That was awesome Eric. Love how you stuck with that one F#m chord and showed how you build off of a fill. It has more direction and purpose when you build off a theme in my humble opinion. That was some very funky fingerstyle you threw in at the end!!

I’m new to your channel but just wanted to say thank you!! The way you explain concepts makes them so easy to understand and I’ve already taken steps forward in my playing because of you.

I love the pedal steel in the backing track; one of my favorite musical sounds. And your guitar tone is so smooth and clear, yet punchy...very easy on the ears! Thanks for the great lesson, Eric!

      Thanks Frank!
You're gonna hear that steel more and more on my tracks :-D
I don't know why I haven't thought to use it more already - It's a nice, organic complement to all the midi drums and keys I use.

Eric, I wish I knew what it is about your backing tracks, especially this one, that sounds moving and holds the attention.

      Thanks!
I'm particularly happy with this jam track 'cause I added some pedal steel - which I don't usually do :-D
Plus, there's a sale on Toontrack plugins going on right now, so I got the "Latin Percussion" for the congas, and "60s soul" for the drums. So fun!

Incredible video, Eric! You're such a great teacher. I really appreciate it when you use intervals, numbers and relative positions to explain why things sound the way they do. It's easy on the mind because I seems like everyone can hear intervals naturally, but when too much music theory it can get overwhelming... However, you have a great balance in sharing the right amount of information to a wide range of skill level.
QUESTION: I remember you showing a Hendrix technique that involved bending a string up and switching to the higher string that was also bent upwardly and bringing that one down. I can't remember which video that was in.... It'd be great if you'd make a video(s) about solo techniques in general. I don't mean, "use these licks to sound good"... I mean something more on the lines of demonstrating various: Slide-forms/combinations; bend combinations; sequences, mixing the various techniques and other rhythmic-melody mixes that relate to *modeling a vocalist*... essentially a lesson on techniques that will help *vocalize* on the guitar. "To think of the guitar as a voice", and to remove the barriers between your throat and fingers.
    Thanks Eric!

You and I think alike, Michael!
I'm actually working on a phrasing lesson as we speak!
The idea is exactly what you talk about: How to make the guitar *sing* like a person. Small slides, bends, hammerons, and grace notes all in the context of humanizing the guitar. No hot licks, no runs, just mellifluous-ity :-D
      Stay tuned, bro!

Just a matter of practice and practice to get the fill note progression and tecnique down and onto generating the speed.

In general, I try to work on my right hand techniques as much as my left. Different approaches, pick angles, etc. I find that we guitar players like to focus on the left hand as it looks like it's the one doing all the work, but the right hand is the real hero!

Eric Haugen, I feel the same about Knopfler. Personally, I think he's the best all-time guitarist/song writer. The music and lyrics of "Done With Bonaparte" still get to me every time. I think my favorite tune of his.

    A fantastic lesson again Eric.
Do you view skipping a set of strings as going to the 4 chord ( b minor pentatonic 5 string version)?. If so would moving up 2 frets to the 5 chord work?, or am I over thinking it !
Your lessons are by far the best on TH-cam, keep up the great work.
    All the best Karl

    • @EricHaugenGuitar
      @EricHaugenGuitar  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question, Karl!
If the chord changes, I'd change to the minor pentatonic that suits it. So yes, if the song went to B minor and then C# minor, I'd do exactly as you said.
But, if the chord doesn't change, I'd stay within the same root 6 form.

I think I gonna stick to that F#minor a couple of days. I really love that groove (makes me think of that tune th-cam.com/video/9_9vd3i2DKk/w-d-xo.html )
