To replace potentiometr inside V159 you can leave V159 on its place (don't need to remove last 3 screws that was one of the hardest parts of this replacment for me). When you see V159 from the side you can remove V159 connector (need to press the connector tab, which is located on the far side and is not visible from our side), then remove V159 plastic cover using thin flat screwdriver. After that you can take out old potentiometr and insert the new one back into the V159.

Small tip I've bent this metal and it was easier to remove this screws, just be careful and later return to first position. Anyway thanks a lot
Excellent video! Thank you very much! I have just finished repairing my Passat 3C5/B6 that showed the 01810 DTC and got some useful insight. I removed the V159 actuator and cracked it open. Found nothing wrong with it. The DC motor was working (applied external 12V to it) and the potentiometer also gave correct feedback (4.7 kOhm across end terminals and wiper varied between 0.5 kOhm and 4.7 kOhm). However it seemed like it would easily get stuck in one end position (maximum cooling of HVAC, which also matched the car's problem). When reversing the voltage the motor would just stall. I greased up all the gear and ran the DC motor back and forth a couple of times. After this, the problem was seemingly gone. No spare parts required! Then I tried connecting the actuator to the car and let it dangle from the dashboard, started the car's HVAC and switched temperature setpoint between low and high. The actuator would then move back and forth, thereby verifying the function of the actuator. I then put everything back together and now the HVAC is working properly.
Thank you for this video, it helped me replace the V159 in my B7, i hade to remove a airbag box near that annoying plate in order to reach the screws. A question though, after disconnect and reconnect airbag box do i need to clear my error list ? because now i have a warning on my dashboard...

The same guide works for B7 passat also. However you need to drill a hole to get access to a T20 screw for a module that is covering the v159 motor.

Probably it’s because of the servomotors, but first you can start with a car dyagnose to be sure.

Daca ai eroare pe unul dintre servomotorase, da, poate fi de acolo sau de la radiatorul de caldura (sa nu fie fisurat).
