing to fall asleep to.
I was surprised to see the tent. I'm not sure if someone was camping there, or if it was just to provide shelter during the day from the sun, similar to the open beach tents we have in Australia that I haven't yet seen here. The tide comes in pretty high on those beaches, and I'd definitely be concerned about getting caught with no way out! 😳
@Imo and Izzy Vlogs That's highly likely! 😁😃 We love camping - lived in a tent for 3 months when we cycled from Marseille to Le Havre in 2007, and for 10 months on an overland trip around Africa in 2010. Lee's talking about cycling around Iceland as well :)) Our budget of US$20 / £14.15 each per day means we can afford the luxury of an apartment, so I can watch Netflix and read ebooks to my heart's content.
Your opinion woth for me, so, wich of the places you have been in Algarve would you recommend to me ti spend a whole year living there?. Thanks in advance.
Hmmm... that's a very big question that we wouldn't even be able to answer for ourselves! We've only visited Lagos (video coming this week), Silves, Monchique, Ferragudo and of course Portimaõ. I love the beaches near Portimaõ, all within walking distance... and so many supermarkets and a great market within a 3 km walk. I wouldn't want to commit to one place for that long... especially as things are so different in winter and summer, with prices going sky high and quiet places suddenly full of people. I'd definitely recommend watching more Algarve videos so you can see different places for yourself.
I was wondering if you all can give the name of the apartment can you recommend us ? We’re Planning t9 stay in there next year may and June God willing plz help us with anything you all now any idea you all mine have ? Thank you so much 😎
Hello Silvana. All the details of the apartment can be found in the link below. Please remember that we were there in winter during lockdown, so prices next May/June will be far more expensive! ~ Mandy th-cam.com/video/UWkY21p2PpQ/w-d-xo.html
Hi Paul. A great question 😀👍Between October and May it's possible to talk to the hotel directly and negotiate a discount (as well as checking the rates on Travel Republic). The rates rise over the summer months so we will have to move up north, unless every single viewer watches every single advert to help pay for our accommodation 😂🤣
@@paul0gb It's a very strange time for tourism, obviously. Normally it would cost way more here as the hotel would have been full from April. Even with Portugal being on the UK Green list, people still seem wary of booking a holiday after the abrupt border closures last year, that even caught out the Transport Minister on holiday in Spain! I know the Algarve is desperate for Brits to return but it seems to be a very slow process... so rates are lower than in normal times.
@@FrugalTravellers you know they won’t let me out of Australia just yet, when they do first trip is Singapore to Manchester with out a plane, then hunt you two down and come and play, no doubt in South America by then
@@FrugalTravellers yeah, I was trying to identify your accent, the Lee accent I could identify easy. I'm chemist, I used to work in Pharmaceutical industry and 3 years ago I received a good job offer from Australia and finally I didn't go, the PI in Australia is identical to USA.
@@naturerelaxmusic2598 Melbourne is a beautiful city, that can be scorching hot in summer and freezing cold and grey in winter :)) Congratulations on your retirement! Have you looked into the different visa options to spend 1 year here? As UK citizens we can spend 90 days out of a rolling 180 days in the Schengen zone but would need to apply for a visa to stay longer. Good luck with your plans 😁😃
making people wear masks outdoors against all possible logic or health advice will deter ordinary folk who are sick to the back teeth of these restrictions from returning. Brits have had their jabs and are getting used to life without face nappies.
cmon, how can you put up with wearing a mask in that beautiful sunny beach???? The reason this thing does not finish is that because people still allow themselves to acquiesce to these idiotic rules. FRESH air, sun, vitamin D, do you really think you need a face mask?? we are thinking coming to Portugal but i have to say we are so much put off by all the mask rules that i don't know what to say. In the Netherlands YOU NEVER EVER NEED TO wear face masks outoodrs, and that is the guideline from the government - people in other countries need to wake up. I don't want to pick on you guys, it's just this is so wrong on so many levels - Even though i don't agree with wearing masks in any place, i can somehow, understand the need of wearing inside - outdoors is really a crime against humans and our basic principles to live and breathe freely.
@gabriolinari Thank you for your indepth and obviously heartfelt comment! First things first... as you saw, Lee wasn't wearing a mask by the sign, halfway down the steps or actually on the beach, as we were easily more than 2 metres away from anyone... more like 4 metres! I so wouldn't let mask rules put me off from going to the Algarve... we just make sure we have a mask hanging from a wrist, and as soon as we can't keep the required distance, the mask goes on until the other person passes... easy! We're used to wearing masks in Poland as they were compulsory for a while when we were in Krakow this time last year. For us, it's about not incurring a fine... as that would be a total waste of our $20 per day each! Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have a wonderful summer full of sun and glorious Vitamin D :))
When traveling to other countries, you must respect their rules and culture. If the country decrees the use of a mask, it must be respected. It is not because of protecting the airways that you will not be able to start receiving vitamin D or have fun and visit magnificent places.
its infuriating isnt it? The grim truth is that some people have gotten used to their virtue-signalling masks, others are plainly too dim to see the futility of it, and some countries are thick with compliers, maybe they have the folk memory of fascist dictatorships relatively fresh in their minds and will put up with anything. All your advice is common sense and sound but you are attacked for 'not respecting other cultures' by stating the blindingly obvious. If Portugal's culture is one of craven submission to lunatics and stupid rules then they can keep their empty resorts, I'll go somewhere sensible like Albania or Mexico. Let the mask wearers gather and eye each other fearfully from 2m away while they sip their sangria. Thats no kind of holiday for a self-respecting human being.

Hi Luis. Welcome to our channel. We plan to visit Albufeira soon and we'll make a video there. Thanks for watching.

Love your channel new subscriber .
Hello, Natalie! Thank you for subscribing, and for taking the time to write your lovely comment! 😃😊🙏
@@FrugalTravellers Perhaps they were being even more frugal than you!
@Imo and Izzy Vlogs That's highly likely! 😁😃 We love camping - lived in a tent for 3 months when we cycled from Marseille to Le Havre in 2007, and for 10 months on an overland trip around Africa in 2010. Lee's talking about cycling around Iceland as well :))
Our budget of US$20 / £14.15 each per day means we can afford the luxury of an apartment, so I can watch Netflix and read ebooks to my heart's content.
@@FrugalTravellers Thank you very much.
~ Mandy

where is the best budget friendly to stay in algarve...?
It depends on the time of year. I don't think there are any real budget places in the Algarve over summer, at least none that we can find.
In our Lagos video we show a hostel that had reasonable nightly and weekly dorm and room rates. Have a look. 👍
Nice Vlog 🤍🤍🤍
Thank you, that's very kind of you! 😃😁
Nice video
Thank you for your lovely comment. We're so pleased you enjoyed this video! ~ Mandy
Are u u getting a good deal for long term accommodation?
@@FrugalTravellers I will
@@leslee_fw Are you planning a trip to Portugal? The lovely soft sand here reminds us of the beaches in Perth 😁😃
@@FrugalTravellers you know they won’t let me out of Australia just yet, when they do first trip is Singapore to Manchester with out a plane, then hunt you two down and come and play, no doubt in South America by then
Vai no Brasil quero ver kkkkkkkk
Sim, temos planos de viajar para lá no próximo ano. 😁🇧🇷
Are you from England?
Lee is from England and I am from New Zealand, and we lived in Australia so our accents are a right mixture 😃😁
@NATURALEZA y VIDA That would have been a great opportunity to live and work in Australia. In which city would you have lived?
@@FrugalTravellers The offerwas for Melbourne, but I didn't go. Now I got retired in August last year, for this reason I'm thinking about Portugal.
An interesting comment.
cmon, how can you put up with wearing a mask in that beautiful sunny beach????
Such a stupid coment ...
its infuriating isnt it?
@@veraamelio3963 only a robot could 'have fun' walking about in a mask in the sun.
