      These 3 guys were great and still significant now . This was filmed in India from memory I think. So much disrespect for the English and the popular boys from the male community perhaps. The mud and spit didn’t make much sense.

    Wow. Can't believe I found this. I played at that show with Skafish band. Filmed "URGH, A Music War" at that very show in France. Frejus Roman ruins, if memory serves. Sting sent his big bodyguards out after that guy. They pulled him into the buffer section in front of the stage and roughed him up pretty good.

      I was there too, arenes de frejus yo're right. I have seen that, the guy was throwing oranges pieces to sting if my memory is right, an assh*le, there was ub 40, xtc skafish and a flock of seagulls , a very good concert i never forgot

      I was there. Holidaying locally and got a ticket. My recollection is that, in response to the spitting, Sting jumped into the crowd and was part of the crew that (deservedly) roughed up the moron.

      Dick The Birthday Boy Sting played with a pick all throughout the Police years and got a sound that cut through the mix ( like McCartney). I wonder why he changed to the hybrid classical picking method he uses now.

    Actually, Sting wrote most of their songs, including all their hits. However, what sting wrote was 'policafied' (to use the words of Andy Summers). It was the combination between Sting and the other two members (Summers and Copeland), that made their songs so great.

      Yes, that is true in many ways, though Sting did an incredible job at the Secret Policeman's Ball, but The Police was by far his best band. I never cared for the solo stuff much, even English Man In NY, which is a great song, but that is using a lot of ideas from his Police song The Bed's too Big without you.

    I met Sting outside a restaurant in 2013 and had my photo taken with him. He was quiet and calm! I see here he is angry cos some reprobate was acting the noodle. Funny when he starts dancing mad and then tries to poke the offenders eye out with the bass!

      Copeland is one of the best drummers in the world....in my opinion he plays way too ahead of the beat and doesn’t serve the song though.
      There is time for simplicity and time for complexity..Copeland always over doing it

    Actually, sting is a great musician, able to write/play many different styles of music. Summers is also a great guitar player (ya know, there was a reason for why people called him the 'one man orchestra').

    Was Sting confused, because back then, it was complimentary to spit at a "punk rock" band. I know The Police aren't considered punk-rock by most of their fans, but they were labelled that way, probably because they became famous right around the time punk rock was in full swing.

Andy's signature atmospheric guitar tones making musical texture and Sting's awesome voice, bass playing, AND songwriting giving Stewart great material to work with and adapt helped a great lot. Stewart is amazing, but being one of the greatest bands of all time requires all of the members to be amazing in their own right.

    Sounds like a harmonizer on Sting's vocal in the choruses, Copeland's mic is to help sell it visually, he drops off the vocal mic at 2:44 with harmonizer still in the mix.

    Sting is playing like a genius, what fantastic bass playing singing and handles all this so well. They got security for a reasons. Sting should only be using his multimillion dollar hands for playing bass and guitar. Security is there to handle the rest.

    I still remember not knowing too much about The Police other than a few tunes but that they were this incredibly hot popular band. Then boom,they break up. It was like their awesomeness was too much to contain and so it all ended so quickly. Fast forward 40 years and Im seeing Sting lose his shit after someone hurled a green monster at him. LOL

    Unfortunally Sting has no Black Belt in Karate like JJ Burnel. Maybe he was coked up in Gateshead but it wasn't foam at his mouth but sugar from the cake he was eating while playing. What is also a little bit bizarre.

    This concert was held on August 28, 1980, in Fréjus / Les Arènes, France. Some guy in the audience threw mud at Sting, and Sting got pissed. Here's where I got this info from:

    I’ve been playing the police copy band more than 30 years. And my part is singing and base as Sting.
    When I play this song I always imitate this action like I was spitted
    even no one spitted me.
