      Basically use any EQ that you have and then create a bandpass filter to allow sounds from 300hz to 6000hz through it. There is no magic number so play around with what frequencies you pass through to get the sound that you enjoy! :D I will be working on a video that goes through how to build a bunch of vocal effects soon :)

    Hey man, I'm trying to get specific desktop windows to display sound over discord (Such as Spotify), OBS is picking up the audio from all sources, is there a way to individualize audio sources and only have one or two go into discord?

    • @PlentyAZach
      @PlentyAZach  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there is, there are two ways to do this, I'll show you the Voicemeeter way first, then I'll show you the "easier" way with an OBS plugin.
      You'll need the "Audio Cables" that come with VM and you might need to get Audio cable A and B from Voicemeeter's (VM) website, but start with the free ones first.
      To do this, go into your windows sound control panel and you should be able to change the "Listen/Output" device to something else. Example: Spotify I send to VAIO 3 on my VM Potato software. if you have banana, you could send it to VM AUX. Then VM will only play spotify on that audio channel. Then inside OBS, add a audio source and select whatever VM channel you selected on spotify, boom sound only goes to that source now.
      Using OBS Win-Capture-Audio Plug In obsproject.com/forum/resources/win-capture-audio.1338/
      install this plugin, then go into obs and add the new "application audio capture" and select Spotify from the application drop down list. Done.
      Hope these help you out FakeJuice! :D

    Hey my man, thank you so much for this video it has really come in handy. A question that I have is regarding what you mention at 8:41 about the peak meter responding in the Comms. section when talking into the mic. When talking into my mic the peak meter doesn't show any activity in Discord, Skype etc although my contacts can hear me. It does however register to my contacts sound when they communicate with me. Are you able to tell me why this may be occurring for instance if Voice Meeter has been updated since you made this video and that is why it is behaving differently?

  • @Chriswelder1

    So, if I'm using Equalizer APO with reaper plug-ins. Have my mic eq'd and compressed etc. Monitor my voice through OBS to see what it sounds like it won't sound that way in discord unless I use this method? I'm using a Rode Podmic with Scarlet solo for my interface.

    • @PlentyAZach
      @PlentyAZach  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I've read about with EQAPO, You can not ROUTE the audio to different spots. It's more of a program that takes the audio and adds effects to it then straight to your ear. If you want to route your EQAPO Mic audio into discord, the easiest thing I've seen so far is to use a method similar to this.
      Voicemeeter (VM) allows you to take audio and send it to several spots at once allowing you to send your audio to discord, a stream, a recording, without needed super expensive equipment that could do a similar job. Till some better audio applications come my way VM is the quickest way to set this up.

    Great video one of the better I have seen on this matter how to route audio from OBS to discord, with voicemeeter and virtual cables. It's definitely not an easy project. Never really succeed perfectly. Many combinations tried. I am very curious about sending music to discord. Never got this to sound as when I stream to twitch. Last night I tried your settings.. The microphone was detected in discord.. But when routing music to it it starts for a bit then discord says no input detected. I would love to see how you route any music source to discord.. And find out if the sound will be good, stereo. I never succeed. Just crackling music. Just as it was recorded from a microphone. Also I would like to know, and explained the B1, B2 and B3 in VM POTATO, what is what not just say You need to have B2 checked. Anyways great video and good explanation.

    • @PlentyAZach
      @PlentyAZach  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Bud! I'll try my best to break down the questions you have here:
      - Audio routing and especially voicemeter (VM) is A HUGE PAIN IN THE BUTT!!!!! But it's also one of the best programs out there it's just very finicky, I've broken my audio like 50+ times trying to figure things out to the point I am now. It takes time but you can def learn it! :D
      - For music routing, I don't actually route my audio to discord. So in VM Potato, I have 3 virtual outputs, VAIO, AUX, and VAIO 3. I route my desktop audio to VAIO, all my discord stuff to AUX, and then all of my music to VAIO 3. In this example, I only have music going to VAIO 3 and it's only routed to MY EARS via the A1-A5 selections. So in the column for VAIO 3, B1-B3 is not selected. In OBS I capture my music here from VAIO 3 as to be able to raise or lower the volume later in video editing, but I don't send it to discord. You can send it to discord though if you select B2 (assuming your settings are similar to mine).
      - Ok for B1-B3 in VM Potato, each of these are different RECORDING devices that windows sees. So B1 in VM Output inside your windows sound control panel. If you select B1 on any thing that is sending sound, you can see VM OUTPUT getting signal as it's volume meter starts moving. B2 is VM Aux Output and B3 is VAIO3 Output. In my example, I send my microphone into VM Aux Output or B2 and then tell discord to use the input device is VM Aux Output. This way my voice ONLY ever goes to this one sound device and I can tell all my applications to listen to that new sound device and it will always be my voice. You can use the other B1 and B3 as input devices but most applications can only use one device at a time and I picked B2 based off some other videos I'd watched about VM Setup haha.
      I hope this helps you out Bud! :D

  • @SgtRauksauff
    @SgtRauksauff ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very informative and useful. Quick question... If OBS already uses the raw mic for the filters (I use it myself for the Nvidia Noise Removal, and a bit of EQ/Compressor), and then pipes the processed sound to VoiceMeeter through the VB-Cable, is there actually a need for it to be set as one of the hardware inputs, since it's not output from VM anywhere? Or is that basically just a visual monitor to view active input in VoiceMeeter...?

    • @PlentyAZach
      @PlentyAZach  ปีที่แล้ว

      So from my understanding, OBS does take the raw mic, but all adjustments made via vst filters are only local to OBS. So if you were to select your raw mic outside OBS, it wouldn't have any of the effects on it. I believe windows allows you to use the "raw" mic input in many different programs all at once. which is great for some use cases, but when it comes to this not so much haha. So in this case, I'm routing the local OBS mic output (mic + filters) to VM to become an input to any other device that I want to have all those effects to. So here that same thing windows does where it duplicates the mic output comes to our advantage. So this Effects mic can now go to discord, your game, skype, zoom, where ever else all at the same time.
      I hope that helped answer your question, Jordon! :)

    This was just an awesome video but i have a question! How do you do this but still get sound alerts on the headset? Right now all my sound alerts goes thru my microphone so discord can also hear it but if i turn of output in obs i cant hear it.

    • @PlentyAZach
      @PlentyAZach  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I appreciate the compliment and glad it was useful to you bud! :D
      To answer your question, because you are monitoring OBS anything you have set up to be monitored in your "Advanced Audio Properties" tab will also all go out to your discord calls. Try checking your alerts to see if they are set to any form of monitor or just output. now if you can't hear them without monitoring them, one fix would be to use the new Monitoring filter obsproject.com/forum/resources/audio-monitor.1186/ You can now add a monitor filter to any sound channel and specific the monitor device all separately from the global monitor in obs settings. I hope this helps bud! :D

      - Check to make sure you have OBS monitoring the correct audio device, make sure it's the one you have selected to output the obs sound to your voicemeter.
      - in OBS advanced audio properties try the different monitoring options. maybe monitor and output doesn't echo or maybe just monitor doesn't echo
      - Check your windows audio settings to make sure you don't have "listen to this device" selected in the sound properties as that will monitor the audio
      - Check to make sure your windows audio settings haven't changed the default sound devices to other things (will happen every time you hook up a new audio device) I hate it lol

Also, with VB you can split audio devices into sub mixes which, as far as I know now, I can't do with any other software based solution and still control it with relative ease. You are welcome to make a video to explain how to do it but a word of note for you, it is a bit weird to go into someone else's comments asking for people's interest in a video that you'll make. It's like self promo on someone else's twitch live stream. generally I'd recommend avoiding that. otherwise, bud, have at it and good luck! :)

    • @PlentyAZach
      @PlentyAZach  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First make sure every audio device I windows is set to the same sample rate either all on 44.1KHz or 48kHz. Then you can raise your audio device buffer I think default is 512 you could slowly raise that up on the WDM, KS, ASIO, And the other one that I can’t remember. If none of that is working, you may have to dive deeper into the trouble shooting by adjusting the driver settings. I’d have to really look into that as I don’t have a lot of experience in there yet.

    • @chrispysaid
      @chrispysaid 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah like Zach said, this is usually a bitrate mismatch between audio devices, but sometimes the problem is that your computer just doesn't run the driver you're using very well. You might have to switch to MME from WDM (or the other way round) but just make sure EVERYTHING matches. If you right click your speaker icon in your Windows taskbar and click Sounds, that's a shortcut to open the legacy Windows audio menu, click the Playback tab, go down the list double clicking everything and then in the Advanced tab change your bitrate to "16 bit, 41100 Hz" alllll the way down the list, then do the same for the Record tab (next to the Playback tab). Then restart your computer, see if that fixes it.
      If it doesn't, then your sample rate is too high, which you can change in Voicemeeter, sometimes 512 is too low for your computer so you need to set it up to 1024. You'll notice a slight audio delay the higher you go but if you're getting really bad crackling that could be it.
      If none of that works, try this: Open Notepad, paste the following code in there, and save it as "audio fix.bat" and then run it as administrator.
      @echo off
      if not "%1"=="am_admin" (powershell start -verb runas '%0' am_admin & exit /b)
      net stop audiosrv
      pause>nulnulnulnul

      Without seeing how everything is set up here's a few things to check on just to be sure.
      - Make sure you are monitoring the correct audio source in OBS. This also resets itself for no reason from time to time so just double check there.
      - Can you see the audio meter moving in Voicemeeter? if it's moving then at least VM is hearing what's coming from OBS, from there make sure you have B2 selected on that.
      - make sure windows sound control panel has Voicemeeter Aux Output set to default under the recording tab
      - then make sure discord is set to grab default from there or force it to VM Aux output.
      That should make it all work but VM and audio routing is a very tricky beast!

      If the fix that Flynn suggested doesn't work, one make sure every device on your system are all using the same Hz either 44100Hz or 48000Hz but they all have to match. from there you can adjust your buffer size in voicemeter if issues still occur. in Voicemeter go to Menu > System Settings then on the right side of the new menu you should see "Buffering MME, WDM, KS,etc." make the buffer larger to help reduce system lag. if you have issues at 256 buffer size try 512, so on and so forth. if that still doesn't work you can try running it in Admin mode :) hope one of these helps!

      You might be able to go into the windows sound settings menu and disable "allow applications exclusive control". Sometimes when certain applications start up it'll change your default audio settings and you'll have to keep resetting it. I had to disable that check box on every single sound device in the "sound" and "recording" tab. Try that and see if that helps!

      Make sure that on the microphone input side that you don’t have A1-A5 turned green. If any of those inputs have a green light it means you can hear what the microphone is picking up.

    this is so hard :/ i keep breaking my audio... your steps seem out of place for someone trying to set this up for the first time so i tried to make my own step by step guide out of your steps but breaking my audio stresses me out so much i cant even refer back to your video with the audio is broken because it says i need to restart my computer.. everytime i give this another shot i end up breaking my audio and then spend 15min fixing it and then i give up and just put it off because im tired of restarting my computer 20 times trying to figure this out

      I'm sorry that this was a frustrating experience for you. VoiceMeeter (VM) is already a very difficult program to use and the reason I didn't go step by step with how to get VocieMeeter working is that this guide is more intended for those with intermediate to advanced skill in audio routing in VM. VM has so many complexities that It's hard to cover all of them in one video without making it it's own dedicated video which is why I tried to refer to another video to get VM working first then my guide is an extension and a showcase of what more you can do with VM.
      From your steps I don't see anything wrong with this setup and if it works for you that awesome! thankfully, there are several ways to achieve this same result, this is just showing one of them. Also, as I know it's hard to watch tutorials when your audio is broken, I tend to watch these videos on a phone, tablet, other computer, so that way when I inevitably screw up my audio, I can keep watching the video on the other device to keep the sound going. Just a tip as I've also spent many a frustrated days and nights messing up my audio and learning as I went.
      I wish you the best bud and I'm glad you persevered through it all! :D

    Thanks for the video :) Can I ask, is this setup only for when you're communicating with people via voice and not via video? When I use video chat, the latency on the audio from the OBS monitor is so significant for the people I'm talking to that it sort of makes the setup unviable. Is there a way to improve that latency that I'm missing?

    • @PlentyAZach
      @PlentyAZach  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nairda, I would recommend using that same OBS that is sending sound to your calls to also send video to your calls as well. I'd do this using either NDI, or virtual camera. You could then add a render delay filter to your video to help better sync up the audio and video so that it's not super off. In my set up I've not noticed that much delay in audio/video but I know every set up is different. couple notes though on trying to improve latency:
      1: make sure that no filters are using a "pre-open" option. this will create a delay of however many miliseconds are selected in your audio. so if 10ms pre-open, the audio is at least 10ms behind it's original processing point.
      2: some computers in general don't process the audio fast enough, you could try running OBS and VoiceMeeter in admin to bring up the processing level but that's not a guarantee it'll work.
      3: It may be your VM that is causing that much delay, you could try to lower the buffers in your settings for VM to improve the delay. my buffering for MME is 480, WDM is 128, KS is 128, ASIO is 128. this will not work on all computer and could cause all your audio to sound robotic and staticy. if that happens you'll have to raise the buffer till it stops. (it's computer dependent so I can't give solid numbers on what to try unfortunately)
      I hope that helps you out Bud!

      You are right and this is 100% on me for forgetting that the virtual cable doesn't come standard on install with VM. The virtual cable can be obtained from the same voice meter website on the first tab to the left. I have linked it here for you. vb-audio.com/Cable/index.htm install "VB-CABLE Virtual Audio Device" which is the top most link and then you'll have access to the same cable that I use here.
      Thank you for reminding me to look over what's in the standard installs so that I can make my videos better.

      @@PlentyAZach Thanks for the fast reply! Just another question. Why would you put the discord output on the same channel as the mic? Doesn't that mean i have to listen to myself?

    • @PlentyAZach
      @PlentyAZach  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the Aux Output and Aux Input are connected to the same channel but separated on how the sound is routed. When you select the Aux Output as the "input" to discord, That's saying take the Voice meter "output" and send that to the Discord "input". Thankfully we can send it back to the Aux "input" as we can select what's sent to our headphones. In Voicemeter you'll need to deselect the hardware outputs (A1-A3 or A5 depending on what voicemeter you have) and make sure you have B2 selected on that obs audio. This will send your voice to discord without letting you hear it. Under the Aux section (B2) you'd select whatever outputs you want (A1-A5) and have nothing selected on the B1-B3. Your voice goes to discord, you can hear your friends from discord and there is no cross talk or feedback with that setup.

      When I had it working this was solved by ensuring that you were monitoring and outputting in OBS under your mics advanced audio properties. No however I cannot get it to output so not sure if you are having the issue I am.

    Hey, everything was working well for months but for some reason today it doesn't wanna work no matter what. I changed my cable that I connect to the laptop but now even audio doesn't work for it so I have to go back to using the default speakers instead of the virtual cable. Do you know what seems to be the problem?

    • @PlentyAZach
      @PlentyAZach  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      so often times the window default sound settings will reset themselves every time a new "sound device" is added to the PC. In this case you added/changed a cable and it's possible you are no longer using the normal voicemeter sound devices. try checking those defaults and seeing if they changed.

    • @AshuaBBX
      @AshuaBBX 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PlentyAZach I set it to the normal voicemeeter aux input/output settings like shown at 6:42 yet it still doesn't work. OBS doesn't pick up sound when using the vb cables and no audio can be heard unless I switch back to default speakers.
      I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the vb cable and voicemeeter but that didn't work as well.

    • @AshuaBBX

      The setup is actually the same across Banana and Potato but there will be less "Hardware Inputs". Voicemeter comes with a lot of unnecessary confusion which doesn't help either. I see in your other comment it looks like your missing the "Cable Output" that I select in the second input, you'll have to make sure that you have one of the cables downloaded from vb-audio.com/Cable/index.htm Looking back I realize I don't talk about that cable in enough detail.
      In the near future I'll work on another video showing an easier way to get better sound out to VoIP apps.

    • @PlentyAZach
      @PlentyAZach  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@williamhansen6350 make sure all devices in your sound control panel are ALL at either 44.1kHz or all at 48kHz. if you have a difference there it'll screw up some audio. you could also change the buffers to a higher number which generally helps cut down on issues related to crackling or robotic sounds. these buffers are in system settings in VM. Your OBS settings are fine, VM tends to be a very finicky program at best for some reason. It's going to take some trail and error to figure out the best settings for your pc and vm setup.
