This cat's guitar instruction, although somewhat scattered, actually makes sense to me. I've been playing guitar for over 40 years. I am entirely self taught. This cat speaks a musical language I understand.

Another Fine Lesson Tomo! Looks like a hybrid picking lesson is in order. New players have a hard time with double stops because of the hybrid picking. Just a suggustion. I know I had a had time with it in the begining ( 100 years ago). We are so lucky you do this. I have played for a very long time but I always always learn from you. It helps me stay interested and to pratice.

  • @NOLASkaGuitarist

Fantastic lesson Tomo. So much soul on double stops. As a guitar player, I can say they are almost like a cheat code beacuse they are much easier to see (at least to me) and the ability to slide and bend notes really makes them so versatile and easy. On the keys, they are harder to see and transpose (obviously) and are harder to apply as tastefully. Using a pitch bender wheel can open it up a bit, but since you can't bend two notes a different amount with the same wheel it's not the same.

I always credited to Chuck Berry for being an innovator in piano/guitar cross-over ‘stops’ too. He may not have been as melodic but a lot of his famous licks were derived from piano though more honky-tonk than gospel in my ear. This is a very informative vid my friend, thank you!👍

It really feels like a 2nd guitar is hitting with me on those notes, adding extra suspense or release to the phrase.

This is WRONG ! Those are not double stops. In street terms they're called moving 3rds, 4ths, 6ths(3rds) which includes power 5ths and octaves. In classical terms it is called Parallel motion. I studied classical counter-point for a year (A-). John Tropea - Muff Lenny White - Universal Love and Gary Hoey - Hocus Pocus are examples of double stops.
