- SILVES, PORTUGAL Spring is here and that means bright blue skies again... perfect for a day trip to the beautiful city that was the former capital of the Kingdom of the Algarve!

It was a great day trip from Portimaõ and it made a wonderful change from the beach! The Moorish castle was spectacular, and we had the most delicious piripiri chicken!

How cool is that stork
Isn't he/she just so cool! There are loads of storks near the centre of Portimaõ... I really should video them! We were told that they're protected by law, so the old chimneys they nest on can't be torn down... which means there are loads of tall brick chimneys standing alone where factories once were 😁😊

A little, but we had a plan in place for what we were going to talk about which made it easier. Probably much harder when your exploring new place.
That was a good plan! We just rocked up and started walking around the beautiful streets of Silves...so I found it difficult to think of what to video as was too busy looking at all the sights 😀😁

Is there much of a nightlife in Silves?
We were only there for a day trip, in February 2021. Many restaurants etc were closed then but have probably reopened now. Hopefully another viewer will be able to answer your question. ~ Mandy
Well we went there with our family and it was the worse meal we have ever had and will not be returning as 4 of the meals was cold and one was made of rubber.

The hooks in Muslim civilization were used to enlighten the city by hanging the old lamps such as oil lamps. Sadly the Christians tried their best to destroy any sign of Muslim civilization and the city should have guides to explain to visitors.
