    "The genius of Hendrix, well there's much genius, let's just learn stuff" You totally sold me on that one line. Consider me a subscriber. You caught yourself rambling, and then immediately went back to the hands on lesson. I love that.

    I like what you said about really getting a small piece rather than half assing a whole solo. That approach had served me well, and send to help me accumulate the essence of certain players while stacking enough of them on top of each other over time to use them in my own way.

    • @EricHaugenGuitar
      @EricHaugenGuitar  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes! That is how we develop our own style - taking a little bit here, a little bit there. Really knowing it, and letting it simmer in a weirdo pot of soup with everything else!
      Then hopefully, when we start playing something original and unique to us comes out!

    Love the way your lessons combine playing and theory in a really accessable way. You don't scare us with mountains of "lingo" but each lesson draws you in allowing us to do it at our own pace..I love spending a full day with my notebook and guitar really letting it sink in finally putting my notes into a file I have have full of lessons from all over TH-cam,the library and watching other players. You truly have a gift of education Eric and play a huge part in the life I know live free from drugs but overflowing with sound 🎶❤️🎶 Peace, love, joy and happiness to you and your family xx

      I've used GB since it first came out, so my workflow is really really fast - one day, I'll drag myself to upgrade to Logic, but I'm waiting to be forced to do so. I'm one of those people who refuses to upgrade his phone or operating system until I absolutely have to!

    Really good lesson. You’ve narrowed it down to the essence of what everybody finds so frickn appealing about this style I.e. the twists, turns, doublebacks that provide some hip rhythms and ways to lengthen the lines. Thank you.

    Thank you for everything you're putting out there. I'm a much more confident guitar player thanks to nerding out with you over my favorite tunes and styles. By the way, where's my 1972/73 era Paul Simon lesson?? Regardless, my playing style is now hopelessly entrenched in some strange Ribot/Hendrix/Neil Young/Dave Rawlings nexus, and I couldn't be happier about it. Thanks for putting in the analytic work so that the rest of us can just sit back and take it in. It is VERY appreciated.

      I remember competing in Guitar Center's "Battle of the Blues" competition like 10 years ago. One of the judges was Bonnie Raitt's guitarist, Will Macfarlane. He saw me go up with my trusty mustang and sorta squinted his eyes at me as if to say, "...are you sure you're in the right place, kid?"
      I did my thing, and he came up to me afterwards and said: "Man, I didn't think a mustang could sound that GOOD!"
      I ended up getting 2nd place - my buddy Hugh put the guitar behind his head, so he won :-)

    Nice my man. As fellow Hendrix fan whose never even heard this lick. And I've heard alot. If I have, I can't remember or identify it. This is an awesome song. And I greet job mimicking the genius. Let alone hitting those notes with such precision. I'm trying to start a band or begin a music career, of some sort. You, my man have an open invitation. Your brilliant. Now a subscriber on both of my channels. Keep up the good work. Look forward to this learning material you're providing. We can be rock stars, you know. Guaranteed, almost. Learning it in the two lower octaves has (I think) helped me to not just learn the lick, but be able to recall it. Instead of, "ah cool lick" now on to the next one, and then it's lost in the ocean of blues licks. This could be a very useful tool in my proverbial nail bag of lick honing ... uh, tools.... sorry that metaphor crashed upon takeoff.

    Thanks Eric! This one will immediately join your last two "warm up" licks. They really are great for warming up, and there's larnin' going on, too! On a separate topic, wondering if you've seen the latest Strymon pedal - the Iridium. I've been confounded as to what type of amp to get (Fender-ish vs. Vox-ish, etc.) This pedal seems to turn your clean amp into whatever you want it to be, without any fuss. Would love to hear your take on it sometime.

    • @davidewing55
      @davidewing55 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Koho - the Iridium isn't meant to be played through your amp. It's meant to replace it - for direct recording via interface, to go direct to a P.A., or to use with headphones. It looks really cool and is on my get list.

    • @koho
      @koho 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidewing55 Actually, from what I've read on many sites, it's just as much for use with an amp (or yes, headphones), idea being you don't need to keep multiple heavy amps around to get the sounds you want. All of the online reviews I've seen are playing through a clean amp. Rhett Shull does a nice one, and he actually notes that Iridium is not optimized for recording, compared to other modelers (HX Stomp) - there's in fact no computer-friendly line out, only the usual jack and headphones out. Anyway, that's why I'm interested in it. Eric has always steered me right, so would love his take on it.

    • @EricHaugenGuitar
      @EricHaugenGuitar  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I've had my eye on that pedal too! I am indeed very curious about how the amp models sound into a clean amp - would be very convenient to be able to switch between the big three sounds with a toggle.

    That is the PERFECT vibe tone!
    I own the MXR univibe, the Bear Foot Mint Green minivibe (slow), the TC Electronics Viscous Vibe, and the Drybell Vibe Machine.
    They all are a bit too harsh.
    No matter what I tried, I couldn't get them to be as soft as the tone you're using.
    The Bear Foot was the closest, but it allows too much noise to get through when it's engaged.
    So, I bought the Blackout Effectors "Sibling" analog phaser. It's the "little brother" to the Whetstone phaser (which I also own, but switched out for the MXR phase 90).
    The Sibling has a Uni vibe setting which is the best vibe pedal I own. lol.
    I bought the Jam Pedals wah wah and the Jam Pedals Univibe, but the vibe pedal didn't work!
    I sent it back for a refund.
    The only way I can get that soft vibe sound that you have, is with the Sibling phaser.
    All the other units are back in their boxes in my closet.

    • @EricHaugenGuitar
      @EricHaugenGuitar  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I run my retrovibe first, into the Greer Lightspeed - that's a killer combo!
      I totally agree - good vibe sounds are strangely tricky to get!
      Running into the normal channel of the AC15, with that Mojotone speaker (voiced like a Celestion Greenback), really ups the creaminess - I think American voiced speakers are a bit brighter. I love them, but for some pedals (fuzz and vibe), they can be a harsh on the top end.
