It's funny how these vids are so much more pleasing to watch when they are this friggin SIMPLE AND TO THE POINT! no beating round the mulburry bush or up the river and through the woods talk just keepin it simple and TO THE POINT! So to you I say thank you sir
Been over seven years and this video is still relevant. Today my daughter and I replaced the faulty motor on her 2008 Jetta. Took less than an hour start to finish. Thanks for the video!
This saved my life. The dealership wanted $800 to replace it. Not real mechanically inclined, but following the video I was able to replace the flap motor in about an hour. Saved me a lot of money!!! Thanks!!!!
You Ryane Calme should be rewarded for your knowledge & this fantastic video! This should be taught to all VW dealerships and their technicians. It solved my problem on this super annoying noise that came right behind my 2008 VW Rabbit's glove compartment. I initially followed another TH-cam video and cleaned/lubed my blower fan motor assembly under the glove compartment, but didn't solve my problem. The noise would come back every time the Ignition was turned to on position and lasted up to 10 seconds. With your video, I went straight to the source of noise and simply disconnected the plug to the Recirculator Flap Motor. NOISE IS GONE FOREVER! Thank you, Thank you Thank you... Note: It's best to change the motor, but in my case, after I disconnected the RFM plug, I turned the car on with A/C and everything was working as normal, even the air ducts were changing position. Only the air recirculation system stopped working and that can be fixed by replacing the motor for $65 on OEM parts and $29 aftermarket part on ebay.
This was THE BEST step by step video I've ever seen. I followed this video to a T on my Jetta and was able to not only do it on my own but also fix the problem. Thank you a million times!!!
YOU DON'T NEED TO REPLACE THE PART!!! thank you for the great video. The part is repairable easily. If you open it with a flat head you will see whats wrong. The small motor inside is not sitting right and the gears are bearly in contact with each other, thats why you get that annoying noise. All i did was push the little motor back in place and placed a small piece of paper on top of the little motor to make sure it doesn't pop out of its place, and then i closed it up. And it worked really good. Cost me $0.
@@matthew5364 it's really easy I did it, just use a small screw driver to pry open the motor then just press everything back into place. Once you open the motor you will how simple it is. I hope this helps
@@matthew5364 no worries, the entire process is super easy I did it a few weeks ago. the glove box can be a bit tricky to put back in the clips for the screw kept falling out for me, once I got passed that smooth sailing good luck
Thank you for posting this video. I have a 2008 Jetta 2.0T and was having this issue for quite some times. My mechanic thought it was the blower motor, but he wasn't sure! He said I should just live with the problem since the car already 9 years old. I then went to the web to research for info and lucky your video save the day. I ordered the part on eBay ($19) and took me just over an hour to do the job. Thanks again👌
Thank you so much for this video ! I don't have a vast knowledge of repairing cars, but after watching this, I found the part in a junkyard in a car that already had the glove box removed. I paid $12 for it, and it took me about 40 min to put it in, and have everything back in place !
Thanks for posting this vid. Mine just took a dump and it took all of 30 minutes after I watched your video. Great job and thanks again! I do have to say you made sliding out the glove box look simpler than it is. Yours just slipped out toward the passenger side and mine was a real treat.
Thank you for the video! My car was so fogged up i could safely drive it. Dealership said the motor wasn't the issue and maybe I should just drive with my windows down in sub zero temperatures. Watched your video, 20 minutes later fog free. Thank you again.
Thanks for this video, Ryan! I had this problem with my 2008 Jetta 2.5. The VW place near my house, which does a wonderful job btw, wanted $280 to fix it ($240 was just the part). That place is great, but my jaw about hit the floor when they told me how much it was to replace a little servo motor. So I told them thanks for confirming my suspicion, but I'll just get the part online and do it myself. Sure enough the "genuine" VW part is like $250+ online. So I picked up a generic part that does the same thing for about $20 off eBay, fired up your video, and 15 minutes later the thing works like a charm!
Thanks for this! It was a huge help replacing mine and I really appreciate the time you've taken to clearly document the process. It certainly saved me a bunch if head scratching and potentially breaking things or remove stuff that was unnecessary.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. This is one of those things that is "easy if you know how" and impossible otherwise. It's especially helpful to see how to remove "snap fit" items. Cheers.
Thank you for making this video! One hour later I had everything working and reassembled. I ended up carefully opening the motor assembly and finding the first worm gear was slipping (it made the same noise as in your video). The gear teeth all looked intact with no damage or missing material. Compressing the casing from outside seemed to cure things, so I shaved about 1/64" down in the plastic radius that receives the motor axle/bearing with a chisel tip. To compensate for this I added a thin, single ~3/4" x ~1/2" slice cut from hard plastic packaging behind the motor housing to help spring down on the motor's front end. Also, I moved some existing grease around to be sure everything was lubricated. It works 100% now, and hopefully this will last another 7 years.
great video - i replaced mine today. We had a break in the winter weather, so i bought my motor from the VW dealer, the new P/N is 5Q0-907-511-H, this did not come with the large plastic gear, but it was easy enough to transfer from the broken motor. i would add the step about cycling the vent switch before installing the motor, as it resets the position prior to meshing the gears, but otherwise, an excellent video - you never know where all those screws are hiding.
Yes! ive knew it was something like this. I was scared to bring it somewhere to have them rip it all apart and charge me a fortune. You sir are a life saver!
Thanks a lot,,,, you saved me a lot money.. I got a quote from the VW dealer, they said $350 labor and part, I got the part from ebay for $18,, and I followed your instruction... this fix cost me
Great video, very easy to follow. I opened the motor apart, found the problem was the gear on the motor was not sitting properly with the gear at the bottom. I put 3 layers of duck tape on top of the motor to push it down and put it back together. Problem fixed. Saved me $138.00 on motor and few bucks if I took it to a mechanic. Thanks.
Ariel, if the duct tape doesn't last, I found a vendor selling the motor on Ebay for $30. Look for part number 1KD907511B (same thing as the more expensive 1KD907511C).
I was about to make my own DIY video on this, but I think I'll save myself some trouble because you made this one so well! I really appreciate the numbered labels that you put over the video to point out the screws. Ingenious!
Also, does anyone know where to find one cheaper than $100? I think I'm going to just unplug it and leave it alone just to save some money. It doesn't seem too important of a replacement to me. (2006 GTI 2.0 FSI, btw)

Thanks for the easy to follow procedure. My flap was stuck open in recirculation mode, which was causing major problems with fogging and icing inside my car this winter, like I've never seen before. I had to scrape the windows on the inside most days and sometimes the ice build-up was so bad, I couldn't open the windows or sunroof. Looks like the motor wiring was either loose or the motor itself was starting to go, since at first the flap didn't move. When I moved the wires a little, the flap then closed. However, after testing the recirc button another couple of times, it would stick a little and the motor made a buzzing sound. I ended up putting the flap in normal mode (ie: closed) and then disconnected the wiring so it'll stay in that position. I'll order a new motor and change it in the spring time. Thanks again.
Thanks for the video. this is still helping people years later. I have had two Mark V VWs personally and they both needed this procedure to get rid of the annoying noise and restore functionality. Great video. Tought this would solve my problem but I am still not certain. My car AC blows warm air from the driver's vent and cold air from the passanger vent. It only works when reciculating. Can anyone help me, please?
great video helped me figure out what was wrong with my flaps. turns out for me it was the first little motor that was not turning rather than the one you point to in the video. any idea what that part is called ?
Thanks a lot, the video's fantastic help!!! My car's a Skoda Octavia (based on the VW Golf platform just like your Jetta) and yours was the only video I've found to get to the motor. My motor stopped working altogether but once I got to it and pried open the housing it started working again with the same exact buzzing. Im wondering now if I'm to replace it or just live with the buzz!
Where would the vent selector motor be located? I have a problem with not being able to select the feet option. It only blows onto torso and windshield.
Hello.I MK5 Jetta TDI, and I have a problem in climate. Do not want to stay out heat, just put cold air outside more. No matter what temperature I set them all at the same intensity blow cold air. Sometimes he comes, but sometimes it sounds like it would clog and do not let a flap blowing air. The tester gives me the following error "00 716 - Air recirculation Flap Positioning Motor (V113)" He would blame because I put air outside the cabin? Not the best English, I hope you understand what I said. Thanks and look counsel.
I have no heat on the passenger side, could this be causing it? it's a 2010 Tiguan without dual climate zone. I read that it could be the heater core but that doesn't make sense to me bc I have good heat on driver side. any help?
Could this part have any issue to cause the AC to not blow cold air? I starting hearing this noise. Wasn't only for a few seconds like you described. Today the noise is gone and when I have the AC button on, my compressor will not come on. I also had a small leak I believe in one of my AC lines. Maybe I lost too much refrigerant the compressor won't kick on.
at moment when the windscreen is defrosted the motor does not redirect the air. it is the same engine or another. If it is another, what is its code and where is it located? thanks
Awesome! Thank you for posting. I lived with the buzzing for a few weeks before figuring out what it was and waiting for the replacement to come in. In the meantime, my battery has been drained completely...do you think these are related??

Hello.I MK5 Jetta TDI, and I have a problem in climate. Do not want to stay out heat, just put cold air outside more. No matter what temperature I set them all at the same intensity blow cold air. Sometimes he comes, but sometimes it sounds like it would clog and do not let a flap blowing air. The tester gives me the following error "00 716 - Air recirculation Flap Positioning Motor (V113)" He would blame because I put air outside the cabin? Not the best English, I hope you understand what I said. Thanks and look counsel.
Thanks Ryan. I have a 2008 Jetta and that noise has been bothering us for over a year. What year was the Jetta you made the repair on?
I’m wondering if I could just leave that flap up which would leave it in constant recirculation mode not sure if this would cause any problems
Same problem on my Passat but can’t seem to find the part anywhere
The flaps motor was situated at the same place in an mk6 jetta?
If it is another, what is its code and where is it located? thanks
My floor vents are only working due to blend door motor? Does this process work with a 15 passat?
Awesome! Thank you for posting. I lived with the buzzing for a few weeks before figuring out what it was and waiting for the replacement to come in. In the meantime, my battery has been drained completely...do you think these are related??
Is there a flap motor on the driver side? How do we change that one?
Is this fix for hot or cold air? I have hot air from driver side & cold air from passenger side.
What year is this model?? Will these instructions work with a 2007? Great video btw!!
