      Same! I was in a cast for 4 weeks and am in a walking boot for 4 more. They told me I can start putting partial pressure after 2 weeks I’m the boot but not instruction on how to do that. Especially being 35 weeks pregnant, idk how to distribute my weight!

    • @sarahgilbert8036

      Same here. 2 weeks partial cast and crutches with no instructions on how to use those, then "given" an air boot for 5 weeks with no instructiond either. Now, still with the boot, told "partial" weight bearing, see you in 6 weeks.
      No istructions, no indication of what type of pain may be normal due to inactivity for 7 weeks, just "next!"

      Same… And in a voicemail my doctors office told me to increase the weight bearing each week by 25% but gave zero instruction about what that even means… explained nothing about using the walking boot, what to expect or what to do to deal with discomfort. I got my boot a week ago, tried it once but it was painful so I haven’t used it since. I could only find one decent comprehensive video but still doesn’t address the what if‘s. 😒

      @@loveshine7819 yeah, I got a check-up 5 weeks into wearing the aircast boot - no one had said I should wear a sock inside that thing. I now have a scar from a blister larger than the ops scars! Then, same as you, "start light weight bearing" with no instructions.
      Last check-up 2 weeks ago was "wean yourself off the boot, see you in 5 months".
      I went home & put the boot in a closet! One week on two crutches, one now on just one crutch. No instructions, but I think I'll go buy a cane, for uneven ground and snow/ice!

      @@loveshine7819 25% weight bearing means if you are 190, you can put up to 48-50 lbs through that leg. Put that leg on a scale and press down no more than 50#. That's how much weight to put through that leg. Don't advance weight until you can do this step pain free even if the Dr says increase by 25% each week. I'm a Physical Therapist Assistant and this is how we train people. In this video here, he is describing touch toe weight bearing (TTWB)/ foot flat weight bearing (FFWB), not 25%.

    I'm a PTA, have been for 22 years and this is not how I was taught. TTWB/FFWB is what you describe in this video. What I say is "Act like there's an egg under the ball of your foot. Don't break it." 25%WB means you can put down 25% of your weight. If you are 190#, you put your affected leg on a scale and press down no more than 48-50#.

    • @damondavros3712
      @damondavros3712 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Unfortunately, Chris, PWB with % is a bit nebulous and "grey" when it comes to educating a patient unless of course a weighing scale, biofeedback device or pressure plate is used for precision. Regardless, it's typically not necessary to provide specifics to the patient other than general guidelines for more than Touch down/toe touch but less than bilateral stance which is 50% without BUE support with DME. I personally despise PWB precautions as it is difficult to educate and hard to determine consistency of adherence. This video would make easy enough to get the patient through until WBAT is allowed by the ortho team, in my professional opinion.

    I do not recommend this to anyone, but I went about all this the wrong way. I broke my ankle in three places. This happened on Friday 13 of August, 2021. I was in no pain while on the floor. I even tried to put my ankle back in place. It worked until I tried to move it. I called my mom and told her about things. She told me to hang up and call an ambulance. I ended up having surgery to put my ankle back together. My ankle was put back together with screws and a metal plate.
    In short, I was walking some with my cast about 2 weeks after it was put on. I am bad to break the rules that doctors give me. I don't brag about it to the doctor. I was getting around pretty well. Now the cast is off and I am in a boot. I can't figure out how to get it strapped on correctly. Anyway, I'm set for weight bearing as tolerable. Since I got home I have walked everywhere without assistance. No pain at all.
    I came here looking for how to strap the thing on. I lost count on how many straps there are. I used to laugh about the things of Friday 13.

    • @GarudaDrgn00
      @GarudaDrgn00 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Pull all straps out first and slide foot in and as far back as possible while strapping in from the toes and go up one strap at a time. That's what works for me at least. 🍺

    After a month in a walking boot, Dr told me he want to see me in my shoe, out of the walking boot... Start walking again. Made me stand on my injury leg while my good leg was lifted up. Kinda crazy felt like my ankle was about to break again... Not even 25% weight bearing... So I requested physical therapy to help with the process.

      @@hamzakhalid335 I dislocated and broke my ankle and fibia and tibia. It's called a trimalleolar break. The worst kind of break. I slipped on wet ground while jogging. It was that simple. I had a 3 hour surgery to correct it and had two rods put in and about 14 screws. After 10 days I was given a air boot and crutches. I was pretty much immobile for 10 weeks. I started weight bearing as soon as I got the air boot but only for very limited times building up slowly wit the use of crutches. When I got the airboot off about 12 weeks later I used just one crutch. It was really difficult and I walked very slowly. About 6 months after surgery I started to walk without the crutch but limped and couldn't go up steps etc. It was a very slow process to recovery and for me, I had a lot of discomfort and swelling until 12 months. It is now 14 months since my accident and I can do almost everything as before but I don't take risks so no more jogging. I still get stiffness in the morning when I get up but it soon goes once I start walking. What about you?

I find it very scary anyways to put a lot of weight, am recovering from a tibia plateau fracture and on top of that broke the outside bone of my foot on that same leg, so l was told it's going to be a long revalidation period. Small steps literally, but we are going forward, to all in this process of learning to walk again, lots of patience and perseverance, we can do it 👊🏽💗🫶🏼

    I broke my ankle on the springboard in gym class back in grade 7ish. About 50 years ago. It was a bad break but seems like I rocketed through the casts, walking cast etc. One day I just went out to the tool shed and cut the thing off myself and was back running in gym class. No physiology or anything. On June 6th I had ankle fusion surgery. That was 6 weeks ago and I'm getting ready to start bearing weight. Totally a different story now that I'm older and much heavier. This physio is going to be long and torturous. I'm actually a little worried.
