I may be in the minority, but my favorite in this collection is Marvel Super Heroes. It’s not necessarily that it’s a better game than any of the later ones - no tag team and only ten fighters. But the simplicity of it, how well it plays today, AND thinking of just how much I would have eaten it up if I had found it at a Chuck E Cheese or something of the like, gives me a lot of love for it.
I can appreciate that. MvC2 is too obvious as the reason for all of us getting this collection, my favorite OTHER game in this collection is Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter. Don’t misunderstand me, everything in this collection is AWESOME! But the Japanese version of Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter takes me back to my SEGA Saturn days. I am thrilled to experience this one again. Your choice is still great. They’re ALL great games!
@@brichan1851 they sure are! MSHvSF came out a little past my love of the Marvel SatAM cartoons of the era (context, I was not yet 7 when plain ol’ MSH came out in the arcade), but it plays exactly how I would expect it to play as a now almost 36 year old man who loves this era of gaming and hey, can’t complain there!
@@samuelallen2831 you have hella good taste. I’m 10 years your senior and I still play the hell out of the games. No signs of stopping ANYTIME soon! Keep the fight going, brother. Up next on our radar; Capcom Fighting Game Collection vol. 2. Bring me some Power Stone and Capcom vs. SNK 2, baby!!! It’s a a hell of a good time to be a retro gamer and a fighting game fan.
@@samuelallen2831 very excited for all of it. Capcom really knew how to do it right back in the day. They still do. SF6 is shaping up to something nice.
I’m very excited for this! I definitely preordered the physical for the Switch, every game on here is a must have! So glad you did this, great Vid Jay! Have fun in Cleveland, be safe!
Would like to play that Punisher game but I won't get enough use out of the rest of the collection to make it worth it. Nice comparisons for the rest of the games. It was interesting to learn a little about that series.
I really agree with your list, though I would still have put X-Men just a tad higher. I remember when it came out in arcades, then on SEGA Saturn, and it was so amazing to actually play as my favorite X-Men in a Street Fighter-style fighting game! It was incredible, then, and still holds a special place in my heart. That’s my only slight disagreement. Everything else you said is spot on. Since the digital release, I have been playing this non-stop. I’m a double dipper on this one. November can’t come fast enough!
Just to make a correction in this video: you actually can unlock characters the old fashioned way in the arcade version. You have to go in the ex settings in the actual game that you're playing in have to set the characters to locked. Therefore you can unlock them the old-fashioned way. Best version Of MVC2 imo.
Its MAHVEL, baby! Still so surreal to know Capcom finally released these from legal jail. I'm super biased, but COTA certainly ranks up higher due to the sheer fact that it set the foundation for the perfection to come. And those S+ tier animations that we'd never see in subsequent games (chef's kiss) XMvSF and MvC1 are also S-tier for me; XMvSF specifically for making teenage me fall in love with fighting games... something I'll never be able to repay ✌️
The thing I never liked about MvC2 are the backgrounds. I dont get it why NOBODY talks about this. They are generic and not fun. And I don't mean it because of the polygons vs spritework, but more thematic. They are not representive for not one character. Why not make a cool X-men background where the X-men characters can fight in, and then a few cool CapCom background. Instead we get a carnaval, a cave etc. It is so dissapointing to me and I dont get why nobody talks about this.
People typically prefer X-Men/Street Fighter over Marvel/Street Fighter, but I'm not one of them. Marvel/Street Fighter has a lighter tone, establishing the formerly nebulous Dan Hibiki as a joke character (and offering Norimaro as another joke character!). I had loads of fun playing it on the Saturn, while X-Men/Street Fighter left me a little cold. And Marvel vs. Capcom, whee doggie. You would not believe how excited I got by all the fan service in this game. Mega Man and Strider both die in their trademark explosions! The unknown soldier from Forgotten Worlds (the game that convinced me to buy a Sega Genesis) is in here! Unbelievably awesome! Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is likewise pretty good, but I feel like maybe Capcom took things a little too far with the huge character roster and three on three gameplay. The first MvC is a tighter package, and the music is a better fit. Er, sorry for the novel. I'm a big fan of these games, let's just put it that way.
Honestly if you are a fighting game purist, X-men:Cota is the best in terms of gameplay, and casual fighting game players will like Mvc2 the most as it is more accessible gameplay wise and the roster is very satisfying
I'm so glad capcom released this collection! I love all of these games, A couple I never got to play until now that being The Punisher and X-Men children of the atom, and both are so much fun! Can't wait for Capcom fighting collection 2 next year
I'm trying to hold off for the physical release but I may not make it! I've honestly never played ANY of these games, except the Punisher. I don't do fighting games, but it's time!

It doesn't bug me personally, but you're not wrong. A lot of those could have been retooled to be Capcom or Marvel specific stages.

Zero to apologize for. Share that love and joy for these games, my dude! 🧡
I wish they also included Xmen mutant Apocalypse as thats part of the lineage of Capcom produced Marvel hero games.

Capcom ranking time with Square Pegs/Jay
All these games are better on the sega consoles
Sure, but that's not what this video was about my dude.
