Very nice video. I will have to spend more time in Braga next summer when I return to Portugal. From Braga you can easily reach Barcelos and Guimarães, which are both very interesting places that I enjoy visiting. You will find the towns up north to be more preserved than in the south because they did not suffer from the terrible earthquake of 1755. You won't have those jaw dropping seaviews like in the Algarve but, if you make it out to Geres National Park, you'll be surprised by the rugged mountain panoramas. Enjoy!!

Mandy, Guimarães is an amazingly lovely city, and the Museum Soares Machado is a must. I like it more than Braga now very expensive. Being my heritage is from Minho, I will suggest to u some of the most stunning prestine sites located Viana do Castelo east inland, passing thru Ponte de Lima (oldest village in 🇵🇹) a must see aong w/ parish town of Estorãos with its river mill; stunning and an absolute gem. It gets better in Ponte da Barca where my paternal origin is from. I was born in Lisbon, but Ponte is where my ♥ beats, as my heritage thete goes down to ancient times. Gorgeous as well is Arcos de Valdevez and the cherry on top of the pie, the little town of Sistelo, a beautiful place, NOT to be missed with Lindoso in Gerês National Park; amazing place. On the Atlantic Coast of Minho Esposende and its ancient Celtic ruins, then Viana do Castelo, Caminha, Vilar de Mouros is lovely and its Music Festival is an institution, Vila Nova de Cerveira too (where my maternal side is from) Valença a walled town overlooking the river and Spain, from where u can easily walk across the bridge to Tui. Then Paredes de Coura, absolutely stunning (u think u are in Ireland!) also home of the popular Vodafone Summer Music Festival, then the magnificent Monção and its amazing Alvarinho green wines. Enjoy beautiful Minho, the most Celtic area of Portugal 🇵🇹, but Galiza in Spain and right above us is even more so. 800+ years ago, Galiza and Portus Cale, the county name that would become 🇵🇹 (and ran south past Porto) used to be one single Roman province with capital in Braga. When Portus Cale broke away from Galiza, history happened but life there and people are still just like in Minho. Their language is what Portuguese sounded like 800+ years ago; needless to say we understand and truly love each other as a people. Politically our split needed to happen at the time, but us too belong together, as Galegos and Portuguese are as close as it gets despite the Castilian influx thru the centuries. Obrigado 🙏😍😁
Usually in Braga the summers are also hot and dry, we’re just going through an unusual year
It was the same in the Algarve over winter... people there couldn't believe how cold and wet it was. I like cool weather but do love a blue sky. It was gloriously sunny the afternoon we arrived in Braga, then we had clouds and some rain for the next four days... thankfully it was dry the day we hiked to Bom Jesus and we had those beautiful views! ~ Mandy
Braga é a Cidade mais linda de Portugal 🇵🇹
Sim. É muito linda la. It is a beautiful city. 😍
Braga it's beautiful! But you should go to Sameiro and Bom Jesus, that for me are the best places in Braga
Hello Claudia. We agree, Bom Jesus and Sameiro are wonderful, and we'll be posting that video on Saturday! We look forward to reading your comments on it 😁😀 ~ Mandy
Did you try the bakeries?
No, we didn't go into any of the bakeries. What should we have looked for in case we return to Braga? Hopefully we'll go back some day as we plan to house-sit our way around this beautiful country! ~ Mandy
@@FrugalTravellers go to pastelaria St Antonio. Good “bolas de Berlin”, “Glorias” and “Guardanapos” ;) those are my favorite.
@@evandrolima1724 Thank you for the excellent suggestions! Are these particular to Braga or will we find them elsewhere as well? ~ Mandy
@@FrugalTravellers there’s plenty elsewhere but that specific bakery has a special quality. I think it’s the eggs.
Come over guys ! Beautiful place here :)
Isn't it such a beautiful city! We really enjoyed exploring Braga! ~ Mandy
The cathedral was a temple dedicated to Isis. On the outer side wall you can still see the inscription to Isis.
That's so interesting. We didn't notice the inscription, so thank you for sharing this information! ~ Mandy
❤❤
Thank you 😀😁 ~ Mandy
Braga and around, like Guimarães, Barcelos! in Braga Many roman-catholic churches! 😔
Braga is such a lovely city! The weather wasn't great but we had such a good time there! ~ Mandy
Blimey that IS a skinny house!!
Isn't it incredible! I love thin buildings that look so incongruous beside their wider neighbours 😁😀 ~ Mandy
7:24 !!! Good grief!!! What's going on there? I don't remember anything about the decapitation of Christ!
I so wanted to laugh at your comment but don't want to be disrespectful 😀😊 I wish I knew what this signified, but hopefully someone can explain it to you and me both. It was actually quite startling to see at first, especially in such a beautiful church! ~ Mandy
@@FrugalTravellers check S. João Baptista's life and death.
@@jose222 Thank you! @Maria Glorica mentioned St John the Baptist on another comment, which made so much more sense. We appreciate your comment - it's always great to get local knowledge and information! ~ Mandy
My parents got married and I was baptized in this church 7:11
That's brilliant! It's such a beautiful church. ~ Mandy
BRAGA NO MAPA FILHO, 253
Hello DiogoFM. Is that a particular children's map you are referring to? ~ Mandy
Its cute but try live in here. Nightmare
Oh no, Bruna... that sounds terrible! Being there for only 4 full days, we only noticed the beautiful buildings and the laidback atmosphere. What are the main issues when it comes to living in Braga? ~ Mandy
@@FrugalTravellers Braga is a beautiful city . For vacay its amazing but 2 live its not that good. We kinda have a expensive life but portuguese people arent paid enough to live here. Rents are Higher than paychecks. Braga kinda only lives for tourists and dont care much about us . Thats my point of view
@@brunasilve9701 That sounds very similar to the Algarve, which is totally geared towards tourism, and restaurant prices were so much more expensive than Braga, Porto and Lisbon. Thank you for sharing your opinion from a local's point of view, we really appreciate it! ~ Mandy
